Rumor concerning Phil Holmes

And Steve, I can list a few cuts I know he had a hand in:
1) Pirates didn't get a lot of stuff that was originally planned
2)Jungle Cruise's rehab last year was supposed to be a LOT bigger originally.

Again, it's a case of we don't know all the info. If he (and that's an if) was involved in reducing the refurbs, we don't know for what reason. Maybe the budget for deeper refurbs would have been taken from other areas? Meaning Wishes going to 2 days per week for example, or shows being cut. Do you really think that Phil is working against the good of the MK? I really don't buy it.

There is no way 1 individual is personally responsible for any of this... do you think Jim MacPhee wanted to open SSE when it wasn't done? Do you think he personally believes that JIIw/F is the best they can do? Probably not, but some of these and other decisions are made by teams who study and do research. The input of the VP alone is not enough to sway an entire company to do anything really big, expensive or different.
Of course not.

But then again look at what Jim McPhee DID do.

And again, this goes back to the whole "pawn for TDO" argument. I agree with you all there. But perhaps he could have been more vocal? I don;t know.
It's not that simple. Leadership is not black and white, nor is responsibility for good or bad decisions.

Because we don't know all of the information he has access to (I would guess we have a very small fraction) we don't know how one decision affects another.

Say, hypothetically, Space Mountain's refurb budget got slashed from 10 million to 1 million (just numbers for ease of math). That is all information we are supplied on this board, because we don't know that all the HVACs are pushing 30 years old and need to be replaced in MK, because the folks that work in that "department" don't post here.

To us it looks like Holmes is a ogre who only cares about money and making babies cry, in reality there was a whole other issue that we are not aware of.
Right...I guess we give him the benefit of the doubt then? On some points I do, on some I don't.

Agreed and agreed.

I actually don't mind MILF.:)lookaroun) It's a well put together show but in the wrong part of the park. Pixar place would be a amazing home to it.

I agree, good show, bad location. I guess I should have added that he may have been against it going in TL also. We will probably never know for sure.

Nor do I. Not at all. It's not like the man is evil and plotting ways to kill Disney.

I'm just suggesting that me makes it very easy to see MK's age. That's all.

When I was training to become a CM, the "Keys to the Kingdom" were beat mercilessly over my head, and the #1, super important, all-ruling key is "Show trumps Efficiency".

Outstanding...but you do see the difference in what the board says and want it wants to see in their pockets...right??

It isn't right, but it is reality.

I've been told the quote time after time when it comes to the Pirates rehab though, Steve. When deciding on whether or not to ok the addition of the new outdoor scene at the end, Phil responded, "[The guests] will like it no matter what. We don't need a new scene."

Sorry, but that just screams wrong in my eyes. While I didn't believe it when I first heard it, enough people from engineering have echoed the quote, and I trust them.

But you forget the most important factor...

Top U.S. theme parks *

2007

1 1 Magic Kingdom Fla. Disney 17.06million increase 2.5%
See that? As long as that stays in the position it has been, to the company as a whole MK is very much a success.

I don't know.
That's it in a nutshell. None of us really do. Even the front line cast members who post here.

I know it's my usual rant here, but our job as consumers and fans is to use the appropriate channels in the company to express specific dissatisfaction with the product.

If our demands are not being met, whether from the company not listing to its consumers, or the consumer's demands being to high, then our money should be taken elsewhere until the product returns to an exceptable quality level.

It isn't right, but it is reality.

Sorry, but like The Joker, I'm a man of my word. If I preach something to people who are supposed to listen to me, you better believe I'm going to follow through with it on my end.

And it's not like I'm the only cast member that feels this way. It's sad really how much many of us care about MK, and literally have to watch as it is neglected right in front of our eyes.

Who is to say though that the one person who told you and you did not believe it in the beginning is the one who told one engineer, who told another, who told another and now that is just what everyone is saying and believing now?

No one has concrete proof about who said or did what except for the people involved and I do not think they are going to come here and tell us.

It is all coming from what someone heard.

I was told by a person who was told by a person who was in the meeting when it was said.

Third hand information for sure, but it wasn't like it was passed through a very long grape vine.

Then what are you doing about it? There has to be a chain of command for complaints.

It was my understanding when I worked there that if there was a maintainance issue that you should notify your manager and they were required to send the complaint up. Is this no longer the case? Or are cast members not following up on issues they raise?

So...is that a "yes" or a "no" that you understand the reality.;) Again, it may not be right...but it is going on. When you get on the board, you can change it. Or you can change the board's mind by not giving Disney another cent of your money.

Since I am satisfied that I am getting a good value on my entertainment dollar at MK, I will continue to go.

Do you not see what I am getting at though?..Nothing against you at all becasue I know you know a hell of a lot more regarding this then I do..but it starts with one person and then someone adds something and so on and so on...

No one really knows the truth except for who was directly involved.

I already adressed that a few posts back.

Exactly. I'm done with this subject...I think we are ALL beating a dead horse. Holmes was not fired. Things continue as usual.

Until he IS fired, or they DO change the management at WDW/MK/TDO this is all pointless conjecture.

Sorry, but like The Joker, I'm a man of my word. If I preach something to people who are supposed to listen to me, you better believe I'm going to follow through with it on my end.

It's true...But there's nothing we can do, but talk.

Don't you get it, Sirgoofy? We're not going to believe you, because we don't want to believe you! Like, what if the people in the meeting when Phil said that....maybe they misheard him! Maybe their hearing-aids malfunctioned making it sound like Phil doesn't care about top-notch quality. And while we're at it, there's nothing wrong with MK, either. Lots of people still visit. And Disney's not firing people. It's all an Imagineering Pepper's Ghost fiber-optic illusion. Mmmmmk?

I get what you are saying, maggiegrace. I just have an extreme amount of trust in the person who told me it, they haven't lied to me about a Disney issue yet.

It was my understanding when I worked there that if there was a maintainance issue that you should notify your manager and they were required to send the complaint up. Is this no longer the case? Or are cast members not following up on issues they raise?

Unfortunately most complaints fall on deaf ears. I've complained about the same things at the Jungle time after time with no luck.

I understand that I'm probably coming of as some spoiled brat, but I just have so much passion for my job, that I hate to see the place that I work in the condition it currently is in.

I don't mean to offend people or anything...it's just incredibly frustrating.
