As part of my AP Portfolio, I made concept art for Fire Mountain. It must've been good timing, because it was finished before January
So the attractaion itself would be placed on the Seven Seas Lagoon just outside the park. The reason for this is so guests staying at the Polynesian Village Resort can see the volcano erupt for every cycle. The Mountain would blend in with the resort to create the Polynesian atmosphere and experience.
So how will guests walk to the mountain? There would be a long pathway built to transition mainland jungle with the Polynesian area of Adventureland. This path would be conveniently located between Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise.
The concept for the Mountain is this: it would start off as a sit-down, Matterhorn roller coaster style experience. The exploration cars would climb up a short lift hill, then go through short helixes and drops, until it enters the Mountain.....
All of a sudden, the ground starts vibrating; you feel the sensation of an earthquake.... entire chunks of the Mountain will start to fall down, splashing into the hot lava below. While the Earth is shaking, your car starts to transform into an inverted, flying coaster vehicle. Then, the volcano erupts, you and your friendly tourists are sent launching above the volcano, amid fog/mist effects, as well as lava (boiling water with food coloring and smoky scents). The cars goes through a couple of inversions, twisty pieces of track that go out of control...
In the heart of the Mountain, lies an ancient evil; an evil that cannot be compromised with, there are no other explorers available to save you now...
As the riders face a brief encounter with the ancient evil, their luck is granted when the vehicle starts falling, due to an unknown feature of the trains, they come built in with an "emergency mode", to escort the adventurers in case of an emergency. The vehicle starts transforming again, back into sit-down mode, and the riders are sent to a large drop out the volcano, ending with a small splash of cool lava....
The idea for a transforming Ride system and the desire to create a new version of the Fire Mountain attraction led me to create this concept art. This would be one massive, E++ ticket, and definitely not for the faint of heart......
