Rude CM's

seeing as I started the thread i'll tell of my experience.

Day one of our trip ws to MK, and first stop was the emporium to check out the merchandise, got the "por favor...." T shirt.

Shop was empty so when myself and the Mrs went to pay the CM (Dora A) was very chatty, then asked were we on our own, to which we said yes, then she really kicked off!

Asked why we'd no kids? said we could adopt if the wife had troubles, or could get a surrogate mother who'd be willing for the right money!

I was livid and was about to tell her to F**k off, she gave us back our change and wished us a magical day.

So we promptly reported her, probably nothing will be done about it, but she's lucky I never started on her

OK, not a good experience, but it just doesn't sound to me like she was being rude - just kinda stupid. Big difference.

[/list]Sorry for all the stupid comments.
I don't understand why people have to deliberately say anything along those lines. Why would you want to harass a person working a sales cart?

BTW, I have learned this: Canadians do not eat Canadian bacon.

Hang in there, eh.

:)

no apologies necessary...most of the comments/stereotypes I find quite funny because after all Canadians are known for their sense of humour (another stereotype there but I choose to believe that one)

and...pssst...don't tell anyone but I LOVE Canadian bacon (especially on pizza) :lookaroun:zipit:

My way of answering the 3 O Clock parade question is trying to say what time the parade steps off and where and approximately what time it will reach the area where we're standing.

As a former CM with an 18 month contract I have had my fair share of experiences - both good and bad (mostly good) - with guests and out of all the bad experiences I was rude once...

So you want to know what makes a CM snap...there ya go

Oh my goodness, that is just horrible! I can not believe they said that to you!

That was one heck of an article to explain that one should be kind in regards to answering a stupid question because the guest is so excited and it is such a magical event. People always leave their brains at home on vacation, sadly but no one should tell off a guest unless they deserve it. Simply answering 3:00 though should be apprpriate I think.

I think you may have missed the point though. "What time does the 3:00 parade start?" is a big part of Disney's guest service training program. They use it to illustrate the fact that a question which may appear "stupid" on the surface, might in fact be a legitimate question. In the case of the "3:00 parade" question, "3:00" is not necessarily the correct answer. It all depends on where you are on the parade route. That was the point of the story.

I agree with some of the earlier post. I have had some who have not been as "magical," but I have never had anyone that was "rude." Plus think of all the other "magical" things all the other cast members do. Do not let a scant few ruin what is the greatest vacation ever. :)

That's what bothers me about the question, maybe it isn't "stupid" but it is "annoying". It starts at 3:00. Within about a 15 minute time-frame of that you will see the parade. Your time schedule is not so critical that you HAVE to know the exact moment the parade will pass by the spot you are standing on.

Let me preface the "rude" story by telling you that I worked at the Woodcart in the Canadian Pavilion and as you can see by my signature ...

Sorry to hear that, it was painful just to read. I think there is a pretty good segment of people that wherever they travel act like complete idiots. I used to work as a lifeguard at a Holiday Inn near Philly and people thought that because they were paying 100 bucks a night to stay someplace, that gave them the right to act like the King and Queen of England, and treat eveyone like a servant.
I think it must be tougher in the WD becaue people know the rules that CM's have to work with...keep smiling, be happy, don't let them see you crack. It's becaue of this that I sometimes prefer the scene at Universal...there if someone is being nice to you, it's probably genuine and not forced.
I really wished your Manager had just thrown out that complaint...thats a Disney policy joke.

And gravy on french fries? ;)

And a double-double with a box of Timbits? :D

My gosh, without Canada where would I get my coffee every morning?

Seriously, though, living in Buffalo, I suppose I interact with our neighbors to the north more than most, since I take the quick drive up to Toronto a lot for sporting events and concerts, among other things (I also have family up in Toronto/Etobicoke). I cannot imagine how people have such odd thoughts about Canada - it's such a great place (I've also traveled to Montreal and Quebec city...never out west though).

I cannot believe the ignorance those people demonstrated...I would have done the same thing as you. That is in no way a reflection of your abilities as a CM - you were a human being receiving treatment that was appalling and you reacted as many would.

My favorite is when people ask me how they are supposed to drink their fountain drinks without straws. Imagine that. A cup is quite revolutionary. But people don't like CM's telling them what to do, and they confuse rudeness for a CM simply doing their job. And then people exaggerate the story to Guest Relations in a hope to get free stuff out of it. Just because you're paying 71 dollars to get in, doesn't give a guest the right to break the rules and then flip out when a CM tells them that they can't.

While working Crowd Control on July 4th, I got yelled at by guests because I had to tell them to keep moving when they wanted to stand and watch the fireworks. Those people would probably complain that I was being rude when instead I politely but firmly had to tell them to move. Just because you don't like it, doesn't make it rude and that's what guests confuse.

Ok I'm done with my rant about stupid complaining guests.

Thank You for you stories.

Yes I agree, 99.9% of the time it is guest being rude not the CM.

You all do a great job and sometimes I do not know how you do it. If you want to see a rude CM hire me because I am sure I could not put up with half I want I see CMs putting up with.

I hate this thread even the "Examples" somebody posted several pages ago are way off base. It is not the CMs being rude it is guests.

People have to stop an think, there are rules for safety and comfort of guests, CMs, or in the straw example local wild life. So you spend $300 to get in for the day so did everybody else that follows the rules.

Wow, they put all the ugly people in the Canadian pavilion didn't they

Maybe those Guests weren't actually at Epcot because I've always seen a lot of cute Canadians every time I've been to World Showcase (and that is a lot of times as Epcot is my favorite park)! :)

Plus, no one can criticize or make fun of Canadians as they are just plain awesome! Both times that I worked Illuminations Crowd Control on New Year's Eve, I was placed right near the foot of the steps in Canada. Many good times were had while, to the extent possible on such an evening, talking to the Cast Members working at that pavilion.

I had one experience when I was on college program and someone called me rude, but in my defense he ran across the street through baracades, in the middle of the parade causing all the floats to halt momentarilly. And all I said to him was "sir you cannot do that I understand your family was over here, but you or someone could have been seriously injured or killed", and then after the parade he came up to me and called me rude from my tone, I told him with a softer voice "I was sorry he felt that way, but he could have gotten someone seriously injured"

He was embarrassed and therefore decides that YOU are being rude. So typical of people! I hate when people pull that kind of crap!

I have been to Disney more times then most people, and the last 4 times my girlfriend has come along...(she is now a Disney freak.....lol)

I nor she has ever experienced a Rude CM of any kind. She is deaf and is AMAZED at how far a company will go to make sure everyone no matter who they are or what disability they have has a great and magical time...We always seem to find a CM who knows ASL and then that's when she really lights up...For her there is no other vacation spot anymore. I have tried to suggest others and we have tried a few but the way she gets treated for being deaf, she just wants to be back at WDW. Quick note everyone, just cause she's deaf you don't have to slow down your speech and yell...LOL. But to sum it up.Disney Rocks and so do all CM's and all who have to deal with customers...like the old saying goes, This job would be great if it wasn't for the customers.
