are these locomotives are pretty much all steam? forgive my ignorance...
Yes they are all steam powered - only steam makes the locomotive move and pull the train.

They do have battery boxes on board to power headlights, and a few “modern” electronics that have been installed.

I just figured out that the whistle Roy last used before it left was indeed the original whistle. The sound and the polish kinda fooled me into thinking it was a replica. All they did was replace the whistle bowl at the bottom or whatever the proper term is for that piece.

Let me make this clear, I sincerely do NOT believe Roy's American 5-inch diameter 3-chime whistle is from the Admiral Joe Fowler riverboat, because it's too far-fetched and its total speculations to me.

I started a general steam trains thread in the chit chat thread for those who want to chat about Tweetsie (where Roy was previously restored), Strasburg (where Roy is now being restored) and any others!

so apparently the locomotives didn’t “need” new boilers - according to a mechanic at Strasburg “their water treatment is perfect and the condition of the boiler was also perfect”

Are the new boilers slightly larger? Or was there a strange safety issue Disney was concerned about? Anyone know?

Our tour guide last week said that they are not allowed to talk about any contracts specifically…..how did you get Disney specific info at Strasburg?

Did anyone remember that Roy wore the Lonergan 4 inch 3-chime back in December 2010-April 2011 and December 2012-March 2013, before it became Roger's current whistle in January 2014?
