So updates on Roger:

The cylinder block is completed and has been placed on the partially rebuilt and completed frame. The Firebox also has been completed. I'm sure the boiler is not far behind. If they hustle, there's a chance Roger could be back for the 50th.

Also I saw a video from 2 days ago of the Lilly Belle backing up across the service road with the yellow coaches. Still think we're a ways off from the WDW RR returning, but great to see a locomotive moving under its own power for the first time since 2018.

They were still running on their own power up til Covid.....we did a Disney's The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains Tour in Feb 2019 and although we could not go around loop it came to Station and we backed up, did tour and then went forward back to station. I assume they were still doing this until Mar 2020....wonder how long it will still be before the tracks are open....they were all being replaced when we were there.......😍.

Did you just mean you yourself seeing one? Think we rode the Roger Broggie then......🧐.

Ah that's right. Yes I should say I haven't seen it since 2018!

I saw recent photos of new tracks in Frontierland, I'll be down next week, can't wait to see if there's any progress from there.

And the new firebox. A small portion of the new boiler can be seen on the right side of the picture on top.

I’m really impressed by how much they’ve gotten accomplished so far. They keep this up, and Roger could be home sooner than expected.

Thanks @Captain Barbossa! I was about to do it myself but got lazy.. thanks for picking up the slack.

I really think there's a chance Roger is back for the 50th. They've made a ton of progress since last summer. I'd imagine they'd need to be wrapped up by the end of July to have it sent back to Disney and finished up in time. If anyone could possibly get it done, it's Strasburg.

They definitely seem to be working fast. I think having overhauled what is practically the exact same locomotive (Walter) right before was a big help going in to overhauling Roger.

Do you think that this could be an instance where COVID has helped Disney? I don't know a huge amount about how Strasburg works but I know they are the best and that the wait list to get work done can be lengthy. With a lot of scenic railways shut down due to the pandemic is it possible that these railways have asked to have work stopped or delayed due to lack of funds. And Strasburg is prioritizing work to keep people working allowing customers like Disney to be bumped up?

Here’s the link to the “shop report” where those photos of the Rodger were taken from. There’s really no benefit for Disney getting the locomotives back early since there is no railroad to run them on. It may benefit Strasburg to clear up the shop space though!

I think you may be right, they're shop was shut down last Spring along with everything else, and then work was slow to come back in. There were only two outside locomotives (with one being a slow long-term project) in the shop last August, so they definitely got to focus more on the Disney locomotives while the other work was slow.
