ROE Test Show

The problem with the Earth globe is the fact that video is only playing on the land of the Earth. And land only makes up a fraction of the Earth's surface. So it's quite hard to see what's going on. The solution? Get a new globe without the Earth's continents on it, so the whole sphere can be devoted to showing what's going on. Then people will be able to see the video better.

My BF keeps saying the same thing, but personally I feel that it would no longer be the earth, it will be a Big Ball.

If they updated the LED Screen technology to the new technology they are using in the events industry this won't be a problem. LED technology has come leaps and bounds in the last 10 years, and at its time the earth barge was state of the art. If they replaced the panels the impact would be massive, they wouldn't really need to change the resolution to HD, from that distance the jump to HD wouldn't really be that big. They just need increase the screen pixel ratio, that will help clear up the picture alot.

If anybody is able to get to Epcot to see this, please go, and please try to get some video of this! Sorry to sound so demanding, but I'm just really curious on how they would run the show without the globe.

As far as this refurb goes, yes, the globe DEFINITELY needs it. While it would be nice, unfourtuately a bigger globe is out of the question, unless they widen the canal to backstage. And making the thing one big screen wouldn't be good either. The show is called Reflections of Earth-where would the "Earth" be then?

Also, I know everyone else keeps complaining that they can't make anything out on the globe, but I've been able to see most of the images, without zooming in with a camera. Sure you can't see everything, but I don't think it's as bad as some people make it sound.

EDIT: It looks like we have volunteers! Please give the rest of us a report as soon as you can!

Caught me out there! I almost thought we were looking at the icon of "the Competition."

A big-screened globe could maybe display an image of the Earth before morphing into the montage. Would that be compromise enough? ;)

 Between Ports of Entry and Disney Traders stores if possible

Top dead center is a tall order! I will see what I can do. What time does the courtyard there start filling up? I am still at work :( and need to get home for the camera, but will try to make it.

I'll try to make it tonight and take some footage as well (I usually watch from Germany, Norway, or Japan so I can get a different vantage point). Though it's supposed to be in the 30's tonight with winds gusting up to 20 mph, so you guys owe me. :)

Has this been confirmed for sure, because I don't feel like dragging myself over there in this weather based upon on unsubstantiated rumor.

Agreed! Is anyone on site that can confirm the canoe with the large ball is tied up next to AGT? If it is not by now I suspect they are not using that element.

Looks like some people here agree that the globe is kind of dull. Last time I saw it, the colors weren't very vibrant. Even before that, I always though the globe was kind of boring, I mean, staring at a small spinning globe with random pictures from around the world isn't all that exciting to me.

What about projecting videos on Spaceship Earth? I've seen pictures of SE where they project images on it before. What about more lasers? That would be more interesting than staring at another video for 5 minutes.

I'm heading over in a half hour or so to check it out - taking my video camera along too. Hopefully the cold weather means fewer people will stay to watch - that usually seems to be the case in these situations.

looks like show is different

A cast member at the prime viewing location between the gift shops said the show would run tonight w/o the globe, and I don't see it across the lake. When asked if the extra pyro would be used she looked at me funny and said it would be the regular show - the globe. If anybody is here tonight I am the guy with the vid cam on the monopod with the cbs sports jacket. Stop by and say hi if you get a chance. Probably be on the north side in the middle.

I was thinking the same thing.

As far as a bigger globe, why couldn't it be similar to a lotus blossom and fold and unfold to get through the canal. I'm sure that the imagineers could come up with something. After all this IS Disney we're talking about here.

Man alive. I am really interested but had a long day at work. If I left right now I could make it but I'm too tired.

Keep us posted.
