RNRC Re-Theming Rumors...... again

Gitson Shiggles

There was me, that is Mickey, and my three droogs
But the Hollywood Tower Hotel was abandoned in 1939...lol

There may be a photo like this with Steven Tyler hanging somewhere in ToT.

Disney doesn't want to pay for third party IP's they don't own anymore. That's the only reason

And they want all the profit from the related merch. And to have the ride promote the IP for streaming.

I'm making my friend watch WiR1 so we can see WiR2 in the theaters this week in preparation for the VOID's WiR VR. I've also made him watch several other Disney movies so he can appreciate the parks better.

That’s not uncommon the promo videos are often quite a bit of fiction as compared to the reality. Look at the Tower of Terror promo spots where guests stood up in an elevator. A lawsuit eventually forced them to stop showing it off property.
They were sued for that? Why? It was so rad

Retheming Tower of Terror is like retheming Big Thunder Mountain, it doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. Also, retheming NEVER works. Retheming goes against the #1 rule of theme parks: making attractions last longer by association with themes, ideas, purpose, and, elaborate artistic set decoration.

Is there even any reason to re-theme Tower Of Terror? It is one of the most immersive and beautifully designed attractions at WDW... it is a truly complete experience...setting up as you walk down Sunset.. the gates and grounds and even the exit, all beautifully done....
It’s not “Disney”.

The upcoming remake will probably raise a lot of money for disney to use the licence. And disney does not want to pay that much.
That assumes there is a renewal some time soon. Despite what some desperately want to believe, California had nothing to do with the licensing deal.

How is the GotG retheme of ToT in DCA doing with the average guest? I mean, I know purists loathe it, but the average guest isn’t a purist. (Are they?)

It depends what they do. For example, what if they kept the ride exactly as it is, just change the preshow and the very end to remove the Twilight Zone references and add in Dr Strange as the narrator instead? But other than those two things, keep the ride exactly the same?

From what I hear, it's very well received and quite popular. But also, the ToT in DCA wasn't at nearly the same level as the DHS one.

If only.

I could see a CARS overlay. Or Incredibles. Not really sure what else. Both of those make sense for the park in a way. Monsters doesn't seem high on their list but there is a new show coming to Disney+ (lol, really?). I could buy Radiator Springs behind Sunset Ranch Market I guess. But probably never gonna happen. So an overlay attraction it is! LOL. Just kidding, I have no clue. Just guessing. CARS sells merch. How much does The Incredibles sell?

at first glance I thought you meant the band The Cars. Heh.

It would be a worse attraction.

In terms of theming, ToT is as close to perfect as you're going to find, from the start of the attraction to the very end. Doing anything to change that would rank among the stupidest decisions that current, or any future, management could make - and they have enough to be getting on with currently, and plenty more at WDW in need of far more urgent attention in the near to long-term future, than to waste time and resources on tarnishing one of the best and most immersive park experiences that Disney has ever created.

Retheming makes attractions not timeless.

which is unfortunate because you really should!
You've got a better mind for theming than the 22 year olds working at WDI right now!!!
Yeah, this. The sad truth is that WDI are no longer creative visionaries (save for a few), much of it is made up by whichever college program kids smooched up to the right people, literally and figuratively.

Any evidence to that?
Nope.

Pandora. SWL. Dozens of international and local projects. Cars Land.

If anyone looks at the past decade of work from WDI and says it's "not creative" is looking with a neat pair of glass eyeballs.

Sure. Not every project is an E-Ticket expansion. But it's always been that way. New hires are put on smaller builds, then moved their way up the chain as they gain experience. How many old additions for DL have been built over and forgotten by time? For WDW?

And yes. You do have to know people to get a job. But that's with every company in this industry. And it's relatively easy to do so to. Organizations like the TEA are an amazing resource to connect new employees with companies - I'm heavily participating right now to help find my first internship.

And that implication that folks slept their way into where they are now is downright disrespectful.
