At least no one can say the theming doesn't look authentic....

lol, score for WDI

:sohappy:

Now that I think about it, if Ft Wilderness and WL gained RV as its main themed pool then I'd push to stay there every time we go up to WDW. Foolish TDO.

I'm a big fan of River country......

I know its a murky lake with like 4 water slides.. not even......but it was still a place to go to escape the disney crowds and get cooled off......

Blizzard Beach and Typhoon lagoon were always crowded and took foreva to get a tube for a ride

I might have heard the rumor on this site.....so sry if this is a repeated thing....

Is it really gone for good....it was closed for the winter I think....

:veryconfu

nope, heard from a reliable source they are just doing a refurb on it and should be open in a month or so :)

It is closed for all of 2002. But it is not proven that it will be closed forever. If you ask you will get a bunch of different responses and opinions. I think that it will open in 2003.

8 years later I guess I can admit that I am not always right :ROFLOL:

That was quite some time ago.

Ironic thing for me is that I am going this week for the first time to Water Country, USA, in Williamsburg, which was said in the beginning to have been inspired by the original developer's trip to River Country at Walt Disney World....

I have never been to either. Always wanted to visiti RC, but never had the chance. Now I will get to experience WC, USA. (And I am sure that the "USA" in its title may also have been linked to Disney theming (like Main Street, USA).)

I am taking a youth group on a mission trip to Saluda, Virginia, and the surrounding area (Deltaville, Urbanna, Wake, etc.) next week to fix houses for less fortunate, as part of a larger group (about 250 teens total). We have a half-day off for something fun, and we are going to experience Water Country that afternoon! I will have to let you all know if it reminds me of anything I have seen about RC....

I got a bit nostalgic tonight thinking about all those years and posts ago, and had to find my first post. I'm such a dork. Has anoyone else gone and found their first post?
Sounds like a good thread for Chit Chat. Re-post your own first post. Nice.

What really got me thinking about this was 8 years ago when I first posted, I had been one of those "voyeurs" for a few years prior. Before I get accused of thread drift, I'll admit it- Now I have a son who's 5 months old (those who don't beleive me- eh)... and I was looking back on my last 10 years. I'm still a Disney nut, still go every 12-16 months, still work in the hobby shop, and am looking at taking over another business... And yet, things seemed simpler back then... RC, "The Wand", we were all looking forward to Beastly Kingdom and the big fire breathing dragon...

Anyways, I just want my son to have the same opportunites that I had in life, and he's going to miss out on so many classic "childhood" moments that have been lost (Horizons, WoM, RC, Skyrides, etc...) that it's going to be harder for him to connect to WDW as a place where a kid can be a kid. I hope that TWDC doesn't lose sight of that, that they indeed need to be mindful of the legacy that they are leaving for the next generation of consumers/guests of their resort products.

Anyways, back to the grind!

I think that they are in a different way. Your son is going to be raised in a different world, where technology and progression are the keys to success. Disney has no choice but to keep up with that and keep their attractions somewhat in line with the way of the world. Dark rides are great, and we will always have them and new ones in some capacity or another (Little Mermaid). However, the bigger attractions are going to be more thrill inducing, more interactive, and more technologically advanced than anything you could have imagined 20 years ago. I think that if your son wasn't seeing the most state of the art things and saw an attraction such as Horizons, he would probably put his head down and not connect to it at all.

Heh...found mine. It's about attraction posters and is extremely boring.

A boring post from Lee? I'm gonna have to go check this out.

In mine, you could tell I was trying to be polite and whatever. I did the "long time reader, first time poster" thing, too.

EDIT TO ADD: Where's your first post? The first one I see from you is June 1st, 2002, regarding Celebration... Here:

I recommend Pop Century to someone as it has cool "big pop culture" things and the largest TVs of all the value resorts (I think).

Hey this is fun. Found my first post from when I was jt03. I was here before that but can't remember my name. Of course if Steve asks I'm not really jt03 because he was banned. :zipit: Just for starting a rumor that Kali was going to be expanded around the base of Everest. :drevil:

I didn't understand that was a slight violation of forum rules. I'm sure CMs still get questions.

My first post perfectly in character...
