RIP The Great Movie Ride

One of my favorites..
I remember we had to walk off the ride once and I asked my mom to take my pic with Mary Poppins. This resulted in a terrible pic of my head and her feet..

Also loved that my stepdaughter at 7 years old, begged us to ride this over and over, even though none of the movies were familiar to her. It assured me she had good taste.

I will miss this and streets of America, hs will never quite be the same.

I can just see how the GMR would be magical to a seven year old girl. All those different worlds they enter, worlds and places that look so much bigger and complete to the young mind!

I too miss SoA and GMR, they were essential to the identity of DHS. The park will not be the same. But I guess that is the idea. Disney is no longer interested in showing you a magical, Disneyfied version of the world about you, cityscapes and movies you know. Disney only wants synergy, it shows you itself.

So sad and true..

I need to find the music! I will miss the FA LA LA LA HOLLYWOOD right in the beginning. I didn't like the change, they took out my Shirley Temple scene :( but I will forever love this ride. Such nostalgia, the golden age of Hollywood :( A time where going to the movies was an event, an escape from the real world. The glitz, the glamour, I will miss you.

I will never forget my first time riding, just staring in awe at the movie scenes. I think my mouth hung open the whole time during Munchkinland.

RIP GREAT MOVIE RIDE. Thanks for the memories.

I was sad when I heard they were closing it and so soon. I feel as if it is the Horizons of DHS as some of implied. It was really the last man standing in that park, and it's all that's left that gives us the feeling as intended when the studios opened. I rode it on a whim last week before the announcement even thought I rarely go to that park, and I am glad I did. I have to assume a name change is coming eventually to the park, since it is more Hodgepodge Studios now or Hollowood Studios. Cheesy, but I can't help but feel that way. Why not give everyone a little more time to enjoy the last ride...especially since there is nothing else there.
There, fixed that for you.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe they said the last day it will run is August 13th of this year.
.....This is just so not cool. (Almost like losing Horizons all over again...)

At least you don't get to see the ride demolished unlike Horizons.

One of the times I recently rode it, I got to sit up front, right next to the guide/gangster. The gangster who took over the ride was a woman. As she began to get ready to steal the forbidden jewel, I told her, "Don't go!" Whether she heard, I'll never know...

It wasn't that long ago that TCM updated the ride, so I surmised then that it would be around a great deal longer. I will have to get to Disney's Hollywood Studios before closing date to say farewell to it. It's nice when I can at least say goodbye. Some attractions close so fast (Maelstrom) you don't get a chance to bid them farewell.

I was thinking of riding the Great Movie Ride last time I was at Disney's HS a few weeks ago, but the line went outside, and people were just standing there in the hot sun. I'll have to psych myself up for that, since I may not get a second chance to ride it before it closes. Make sure I wear a hat and put on sun screen.
I might had been one of the lucky ones to go on this ride when there were no lines at all. This happened twice during my past two visits to WDW.

This is so emotionally painful for me. I have many Great Movie Ride memories too. My favorite scene probably has to be Alien or the mummy scene where the gangster grabs the cursed treasure and the guide returns. I can't remember exactly how many times I've ridden it, but it's been a lot. Out of all of those times, I only experienced the western bank robbery once. I loved that one a whole lot more than the Public Enemy. Absolutely HATE the sponsorship with tcm. The last thing that I want to hear is robert osborne blabber about something out of one of his 7 chins.
I remember my mom had to cover my eyes when we got to the Alien section when I was little when I first went on it back in 2004.

Ever since I was a kid, I was always a fan of the Alien movies. The Alien scene in GMR and the ride X-S Tech, Alien Encounter were so awesome!

It now all stands to be eradicated. Alien Encounter in the MK - even at long last its ride system, Alien Encounter at Disney Quest, the Alien scene from GMR.

Funny how that goes. Elements that were once omnipresent in WDW (Bill Nye, Space Shuttles) can vanish without a trace.
