RIP The Great Movie Ride

I've been making a point of going on it during our last few trips, knowing (from these boards) this was probably coming soon.

It's a shame they make it happen with so little notice - especially since people with summer blackout dates don't have a chance to make a last minute stopover.

Doesn't the silver blackout end August 11? They technically would have 3 days to get there one last time.

I remember actually getting the rare bandit scene once. Was cool. Never got it again. I presume it got decommissioned in the past few years.

I was also at WDW the week that Robin Williams passed. Cried like a baby at "Good Morning Vietnam" in the montage.

Also was really fond of the Alien scene. Never even seen the movie, been meaning to.

It's too bad Disney couldn't have revamped the ride using classic Disney movies. Swiss Family, Herbie, That Darned Cat, Gus, Apple Dumpling Gang, etc all could have been used to freshen up the ride :) But then, this is a girl who loved watching the introduction to Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights :) watching Tinkerbell wave her wand :)

I remember our first visit. One of my children asked what my favorite ride was. I said GMR and then Alien Encounter. I may never go again. (not really i'll go again)

With this record of losing my favorites I will now say Stitch is now my favorite. (maybe it will disappear.)

The montage at the end almost always brought a tear to my eyes. Will the building be knocked down? The building at the end of the street just said Hollywood and its glory years. I will miss this ride, I think it's unnecessary they just needed to update the animatronics and make things work again.

Aw, cheer up. Maybe those AAs will show up in that storage warehouse that Bob Chapek featured during his D23 presentation (the HECK was that about anyway?)

I was sad when I heard they were closing it and so soon. I feel as if it is the Horizons of DHS as some of implied. It was really the last man standing in that park, and it's all that's left that gives us the feeling as intended when the studios opened. I rode it on a whim last week before the announcement even thought I rarely go to that park, and I am glad I did. I have to assume a name change is coming eventually to the park, since it is more Hodgepodge Studios now or Hollowood Studios. Cheesy, but I can't help but feel that way. Why not give everyone a little more time to enjoy the last ride...especially since there is nothing else there.

This ride was always one of my favorites, always wanted to go into film making and this ride was one of my inspirations. I am sad to see it go, but I take comfort in knowing that I have all the movies that were present at home that I can watch anytime. In fact I just re-watched Raiders of the Lost Ark the other day, my favorite movie! So many good memories but I guess it's time to move on.
