Do you have any other Universal videos???? P.S.: please post the cat in the hat, cause it´s a pretty cool ride!!!

pop hmm I think have seen something like that before i wanna say quicktime vr style... I would love to be able to edit my films to have one great ride etc but right now I dont have the time.... But I am going Saturday so I will snag shots for all and more video hehehe

yeah, i know what you mean about time - the stuff i filmed during my last trip in september has sat until just recently when i was finally able to go thru it...

quicktime vr, huh? i know there is a special lens that takes 360 degree panoramic shots with just one picture, so i wonder if they maybe just adapted the lens for a video camera... regardless, it was absolutely amazing! too bad disney doesn't put up unique clips like that, i'm sure if anyone could pull it off they can

i've only seen it once before, it was on the website for the atlantis hotel in the bahamas - but it was a truly amazing affect! haven't been able to find out anything about the software/hardware required, but if i do - and have the means to obtain them - then we'll have some truly amazing videos to share :)

I know how to do it ;)

I learned the "technique" back at SIGgraph last year...but its not an EASY process. It involves a pretty large knoledge of how quicktime VR works..as well as a pro version licence...There is little or no documentation on it, so maybe I'll make it a tutorial for my site (tho I seem to have a problem finishing the 50+ I have started since november..damn im lazy)

*edit*

Duh...I forgot the most important part...you need to have a dome rig (similar to what we use to take HDRI images for 3D), which of course..isnt cheap...you could try to simulate it..but as you can probobly guess...with still pictures..its easy..with video..you are better off not even trying...

well that would be nice to see.... I can now confirm Saturday for sure I will be at the parks. I am going to film Lion King for sure before it closes, and get some nice still shots... I will post them for everyone as soon as I get back on Saturday night which might be late dont know yet.

Anyone ever filmed that show and maybe has some pointers? From the video I saw it looks like it is pretty easy to do no big problems with heads in the way etc... I wanna get that and The Hall of Presidents for sure.... That would make me happy :)

The ride I think I will have the most trouble doing is Alient Encounter. I have thought of a few ways of doing it... The main show part but I dont know how well it would look. I am willing to try though LOL

POP great video's by the way keep it up, and Thanks for sharing your stuff

Me Bored = not good...

but it works to your benefit...

what am I talking about??

Well...after a few hours of converting the clips to a "workable" format, and playing with settings...I was able to get most of the dark spots in Spaceship earths videos to actually look pretty decent.

Ok..but seeing how 1.) I am on dialup and 2.) for me to RECOMPRESS them would make them look realllly raw...i am going to tell you how I did it ;)

This is actually going to be pretty easy for popkid because he has the original sources already..so no converting will be needed...

Load up the clip in the old reliable After FX..and from here..you have 2 options::

The Easy way..or the GOOD way...

The EASY way would be to just go to the dark parts and set keyframs on the brightness/contrast and adjust accordingly throughout the movie...but this doesnt really look THAT good...

Now..the GOOD way..but of course..by far..the most annoying...

Load the movei TWICE into a new composition..convert the top one to a black and white (greyscale) clip...then...adjust the LEVELS once its too dark so you get a more defined white and black value...this takes a while...once you are done..you will prob sit back and say "What the hell good does this do for me?..i want this sucker in COLOR!"...well..remember..only the TOP layer is in B&W...so just change the layer blend mode to say...multiply..or color dodge (you have to eyeball it)..and then change the opacity when its TOO bright...and then push it back up when its dark ;)

Does that make any sence? I hope so...I should of mentioned that a good working knoledge of afterFX would come in handy...

hey now, thanks for the tip on lightening those vids... going to give it a shot - though will cleaner still 'dull' it out when i try and trim the file size?

could you tell me more about that dome rig? i'm intrigued.... do you know of any sites that have these videos? i'm always up for a challenge... i'm sure i can swindle a pro license here at work, but i'm not sure i can convince them about the rig.... anyone got any ideas???? why would we need a dome rig for a video camera for print disney marketing???

and where are everyone elses videos??? if you need some place to store them, send me a PM and i'll hook you up... i want to see what everyone has...

and ps - windows crapped out on me yesterday and i had to reformat my hard-drive,so those new videos are gonna be a little late - hopefully up by the weekend...

that'd be one huge file! best to break it up into 5 minute clips... or we could try and compact the whole thing and see what happens....

A dome rig is basically a big chrome dome with a camera attacked so that it films 360 degrees at once...most companies make their own since getting them pre-made is a rip off...

Also..keep in mind that the companies that take advantage of this technology usually write their own SOFTWARE for it too...My old job had me writing something similar to this to deal with HDRI data..but only for still images..and I can tell you that it was VERY tedious and they couldnt pay me enough to finish it....

Ok..heres a bit of #s for you::

I took the original Spaceship earth video...and spent a LOT of time making it brighter at the right spots...It took me a good 4 hours total (I told you me being bored wasnt GOOD), and it took a good 2 hours to render as well.

Now...As popkid mentioned..normally when you run a clip thru media cleaner, it tends to dull it out a tad...now..keep in mind that I was working from a compressed movie already (this would be easier for pop since he has the original files)...and after a total of 3 test renders..i got it looking pretty decent without too much dullness going on. I think that for pop it wouldnt require that many steps because of the sharpness of his original...but remember..you are looking at another hour or so render time...

LoL..and this must be the week for Formatting...my home system has been randomly rebooting on me during 3D renders and thats a sure sign its time to whipe and clean....Thank god for hard drive partitions..lol. Now if only I can find my 2k disk.....doh!
