Return of the original Tiki Room

Tired old tiki birds

Ive been to both parks in the last 3 years and i have to say, the old original one is pretty boring compared to new management version. Yeah its not classic and nostalgic, but i have always seen at least a handful of people napping or yawing the entire way through the disneyland version. At least the flordia version is loud and fast paced and doesnt give you a chance to snooze.

I dont remember the old journey into imagination but it seems like they just threw a bunch of props together in 2 weeks! that upside down ceiling scene looks like it came from a run down park from the 70s....the scent scene is good too, but the sound, sight ones are almost unbearable more than once! i dont know who this dream finder is but he cant be any worse than the nightmare maker which is figment!

Yes, the new one is loud. Loud an irritating. Try working the Tikis and having to listen to it all day.

The old Journey had Figment and the Dreamfinder, and was a spectacular achievement in my opinion.

You are talking about version 2 of Imag - Journey into YOUR Imaginaton - you know? The original was nothing like this one or the current one.

I'm pretty sure you are thinking of the second incarnation of the ride, Journey into Your Imagination for the cruddy sets, the current version if a little better new colors and a better story, but if you don't know who Dreamfinder is, you have missed out on such a great attraction from the past.

recent reports say that the original Tiki Room will return in 2011 replacing the disgraceful one we have now.:sohappy:

I don't really mind the Tiki Room as it is now.

Tiki Room versions 1 and 2 are one of the least popular attractions at the Magic Kingdom. In the 1960s, a motorized bird was innovative and people were impressed. But in the 1960s, televisions were mostly black and white and had 3 channels!

Shut it all down and imagineer up something else for that space.

Has there been a time where a attraction has gotten refurbed, only to return to original form some years later? I cant think of one off the top of my head....

In addition to Country Bears already mentioned, there was a change in Carousel of Progress from its original main song to "Now is the Best Time" and back to the original "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" which plays currently, correct? Also, while not an attraction per se, the Main Street Electrical Parade made a return appearance on a limited engagement a while back.

Well, if they do go back to the original show in Florida, be prepared for a comeback of the same constant walk-outs and underattendance that led to the original show's departure (and almost a complete departure of the WDW Tiki Room altogether) from Florida. :D :lookaroun  :hammer:
Amen to that - which is why it shouldn't happen.

The Incredibles really came together as a cohesive unit on a Syndrome's tropical island. Recreate that scene in a new attraction there. :king:

Too Pixary for you? Well, Lilo and Stitch was island based.

All Stitched out already?

This is a picky crowd.

Okay, what else would fit with the Magic Kingdom and with the theme of Adventureland and the architecture of that corner? Would it take much to convert the tiki bird tower into a Chinese temple and put a Mulan attraction in there?

Face it, almost anything would be more popular than what's there now!

It was like looking into the face of God and him saying "Your my favorite creation."

Yes, I'm exaggerating and kidding. (But the scary thing is, not by much!)

It makes no sense for Disney to make the same rides for each park. While the parks do have similar rides, there seem to be, at least, some minor differences between all the rides. There would be no reason to go to the other parks if each one was the exact clone of the other.

Clones are more cost effective. You only pay for R & D once, and get multiple attractions out of it. And of course any decision Jay Rasulo makes has to be an intelligent one.

I want to say "thank the heavens," but that'd be like saying these versions are better. Which should then precipitate me to be drawn and quartered by any who have seen the original.

I can tell you, Version 1 was the only version where we would actually double back to ride again....and again....and again. I rode Version 2 once, and never went back, and this version I give a courtesy ride.

Although, it really needs a courtesy flush.

I did like the original Tiki Room very much, but I also like the new one, so I guess I would be happy either way. What is disgraceful is Journey Into Imagination. I had not been to WDW in like 10 years so last year when I rode the "new" version, it was so bad that I nearly cried. They have to do something with that piece of rubbish and I will not ride it again until they do. As for IllumiNations, I was very underwhelmed with what I saw there last year. So if they change it, I will shed no tears. I am sure I am in the minority with that one, but just wanted to put my 2 cents in.
