Trip Report Return of the Noob......Fuzzy Memories part 2? Now Playing.

I know this is really delayed but I finally have my pics uploaded and soon enough this will begin. Just have been so worn out form work and trying to do projects and running to after school stuff not much time to just sit down and relax. Let alone try to compile 2000+ pics and videos. This TR will rely more on pics than video just because my upload speed is so slow.

I did think it was odd that only these 3 were in the MnG but we had fun. With the afternoon setting in we all needed some food. So I used the MDE to find a restaurant and we settled for The Electric Umbrella.

That's right it is the middle of Food and Wine and we are going to The Electric Umbrella. I know some of you are making disgust faces but I knew that with the dinner we had selected an easily accepted lunch was a must.

Day 2 cont:

Found out what made the girls laugh at Goofy. He was admiring their ear hats. I really am watching most of these videos for the first time so I am reliving this trip with you.

With our meals completed we had some time to kill so we wandered southwest toward Imagination.

It is so quiet when it slides by

We found a PhotoPass near Imagination pavilion. This one must really like their job with suggested poses it was a nice change from the usual stand and look good shots.

The next pic I will not post. Even I have my limits and it was just awkward. The PhotoPass asked us after hugging to kiss. It took us both by surprise. Have you ever been asked to kiss in public unprepared and photographed other than a wedding? You can tell in the pic it was an uncomfortable moment. We played along but we are not a PDA couple so it was just weird, for us.

With the Epcot teiring of FP's I chose to get a FP for Frozen and not Soarin'. Kind of an easy choice with the popularity of that ride. I checked MDE and the wait time for Soarin' was super low so I suggested we haul it over there before the line blows up. This was the result of being in the right place right time.
DSC00177 by Uncle Lupe, on Flickr

Better shot. This was total opposite of what we dealt with 7 years ago. I was pumped to be seeing the new film with such a short wait. I notice that they put a covering over the exit line. Maybe someone at Disney read my last TR. :cautious:
DSC00178 by Uncle Lupe, on Flickr

DSC00180 by Uncle Lupe, on Flickr

We all liked it very much. This was another update that I kept almost spoiler free. I knew about some of the cgi used but everything else for me was brand new. I do miss the old Soarin' just because it had such a great score. They use some parts of that in the new film but wish you had the option the choose your experience. Just watching it again on Youtube still gives me chills.

We exit the land pavillion still with time to spare so we walk to and walk on Nemo.

That is a better shot. Spaceship Earth is washed out but I like it overall.

In Turtle Talk Allie gets called upon as "the girl in the pink sea shell wearing the goggles" Crush asks her who she is here with and she says, "My Mom". Leaves dear old dad out of the entire thing like I don't exist but that makes Katie have to answer Crush. It is a fun show and it has been updated with the new character from Finding Dory.

When we leave the Seas (Nemo) pavilion I see that we are going to be rushed for time to hit a ride I was fortunate was back from renovation, Mission Space. We speed walk all the way across Epcot to make our next FP. We really didn't need it but we made it with 10 minutes to spare. You plan these so far in advance you would think I would not be cutting all these so close.

Katie did not want to ride and the kids did not want to do the spinning side. Heather took the kids on the Green side and I went on Orange all alone. I can always use some me time. See ya on Mars!

Now it was time for the last FP and the one we were waiting all day for, Frozen! Hey ya na na na na oh oh ya na hey ya na! You get the idea. I was looking forward to this as much as anybody. This was the first Disney movie I remember seeing with Allison. How many times have you heard those songs? So it's easy to get Frozen Fever but not so much the FP. This was one FP that I keep track of like crazy. Katie wanted to take some pics and I told her it would not work. I had to turn off the flash for her at the last second. So Let it Go. Let it Go! Your pictures will not turn out. They'll be blurry without a doubt.

Day 2 Epcot cont:

Join us as we enter Norway and ride Frozen. We were all excited for this ride but as we rode I noticed that one of the trolls was very blue in the face. As we encounter Elsa something was wrong. She just kinda froze and as we went backward some of the projections and music were not working properly. For me it was a big let down so sometimes ignorance is bliss. You can hear my disgust that was picked up on film. Now that I watch it again if you freeze it at 3:43 you can see a line of code being projected on the arch to the right of Elsa. So is this Frozen in B mode? Please enjoy, this took like 4 hrs to upload and I think the video camera handled the environment very well.

After our ride we we directly to the Anna and Elsa meet and greet. Do not remember the wait time but it was not very long. I 'm thinking in the 25 minute range. I tried to capture some detail while waiting for our Queen. PhotoPass overload.

After our meet and greet we still had a little time to kill before dinner. At least this part of the trip was working out with the FP for Frozen meeting Anna and Elsa then having a princess filled dinner. Where? Akershus of course. We walked a little farther and explored China.

It is a neat exhibit but you need some time to appreciate this maybe without kids.

Now it was time to make our way to dinner. Last time this was covered under the dining plan. This time it would be an out of pocket dinner and I wish it was not. For the price I could have an amazing dinner closer to home. But you are paying for the experience and the memories.

Day 2 Epcot cont:

We have met Belle and she was very welcoming we were invited to dinner. On day two I decided it's time to kick this TR up a notch with some food pics. Much to the chagrin of Katie. I was told "Don't take pics of food. Seriously your taking pictures of food. Are you putting this in the internet?" I didn't take many because most all our meals were quick serve I didn't feel the need to show hamburgers all the time. However, by the end of vacation I was being asked if I got a picture of this or that.

So here is my salad with turkey. Unlike last trip this time I stretched my taste buds and tried smoked salmon, some sort of funky cheese and fish with the skin still attached. I guess I need to work on menu details. I figured might as well figure out what I like on the buffet then pay for it and not like it somewhere else. I was the only one brave enough to try something new.

I've had salmon but not official Norwegian smoked salmon. :hilarious:

Allison joined this princess conga line and paraded around the restaurant. Very unusual for our backward child. She gets that part of her personality from me.
DSC00243 by Uncle Lupe, on Flickr

I do have video of all the interactions so enjoy.

Time to eat. Remembering my mistake last time I did not order fish I wanted something heavier. Mmm braised pork shank
DSC00245 by Uncle Lupe, on Flickr

I thought my meal was nice. Nothing memorable but a good entree. I do not remember what Heather ordered but she was not pleased. I tasted it and it tasted fine to me but I could see where it did have a different flavor then what you would expect. Our waitress accommodated with no hesitation and brought her the pork also.

On this trip I decided I was going to try to immerse myself in the culture of the host nations. I wanted to know how to say our servers name. So Ingabjorge taught me how to pronounce it and it was a fun interaction. Ingabjorge ( Inn gah Bee your g) was a great server. If anybody knows her tell her I said thanks. Noob mistake not stopping at guest services to thank cast members.

Heather gets her new meal and this piece of pork was very fatty. It was a let down and a sore spot for the rest of the trip. I tried to alleviate the situation by explaining the fact that you are paying for princess access and not so much the food. That is not something I should have to try to explain.

What does $12 get you in a fancy drink? About one 1 shot of rum and a few splashes of liqueurs
DSC00246 by Uncle Lupe, on Flickr

Hate to cut this short but we are dealing with a kitchen emergency. Found a water leak and it went unnoticed for a while. Makes fatty pork seem like a good problem compared to this mess.

Sink leak still a mystery....

With me taking pictures of food Allie wants in on the action. To my surprise she did eat this meal even if it was pizza. A very generic off the shelf frozen pizza. Definitely not from Norway.

Our daughter is very picky eater but I guess when you are marched miles around a theme park you get an appetite.
DSC00248 by Uncle Lupe, on Flickr

This was the assorted desserts that they brought to our table.
DSC00249 by Uncle Lupe, on Flickr

I know Ingabjorge explained them but I did not write them down. From what I can remember the top one is like a rice pudding (cottage cheese texture) with a berry drizzle. The middle was a sweet bread with apples and cinnamon. The bottom was more along the lines of a chocolate cheese cake. I remember being plenty left over for me to enjoy and being the gracious guest I did not want to upset out hosts. I tried my best to finish the desserts.

Overall this dinner was a great experience and I enjoyed trying some new things. I did not enjoy the final price of $200 with tip just for us three. Was just a reminder of how much more this trip would have cost without the "free" dining.

As we leave dinner and head back toward the gates I use the no tripod stabilization technique. This was just asking to much of this camera even after trying to adjust he exposure setting.

Notice how I set the scene with the a table taking up the entire foreground.

The rice pudding is called Riskrem (although I'm sure I butchered the spelling). We made it at home last week for our Frozen movie night! IMG_20180408_183658891.jpg

Thank you for the compliment on the videos.

When I start day three it will be evident what that ripping noise was. I did the videos so I could produce a video TR like I did the last time for our personal use. It turned out pretty nice. So I am trying to edit these videos as I use them here so I can string them altogether to have an almost finished video TR. Allison really wanted one and was asking the entire time if I was filming this and to get a shot of that. Some you can see in the next video.

We fixed the faucet leak. It would only leak not when using the faucet but only while running water in a bathroom down the line. So while you are running the washer or taking a bath you are causing a silent disaster under your kitchen sink. It was the weirdest situation I have ever seen.

The character meals are a genius way to make money. Why else would I take a chicken nugget loving girls to a buffet with smoked cheese and fish?

Have to leave for work I'll try to start day three tonight.

WDay 3 Animal Kingdom:

With a full 2 park day two in the books we start to get ready for a steamy day at Animal Kingdom. As is my routine I look to the TV stand where I place my daily essentials. Magic bands, glasses, sun screen, hat etc. That's when I notice my hat was not there. Yesterday was a long Day and maybe Katie moved it or I put it on another table without thinking. I am frantically checking the room when we think to check the pictures. Using the MDE you can see your PhotoPass photos and I can see the I had it looped to belt loop at dinner. I remember keeping it there as I was a little more proper way to enjoy dinner.

As I look at the last photos I did not see it in those shots. I stew for a minute and realize that the ripping noise I heard while adjusting my waist pack was that tell tale sound of Velcro. The same that was used in my one size fits most Reds visor. Oh no! I lost it last night at Epcot. After some quick research I try to call Lost and Found but due to heavy call volume I give up and we head to AK where I'll stop at guest services there.

When we arrive at the park entrance the guest services line is winding out the door. Forget it for now. Let's go have some fun and I'll try to find a new hat.

Join us as we see DeVine in the Oasis and see another park icon for the first time. Director Allison is telling me what to film for our video later. Making that video from our first trip really kept the magic alive these last 6 years. We see that It's Tough to be a Bug has no wait so we fall in and explore around the Tree of Life. Watching this video I see more hurricane damage then I saw in the moment.

When the room goes dark the kids in the theater start screaming. This is such a fun experience but the children can have one of two reactions. Either they laugh and scream or scream and cry. Ours were in the laugh and scream category for sure.

Our First FP of the day was for Dinosaur! I usually would not be worried about making this FP but the wait time were large. So Even though the kids did not want to do this ride we started our trek. After ITTBAB they were weary of a dark ride especially one with Dinos.

We reach the entrance to Dinoland and I am really excited to ride this again. I was such a huge fan of dinosaurs as a kid that this FP is more for me. Just as we get to the bridge I was told to stop. Take a right we are going to go see Pocahontas. My train of thought just got derailed. Now we are in what seems like a short line but it winds down the hill and with the heat she has to take a break very often. It was a long and boring wait in the heat but it was shaded mostly.

Trying my hand at some macro.

Day 3 AK cont:

Join us as we almost make it to Dinoland with our meet and greet detour. I am behind the camera again and I stay behind to film the local wildlife being mischievous. This lady gets scared by a squirrel that hers kids tried to tell her was there.

Did I mention it was an extremely hot day? After waiting what seemed forever for Pocahontas we needed the usual restroom and drink break. I take this opportunity to scoot ahead to gets some video I wanted and to play with my new camera. Ever wondered what was at the very top of Everest besides bird on a stick? I know for sure nothing much at all except an exposed support structure. This is a zoom test from the bridge to Dinoland to the top of Everest about 1200 feet or more on Google earth.

As I try to heard the group to our blast to the past we are stopped again. By what? Another pin trading stop. This was someting that was done more then I could keep track. It was not something I wanted to do but Allie was all about trading and collecting pins. I just had to accept this delay.

We all know we have FP's getting close to expire so we are almost there and I want to take some pics along the way. You can see me falling behind in this one.

At this point I have lost my group. Did they go inside? I try to look around with not luck. I try calling phones with no response and am pressed by the urge to tap that Mickey icon. They must already be inside, right? I tap and go in to an empty FP queue. No family or friends that I can see. So now I start to panic a little. I am in here and they are out there and going to miss the FP window and still not answering their phones. I am in this FP limbo in between check points so I decide to just stay in one spot and wait. Like I have a choice. I take some pics and video to make the most of the situation. Empty line on my side not so much for standby.

The group does contact me and I tell them to hurry inside or your going to miss the FP window. I don't remember but I'm sure this was my fault. As we make our way to the time rover the kids were maybe not prepared for this ride. I just encourage them that nothing can get to them and just to close their eyes if they are scared. I try to explain the McDonald's was a ride sponsor and I had to get this shot.
I don't think the adults believed my story about the chemical formulas.

If you are scared just close your eyes kids. I don't think they saw any of the ride.

I enjoyed it even more with the broken effects fixed from our last visit.

After our Dino encounter we play in the gift shop. Where I happily buy my upset daughter a Dinosaur pin for riding. Something we tried to find after every first ride this trip. But these were not trading pins. They were her special pins.

The shirt and matching sneaks are fantastic!

I can certainly appreciate the last second detours and losing my family! I did enjoy the wildlife and other videos.

You can see in the video how empty the FP line was compared to standby.

With the kids traumatized we back track when we run into another meet and greet. This time it was Donald. I let the girls stand in line while I took up residence on the bench waiting to jump in to film.

This Donald was awesome, very plucky. The first child in line handed him his Mickey pen to sign his autograph book and Donald looked at it and just dropped it in the ground.

When the girls were at the front of the line my break was over. I had to start filming. Allies papaw does a Donald impression and this is one reason why she was so excited to meet him. Donald had no problem teasing the kids.

Day 3 AK cont:

After meeting Donald the group was split on what to do next. Katie and I wanted to ride Everest but the kids and Heather wanted nothing to do with that idea. So I see that Nemo was getting ready to open and it is decided that Heather would take the girls to Nemo and we would ride Everest. I wanted to see Nemo but riding Everest was something that was on our to do list for the last 6 years.

We split up and head north toward the forbidden mountain. When we arrive standby is only a 30 minute wait. #thankspandora It was not even that long of a wait as we breezed through the line only stopping briefly between loads.

O' come on, what is the chance of that happening? Magic band at work. Maybe there was more then one Aaron but it did not matter to me.

As we board we are near the back of the train. Katie is struggling with her purse and I tell her just to put the strap through her leg and she wont lose it. If she had a waist pack that would not be a problem. I just rotate mine so I can secure the lap bar. We miss half of the bottom portion focusing on securing that purse.

Ride was amazing. Not really scary with speed like I thought it would. Just in a constant turn either backwards or forwards. I want to take Allison after seeing the little guy in front of us conquer the mountain. Katie said she enjoyed it but she looks scared in the pic.

The Yeti missed our train. He moved so slow looked like he was standing still. We make it back to base camp and head back to find our Nemo. Well Dory I guess.
