Restaurant Help

Hubby and I are making our June plans. We're stuck on a couple of restaurant choices. Here's a list of where we are definitely eating because they are our favorites. These are all for dinner.

Whispering Canyon Cafe
1900 Park Fare
Captain's Grill
Coral Reef
Boatwrights
Artist Point
Maya Grill
Sci-Fi
Le Cellier
Liberty Tree Tavern

We are there for two weeks so we'll have a lot of time to try some new places. Right now, we have Tutto Italia, Teppan Edo, Turf Club, Cape May, and Yak and Yeti on our list of new places. Which of these have you tried? What do you like? Dislike? Also, what places do I not have listed that you would suggest? Thanks ever so much!

Oh, one more question. We traditionally have one breakfast. 1900 Park Fare is our favorite, but I hear wonderful things about Boma. What do you think? We ate at Boma for dinner in 2007 and thought it was just okay. How is the breakfast?

Although admittedly it is expensive, we love Yak & Yeti...food is always hot and fresh and very tasty. I highly recommend the cream cheese wontons and grilled pineapple for dessert...heaven!!

I definitely recommend Teppan Edo. Great food and alot of fun. Also, Tokyo Dining is wonderful as well. If you get there before Illuminations and ask for a window table, you can watch the show. It's great. :)

Have fun!!

Teppan Edo is nice. Clean simple food. They cook meat and veggies right in front of you. The only issue is if you get a less than experienced chef. We went there 2 weeks ago and we had what appeared to be a new chef and the show was not there and she did not have the food prep timing right. Like I had steak and shrimp. I got the shrimp and then about 3 minutes later I got the steak. The veggies came before everything. The food was still super!!

Turf Club? I would say no. It is not bad, but there is a lot better food in WDW to eat. If you are staying at SSR and want the convienence of eating close to home then do it, but do not go out of your way. It really is not that special, but it does have an outside dining area that could be nice if the weather is good.

Cape May Cafe is really good. Great variety of salads and a wonderful desert bar. Then you walk to Epcot for an after dinner cocktail and watch Illuminations. It doesn't get much better than that!!

Yak and Yetti? Everybody already answered this. Nice, but not really worth it.

Couple of other options:
  • Tusker House has a nice buffet and is reasonably priced. It does have minimum african influence and is typically an American Buffett. It will not equal 1900 Park Fare.
  • Boma is really a great restaurant. If you have tried it and didn't really like it, try again. They have plenty of typical american fare, but try a little of everything and you just might acuire a taste for something new.
  • Biergarten is another great restaurant witha variety of food and entertainment.
Good luck with you final descisions.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. They've been most helpful. I have a few more questions to ask.

1. Does anyone know what specifc dates the Artist Point serves the Copper River Salmon? I know it's from May to June, but I'm afraid if we don't eat at the Artist Point early in our trip, I'll miss it.
2. Those of you that dislike Tutto Italia, did you like l'originale alfredo di roma ristorante?
3. Does anyone have a link to the most up-to-date list of 2009 DDP restaurants?

I believe the dates can vary on the salmon. They can have it on one day the next there is none.

l'originale alfredo was ok. I enjoyed the food, but just as now with Tutto the price is way out of line for what you get in return. I believe that you can go to Olive Garden and get a similar meal for 1/3 the price. I know Tutto is in a theme park and you pay a premium for that, but there are so many other good options in Epcot. If you are dead set on Italian and are near Epcot the try this retuarant in the Swan http://allears.net/menu/men_mul.htm or go to DTD and try Portobello Yacht Club http://allears.net/menu/menu_pyc.htm. Both are better that Tutto IMHO.

I would not expect any changes to the 2009 plan as far as participating restaurants. Here is a link to 08' info http://allears.net/pl/packages08a.htm

It's not so much that we're bent on Italian (although real Italian is my favorite). L'originale alfredo wasn't the best I'd ever had, but it was good. We avoided it for a long time because so many other people (our family included) hated it. When we finally went there, we really enjoyed it only to find out it was closing in the next few months. I didn't want to miss out on Tutto if it was good. However, putting anything in the same sentence as Olive Garden does not sit well for me. I'm thinking we may have to avoid it.

If i was you, I would avoid Yak and Yeti.. disliked it a lot.

Narcoossees is delicious and so is Cape May Cafe, but it used to be a lot better than it is now.

I am campus rep for my school, which happens to be The Culinary Institute of America and for every career fair the recruiter brings a Chef from a restaurant in Disney.. they will all tell you what I am about to tell you.. aside from their restaurant being the best. My favorite restaurant in Disney is Citricos.. the food is absolutely delicious..get the shrimp appetizer.. shrimp, feta, white wine sauce, and pasta.. mmmmmmmmm! :king:. Do not miss flying fish or the chedder soup at Le Cellier.

On your "new" list, we did Yak & Yeti and Cape May on our trip last month. Yak and Yeti was the favorite out of many in our group (including myself) and Cape May was my dad's (probably my 2nd.) That was out of 8 restaurants, if that gives you an idea. We really loved both.

I'm really surprised to read so many people disliked Yak and Yeti...I read quite a few glowing reviews before I booked it. Yes, it is overpriced but what does that matter if you're on the dining plan? The steak and shrimp was fabulous! The cream cheese wonton/pineapple dessert was possibly the best dessert I've had in my life, seriously.

I should also point out that we did Cape May for dinner and not breakfast. A friend did the breakfast there and was not very impressed. It is the dinner buffet with the seafood that we really loved. Lots of choices and again, excellent desserts.

We also did Boma but not for breakfast and for dinner instead. Honestly, I know this is one of the most beloved places on property and I really wanted to love it but my group of 10 was unanimously underwhelmed. A few picky eaters (also a few very adventurous ones) but everyone else just sort of felt it was average. I happened to not be feeling very well on that day, so it likely impacted my thoughts. Because my stomach was bothering me, I was a little wary of trying anything spicy or exotic. But as you mentioned your husband is a picky eater, I would caution you. Not sure if the breakfast is as exotic but it may be something to consider.

I have a couple of Boma breakfast questions.
1. How much is it with the holiday surcharge?
2. Do they charge extra for coffee now? I love the coffee, but I would be hard-pressed to pay $5.99 for a pot of it (like one website said). I don't remember them charging extra for it at dinner in 2007.

Does anyone know if the Mara serves the same coffee as Boma? Really, the coffee and zebra domes are the only reasons I would consider going back to Boma, especially if the holiday surcharge is in effect. I would much rather go to 1900 Park Fare or try Chef Mickey's.

Availability of some of the specials, particularly the Copper River Salmon vary a lot, best suggestion I have is that you call them directly during your visit.

As for Italian....like Wannabebelle, living in the northeast, I have a steady diet of great Italian, and find it hard to step down to Tutto for taste and cost. OK, so with dining plan negating cost, L'Originale wasn't great, but was better IMHO. More flavor and variety. For some reason this restaurant seems to have more sullen wait staff and overall service seems either very rushed or very inattentive. The visual presentation of the restaurant is very nice...but I have to agree that I always seem to feel Olive Garden by the time I leave. Unfortunately, I can't think of a good Italian alternative. There is Tony's and Momma Melrose which aren't great...but I would say as good if not better than Tutto if you need an Italian fix. I just wait to get home for that. :o
