Resort room requsets not accepted

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
I have just been told by the Disney operator that I cant request a building or area in a resort as I have free dinning and such requests would be seen as a reservation change that would result in my loss of free dining. I can only request a block at check in.

Before I go and spout off is this a new thing or have I just had someone whos not having a magical day?

Certainly no where near as helpful as Universal resort.

Since when did Disneys Dining Plan (free or otherwise) dictate which block or room you can stay in ????????

Get back on the phone and speak with another operator

Oh yeah, Pumbas, you got one of those way out in left field CMs. Call back. Make your requests. I love it when the CMs don't know what they're talking about but are totally convinced they do. I argued for 20 minutes with one over a year ago about the existance of the lunch w/and Imagineer at DHS. LOL!

Ok, I need to ask, when you make your reservartion you can request a specific building? We are staying at our DVC resort SSR. I know on our last visit we were in the Paddock ( which was not bad) but if there is a building that is better than this one and I can call reservation and request the specific building that would be great.

My guess is that one of the three following statements is true:

  • The CM mistakenly thought you wanted to change to a different booking category (for example, the CM thought that the requested room would cost more than the room on the reservation).
  • Your request would cause a change in the booking category of the room (for example, if you booked a standard room in a Moderate resort and then "requested" a water view or a king-size bed, both of which are separate room categories and cost more per night than a standard room).
  • The CM just didn't know what he/she was talking about, because a simple request doesn't change a reservation.

Obviously, the first two items are flip-sides of the same coin ... one party or another thought there would be a change in room category or made a request that they didn't realize would cause a change in room category.

I am not sure how it works for DVC (since that is a different "area"), but for regular reservations you can add requests. Requests are not guaranteed, but they do their best to grant them.

Have e-mailed Disney asking for clarification, will see how it turns out.

Im now wondering if as someone has said she thought I wanted to change the standard of room? But to be honest its not what I asked, and as one or two on here can testify, my accent isn't that strong. Besides, I've convinced myself on reflection, she just wanted me off the line. Still its not as though I'm short of time. :dazzle:

just doing ye olde Devil's Advocate thing, but is the free dining promotion more limited in its availability than in prior years? And Pumbas, maybe your request would've resulted in a category/room type not available during the promotion (or fully booked during your scheduled trip)?

I have zero idea if this could be the case, and it's certainly not an explanation proffered by the agent who took your call. Just throwing it out there as a possible possibility.

Or maybe the agent du jour hates Marillion. J'accuse! BTW, did you get Ostara?

The CM may have been having a magical day, but a magically uninformed one.

The simplest explanation with these things is CM incompetence. Most of them know their jobs reasonably well, but there are thousands of stories of people getting very different answers to the exact same question from different CMs.

When you suspect a particular CM is wrong about something, the best approach is to hang up and call back in an hour or two when you'll get someone else.

I'm staying at ASMu for my upcoming trip with the free DP and called this week to request the Jazz building. I was told that they would put the request on but that it's not gtd (which I knew anyway). I think whoever you spoke with didn't clue in to what you were asking.

No I didnt, but Ive just literally been on their website and been listening. Mrs Sak is a fan of Mostly Autumn and I think shed love that, so perhaps a wee treat for her, fed up of her complaining about my heavy *$£^ :).

Trying to ingratiate my self as I'm off in three weeks for a long weekend with some chums to do liver tolerance checks.

As for ressy, yes Its definitely room type specific, it was the only type being offered for UK bookings, so no I wasnt wanting something for nothing, just a certain part of the resort. Dont want to say too much as a certain eldest Sak offspring is desperate to find out what surprises I have lined up so none of them know which resorts we are staying at and she has even started checking this site. :D

It is not a new thing, September 08 went to Disney Animal Kingdom (standard view) tried upgrading to (savannah view) and was told that it would have to be a changed res and I would lose FREE DINING.

That is apples and oranges to what the sak requested. Requesting a building is a simple common thing that has nothing to do with a package or a promotion. I do this with nearly every client reservation I make 90% of which have or will have some sort of promotional discount attached to it. What you asked for was a complete change in room category (ie standard room to a suite) which can effect a package or promotion.

I had the very same thing happen to be about a month ago when I wanted to request a building for my Sept trip. The CM basically told me they could not do that, that I would have to make the request at check-in. I nicely said ok... hung up and called back where I spoke to another CM and they gladly added my request to our reservation. So, I would call back!

Changed my reservation from Port Orleans to the Wilderness Lodge on May 25 for upcoming trip during September free dining. Kept same reservation number and was able to "request" anything I wanted. She said she would word it so I would be more likely to get my request.

That's what I'm guessing as well because I can't think of any other explanation for it.

You can request a specific building at DVC. You've got to weigh up the best option though because the more general you are then the more likely you are to get the location you want. For example you're more likely to get a request for "The Springs/Paddock/etc" than say "building 12".
