Resort Hopping....

Think for yourselfer
Hey everyone, my fiance and I are going to Disney in July for 8 days, and are staying at the Dolphin. I have scheduled in a couple of free days just to relax. I am sure its going to be pretty busy, and definitely very hot. I was just wondering what Resorts are good to just go check out, maybe have a drink at their bars and take in the atmosphere. I know pool hopping is off limits at Disney, a little silly in my opinion, but what about the pool areas and pool bars? We always stay at Old Key West and love the Gurgling Suitcase bar there. Any ideas?

If you are staying on property and you have a car, can you resort hop using your car? or do you have to leave it in a Park, parking lot or at your hotel and use Disney transportation?

Show your parking card from your resort with your room key and tell them that you are visiting the resort or coming over for a drink or dinner. You can part at the resort parking area.

My DH and I enjoy trading pins. One day we visited the Monorail resorts. We park at one (usually Poly) and do the loop. It was somewhere between 10-11am. The stores have pin boards and during this time slot- they had them open for trading. It was fun- we'd shop and trade at Poly (upstairs) then take mororail to GF and CR. We had a relaxing and fun morning! (BTW- my mother-in-law came along and she relaxed at the Poly pool with a book while we shopped.)

Thanks for all the replies, will be trying out more then a few of these ideas.

May be a silly question, but I don't think you measntioned this: Will you have a car? or will you be relying mostly/solely on Disney transportation?

Staying at the Dolphin, you'll have a lot of options within walking distance, which is nice. I'm always up for a night of karaoke at the Swan. Of course, I'm a tremendous nerd, so take that with a grain of salt.

I think all of the monorail resorts, WL and FW will have watercraft for rent if you feel like boating around the Seven Seas Lagoon. Likewise, there are watercraft sfor rent at PO and OKW.

Normally, I'd recommend going to the AKL for dinner at Boma and arriving early to check out the animals in the savannah. However, since your'e going in July, I'd recommend going there for BREAKFAST, and STILL arriving early. The animals will be seeking shade and shelter as the day progresses, and will be more active in the morning. Otherwise, make very late dinner reservations, and see what you can see when the sun goes down.

Also the walk from Port Orleans Riverside to French Quarter (and vice versa) is very nice, and from either of those resorts you could take a leisurely boat ride to Downtown Disney.
