Resort Hopping....

Think for yourselfer
Hey everyone, my fiance and I are going to Disney in July for 8 days, and are staying at the Dolphin. I have scheduled in a couple of free days just to relax. I am sure its going to be pretty busy, and definitely very hot. I was just wondering what Resorts are good to just go check out, maybe have a drink at their bars and take in the atmosphere. I know pool hopping is off limits at Disney, a little silly in my opinion, but what about the pool areas and pool bars? We always stay at Old Key West and love the Gurgling Suitcase bar there. Any ideas?

Heading for the great escape.
Wilderness Lodge is worth a trip around, decent eateries and a relaxed bar, pool bar was pleasant too.

The Polly is the obvious one, cocktail bar and sushi bar/cafe.

If you're in the mood for a "snack" at the YC & BC there is Beaches and Cream Ice Cream shop where you order the Kitchen Sink (bring your appetites). They do have a bar near the Storm a long bay pool, but nothing supper special.

Check out the Boardwalk and Yacht/Beach since they are right next door to you. As stated, the Wilderness Lodge and Polynesian are two other very good choices.

We love to resort hop. Can't help too much with the resort bars, but we love checking out the resorts and eating at their restaurants. Here's our list of some of our favorites-

Grand Floridian- we love it there, especially around Christmas with their gingerbread house

Port Orleans Riverside- haven't tried it, but Boatwright's Dining Hall looks great

Beach Club- Cape May Cafe for dinner and then strolling The Boardwalk, trying to finish The Kitchen Sink from Beaches and Cream

The Boardwalk- Wyland Gallery is very nice and we want to try Big River Grille and Brewing Works

The Contemporary- Chef Mickey's for breakfast

Wilderness Lodge- Whispering Canyon and Artist Point

Animal Kingdom Lodge- around the Holidays, Boma's, viewing the animals

The Polynesian- Kona Cafe, O'hana's, viewing Wishes from the beach

If you go in the evening, you can watch the Electrical Water Pageant from the beach at WL of Poly. You could also watch Wishes from the beach at Poly.

As already stated - the Polynesian Ohana bar is great! My husband & I hung out there for a while drinking frozen drinks, and drinking out of pineapples. The theming is really fun, and if you time it right, you can watch the Wishes fireworks from the beach after you have a few drinks.

My list usually goes like this

Park at Poly or Wedding pavillion walk to GF take monorail to CR then a boat to WL.

AKL is always great for a drink or some food and some pictures of the animals roaming the Savannah. Then off to the car to wonder around and get some drinks at CSR.

Then there is always the Epcot resort area that is a great place to spend a whole day. These resorts include BW, BC, YC, Swan, & Dolphin.

As for places to drink at the Resorts I like Ohana at Poly, Outer Rim or Wave - CR, Trout Pass pool bar WL to watch the Geyser, Victoria Falls - AKL, RIX Lounge - CSR, Bellvue Room - BW amongst many others (Big River, ESPN, Blue Zoo, Kimonos, etc etc.) I'm sure you can find a lounge or club at any of the resorts to fit your needs.

Have Fun!

Folks covered them well above.
Nice quiet bars at GF-Mizner's Lounge, Contemporary- Outer Rim, WL - Territory Lounge, and Crew's Cup next to Yachtsman at Yacht Club are our favorites.

There are some of the best restaurants on property at these hotels as well.

You can do a his and hers spa treatment at GF.

I totally agree, Beaches and Cream is the best! The Polynesian is also a great place to sit, relax and take in the tropical atmosphere.

Hi, I would try AKL go to the back area and you can see the beautiful animals, or sit by the open fire pit in the back (they usually have that on by 6pm or so). I don't drink; but AKL has a nice bar area and also two very nice restaurants BOMA & Jinko I ate at both of them, I would recommend BOMA over Jinko though, (less expensive).. :animwink::wave:
You can also try the Yacht and Beach Club also like everyone else was suggesting. Walk around the Grand Floridian and Poly too, they are both wonderful and just a jump on the Monorail too.

All the deluxe resorts are worth a visit, as everyone stated above. Perhaps if you run out of ideas or Deluxe Resorts to play at, consider attempting a visit to ALL the resorts! It would be a fun trip to enter into - Kind of like trying a drink at all the countries in the WS, but with resorts over a day or two span!

You can go to the campground at Fort Wilderness in the evening. They have a camp fire & sing along with a movie after it. You can get stuff for s'mores there. They have Chip & Dale come out for a little while. Its lots of fun. After the campfire, if my friends & I dont like the movie thats being shown, we either watch Wishes from the beach or take the boat to either the Contemporary or Magic Kingdom for Wishes. (It depends what time we leave the campfire & what time Wishes is at.)

You've gotta check out Bob at the River's Roost at POR!!!! Nobody gets a crowd going like he does!

You took the words right out of my mouth! That guy is awesome. I could watch him every night!

I'll third this. I've been to WDW for more vacations than I can count on my fingers and toes, and never saw him until my last trip. From now on, we'll make plans to see Bob everytime we go. Everyone in the joint had a great time. He even had my husband up and taking part in the show. That was a miracle in itself.

Wife and I have had a drink in every lounge on property.(probably not something I should brag about :ROFLOL:). Our favorite lounge is far and away Victoria Falls Lounge at the AKL. (Killer Atmosphere).
But your gonna be nice and close to Kimonos(Outstanding sushi lounge at the Dolphin) and the BelleVue room(Boardwalk's hidden gem). Both great options!!

Yes, the BelleVue room is great. Really neat atmosphere and a large balcony that overlooks the BoardWalk Commons area, and the Boardwalk itself.
