Believe it or not, not everyone that goes to Disney is getting a 40% discount.

Call Disney reservations and book a trip, you will pay rack rate, UNLESS you know or ask about a discount - the CM WILL NOT offer it unprompted.

you are so correct.. I called the other day to book for December and I started talking and nothing was mentioned about the discount... I am used to booking online.. but I had a few rooms to book and wanted them together.. I stopped and told the CM that I had a code.. he said... Oh ok.. let me add that... good thing I remembered... :sohappy:

In regards to walk ins/or reserving a few days out:

Summer is considered peak season at WDW. Every day this summer, July 4th included, you could walk up to the Akershus Restaurant in Norway for any of the three lunch or three dinner seatings and get in, no problem. Breakfast is difficult, but not impossible. Often times, reservations for a particular Lunch/Dinner seating are 11, 7, 2, 15, etc, for a restaurant that holds about 50-56 reservations per seating. One day, one family was the ONLY family in the restaurant for one of the seatings. That little girl received the royal treatment. The princesses even sat at the table with her for a while. The chefs brought out extra food.

You can walk up to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in Downtown Disney and get in almost immediately without reservations.

Source: I work at these places and see it all the time.

I personally have called 1900 Park Faire at the Grand Floridian 2 days out and received a reservation for 7 PM on a Friday evening to have dinner with the Tremaine/Charming family.

The recession has hit Disney. People are coming, but just not spending money on the luxuries.

Of course this makes total sense. Back when I was near my 180 day mark, the website literally changed overnight to 90 days so when I called to make my adr's I was informed I was now to early. Now my 90 day mark is tomorrow and I find out the news that 180 is coming back! :p Oh Disney.....

So how is this going to work, On October 26th you can book 90 days out, and October 27th you can book 180 days out? Does that mean that the calendar's will be updated with an additional 3 months of park hours?

Lame. I was not a fan before... I am not a fan now. Yes it's fun to plan... but unless park hours are out, it doesn't make sense to have dining reservations available for anything but the most-exclusive experiences. It's ironic that in a time where Disney is on the surface doing everything it can to entice locals and passholders to get them through the tougher times, they're slapping them in the face with a dining policy that makes them less likely to get the restaurants they would prefer for spur-of-the-moment trips. For those who are local-enough to be able to go to the parks/resorts specificially to have dinner at a certain restaurant, this is not a friendly policy in the least.

Did a quick search and didn't see it anywhere so here it is.

From a friend on the inside:

============================

Booking Window Expanding to Previous Level
Big news for our Guests! Previously, the 180+10 was our policy; this policy was changed to 90+10 a little over a half year ago. Back by popular demand to allow our Guests a longer booking window for our restaurants. 180+10 means: all Guests can book a WDW Restaurant as early as 180 days prior to the day they will dine; Guests staying in a WDW resort can book a WDW restaurant 190 (180+10) days prior to the day they will dine.

Effective October 27th.

=============================
Pray for it to be so

What exactly is Disney doing to entice locals and passholders??? (besides the occasional FL Res and AP holder room discounts)

The 3 month AP renewal bonus could be construed as such.

Personally, as a semi local AP holder, I have always felt somewhat ignored in WDW's policies, but I have always understood why. We are a big enough group not to be ignored but we are not big enough to be catered to.

No, you are right. Disney never offers discounts without prompting. That's always been policy.

But they are advertising discounts anywhere and everywhere ... and it's just common sense to ask about discounts when making any travel plans anywhere. If someone calls and can't figure that out, then they deserve whatever price they pay.

Yes. But this isn't a normal time ... and I wouldn't put the Jon-Benet boutique in the same category as full serve dining.

I'd also bet that with FREE dining now happening and basically running until 12/17 (except for Thanksgiving week) that it will be tougher to snag ressies at the more popular locations.

Hope their system can handle the load that night! I'm sure there will be LOTS of people (myself included) booking for 1st half of 2010!!
