And the TRON coaster in Shanghai breaks it's theme in that it has a part that goes outside into daylight. It ruins the experience of being in a TRON world. It also makes you sun-blind. I am a big fan of TRON. I'm the type of fan that the TRON coaster should appeal to, but the way they did it in Shanghai doesn't appeal to me.

Agreed, but that can obviously be easily rectified. If the "dome" were extended and make less translucent, it would feel much more "indoors", or they could simply enclose that portion of that ride. That seems like an easy fix but I don't know if they're overly concerned about solving that particular issue.

Seems like they wanted it to go outside to show off the ride vehicles and add a little kinetic action to what is arguably the ugliest Tomorrowland of any Disney park...the ride doesn't need to go outside at all...it could be all interior...they could have it swoop through a new restaurant/gift shop instead of outside...How cool would a futurist computer grid themed restaurant be with the Tron lightcycles circulating across the ceiling every few minutes...

Your final image is closest ;)

Still not saying it'll happen though.
TRON coaster would not work for Magic Kingdom. It would take away from Space Mountain and it's experience. It is the marquee attraction in Tomorrowland.

Now if the Magic Kingdom did another type of TRON ride, perhaps a a dark, flat-ride with some dips, spins, and speedy areas...that would be cool!
MK needs another people eater right now like a dark, flat-ride. Not sure another E-ticket is needed at MK right now. Not saying that TRON would work at EPCOT but it would work better at EPCOT then MK. Why can't we just have our own original ride! I don't want a Shanghai knock off.

I agree. Personally I think the Shanghai coaster in the MK is wrong on so many levels.

I really hope they see the light and run with another option before making what could be an expensive mistake.

The problem that site is the person is known to put their own spin into stuff like Claiming Hong Kong Disneyland's Castle. It is true that the castle was going to get bigger, but not by tearing demolishing the castle and rebuilt it like that site claimed. He also is known to take information from other sites and claim as his own.

I don't trust this Tron Rumor at all since that since lumped in Disneyland having it unless there was a change on the Captain America coaster that isn't known about by insiders including micechat.

I understand the Disneyland rumor part due to the rumors of Star Tours going away once Star Wars Land is done with the Simulator being used for a Marvel attraction in DCA. The catch is Marvel Land is supposed to get a Coaster there also besides a Simulator.

There was not rumor of Tron going to Tomorrowland in Disneyland before that site. Based on what I read on Micechat and other sites in the past, Tomorrowland is going to be ignored at Disneyland for the time being outside of removing Star Tours. Disneyland is supposed to be getting Arendelle after Star Tours is done. I haven't read anything about the Marvel Roller Coaster not going to happen.

The Disneyland part of the rumor was that the Captain America coaster and Tron Coaster would be similar enough in layout but different theming.

In order to avoid the obligatory censoring, lets just admit that the source of the castle rumor was 99% accurate compared to the dead wrong source here (happens quite a bit). And said site did label the castle, and this development, as RUMORS which turned out to be very close to what happened.

I don't know what to think of this rumor, but considering the source (Jim Hill) I wouldn't hold my breath. Seems like a "I'll just throw that out the way the wind blows" type rumor, like many floating around here. If it happens, he'll no doubt gloat and demand to be credited as the source. If, like most rumors, it turns out to not happen, he can conveniently say "things are changing" like so many of his ilk do.
I have not known Jim to gloat. As I say this, I'm sure there are examples of it, but typically it's others speaking up for him on his behalf (myself included).

Tomorrowland = Space. That is it's overall theme and the main thematic draw.

Space Mountain IS the epitome of that space theme. Besides, it's a visually striking, impressive massive metal mountain that is the largest item of the area. It screams out to people to come to it as the marquee of Tomorrowland.

If you put in a similar coaster ride, non-space based...you do a serious negative disservice to a ride & decades of Disney fan's idea of what Tomorrowland means to them.
You could move Space Mountain to Epcot...

Do you think it will be a failure stateside or just redundant?

Redundant. Massive show building. No need with SM next door. Even more crowds In the SM area. Expensive for a sixty second ride.

Its a knee jerk reaction to solve a deeper problem. The money it would cost would be better allocated elsewhere IMHO.

I'm intrigued by the coaster concept, but I was definitely underwhelmed by Pony Express at Knott's. Can Star-Lord ride a bike?

Are you of the opinion that Space Mountain can survive with a proper refurb or does the coaster need to be full on replaced?

That's been the case since Mickey's Birthday Land nearly 30 years ago. And if you have issues with bad sight lines and them not caring about lands bleeding into eachother: Walt would like to have a word with you about Adventureland, New Orleans Square, Frontierland and Bear Country. ;)

It's a problem, but it's one that's always existed at MK and elsewhere. I hope they mitigate the sight line issues by installing Tron (if that happens) in the plot that I chose to minimize the impacts. Let's be realistic about the issue though, it's not new and it's not unique to NFL and Tomorrowland.
I totally get that. There have always been bleeding. The adventure land and frontier land transition at Disneyland is perfect example. But Magic Kigndom when it was designed attempted to correct this or at least mask it, with obvious exceptions like the Castle in Liberty Square. There have always been black walls, but what opening day Mk did really well was blend these transitions so they are not as stark or glaring. Again there are exceptions like the Tomorrowland/ Fantasyland transition.

http://passport2dreams.blogspot.com/2012/08/go-away-green.html Great article on it. Ultimately the size of the show building is very large and intrusive with Tron and gives me great pause.

60 seconds my word that is short, is that really the length of the attraction? That's pathetic for a roller coaster, what is the capacity on it? It must be awful.

and Space Mountain , aside from some of the fun new ELT computer graphics, is still a superior ride...It just needs refreshing and some track love...Some new whiz-bang visuals to both the coaster and the Peoplemover within the dome to freshen up both attractions are all that is needed there. What about something that has not been built in another park for the speedway? A trackless outdoor robotic car ride through a futuristic landscape?

I really hate missing Space Mountain everytime I go to the MK. It just doesn't even register anymore for me. I get too beat up on it (I know some will argue it's safe, and I have no doubts, nothing has happened, but I'd feel a lot better with a full track replacement). I'd love nothing more than a full refurb. A true refurb. Thanks a lot Phil Holmes ...
