I would welcome a new film, that is inspired by the cinematography and score of the original, but fear the space will become an extended queue or meet and greet.

Considering Rat is the highest grossing animated film ever, in France and is almost completely based in the food traditions of France, this is one of those times I would have to disagree with it not having anything to do with the area. GotG, Frozen, etc...are shoehorned attempts to fit an IP in with its area, but Rat is about as French as you can get.
I don't like IP anymore than anybody else, but if they were going to pick one, this is about as close to a home run as you will ever get for a country and Disney IP.
As it stands the space is still earmarked to be a show space.
Until some corporate sponsors are willing to put up the money to create a national pavilion, it's satisfying to know that Disney will put up the money for an attraction at least.

Two remarks:
There is nothing satisfying or generous about a multi billion dollar profit generating resort investing in itself. The way it is normal for an airline to invest in new planes regardless of advertissement sales of its in-flight magazine.
WS was nearly completely built without sponsors.
