EPCOT Remy's Ratatouille Adventure coming to Epcot

Hi! I’m one of the people who can do 3D shows but not rides, due to hereditary eye problems and inner ear issues. I get terrible vertigo that lasts for hours after.

My mom can’t do 3D attractions of any kind.

I did Rat and MMRR once each with other people and had to close my eyes pretty much the whole time. I also can’t do coasters because of the inner ear thing.

It would be great to have a 2D glasses option, especially since so many rides I enjoyed previously have been replaced with ones I can’t do, and even most of the new ones aren’t an option for me (ROR, FOP, Guardians, Tron.)

I think I see where the confusion is coming from... I am saying Disney should provide a choice of 2D or 3D glasses to each rider, not that Disney should ONLY be giving out 2D glasses... because at that point just turn the 3D off.

It's called 7 dwarf mine train...
I wasn't confused at all. I think the guy who responded to me was, though.

My whole post was aimed directly at Paris saying they are completely getting rid of the 3D because of entitled people who can't handle it complaining. And me not wanting that to happen in Epcot. I went on a bit of a rant and I get how my overall point probably got lost and came off as me being confused.

Firstly I’m taking a guess that you have no idea what the feedback over many years has said.

Feedback doesn’t always mean they’re entitled or even complaining. It’s far more likely it’s answers to questions in a survey. You know, like Disney sends every day to recent guests.

Secondly this won’t affect you at all. Assuming your profile is accurate, you’re Florida based. This is at DLP.

Thirdly, shouldn’t this discussion be in a DLP thread rather than WDW?

Too many "gags" were designed for 3D (like the hand reaching out and hitting a mousetrap). In 2D it will look weird. Plus without spacial separation things get distorted and sizes look off kilter (See: the Kong ride with its 200-foot girl or F&F were everyone thinks the guy is riding a helicopter when its actually a drone)

How dare you call me out in such ways... 😳

If MMRR made you sick then a 2D Rat would as well.

I know this won't affect me at all because it's only happening in Paris right now.... which was why I went on an upset rant about IF it happens in Epcot I will be upset, and the people I am talking about when I say "entitled people" are the ones all of us complain about on these forums who yell the loudest because they don't like something or they can't handle it.

I don't get why what I'm saying in all my posts is so hard to understand.. Unless I'm just dumb and don't know how to word what I am thinking in my head. Sorry to everyone if that's the case. I'm just going to move on and stop replying to all this, because I am clearly saying things wrong, even though it's not my intention.

I'm guessing the OP who has ridden both MMRR and RAT knows what would and wouldn't make them sick

It just doesn't make sense.

MMRR is not a 3D ride. If that ride makes one sick then the same ride system with similar movement in another ride would give issues as well even if the 3D was removed.

If MMRR and Rise, neither of which are 3D, both cause issues. Then changing Rat from 3D to 2D has a very low chance of becoming safe.

The body doesn’t know it’s the same ride system. Differences in movements impact how people’s bodies react.

When I visited Paris over new years they were running it in 2D - I didn’t realize that was a test I thought it was built that way and they added the 3d for the American audience.

To me it didn’t really change the experience much.

My only issue with 3D attractions is when they blurry. When I rode Rat this summer the first scene looked a little off, but the rest of the ride was fine. And FoP wasn’t looking quite as sharp as a few years ago. Does anyone know what causes this? Lack of projector maintenance or something else?

A big factor are the glasses themselves, actually. Typically the glasses have a designated lifespan of 2-3 years max, and the repeated washing of them wears down the lens material over time. However in many cases the glasses remain in use far beyond their expected lifespan which results in a blurrier image from the older pairs of glasses.

MMRR doesn’t have 3D glasses, if MMRR gave you issues how would Rat going 2-D fix your problem?
Part of it is motion and screens, in general. Not every screen-based ride, mind you. The screens in Gran Fiesta and NRJ don’t bother me at all.

So with MMRR, and with one part of Ellen’s Energy Adventure, it’s certain screen action, especially when combined with motion.

The flood/water scene in MMRR actually made me so disoriented I struggled with spatial awareness for a bit, and with Energy, the Big Bang scene could give me problems.

I just closed my eyes for that part, and it was fine. My doctor told me years ago not to even attempt Soarin.

Something about simulated movement/movement in tandem with screen-based motion can set it off, and 3D makes it far worse.

So could I possibly still have an issue with 2D? Yes. But would I like to at least try and see if it would be a problem? Definitely.

Hence the reason I said rides with similar movements. All three of those rides have similar movements and utilize screens to some effect.

A person asking for Rat to be 2D who has issues with other trackless rides with screens is just throwing up a prayer that there is a microscopic chance it would become safe for them.
