I'm sure you have some idea of what this attraction will entail. Not sure if you've shared any details here. So, we know
it is going to be more expensive than it should be. But what is your thought on where it will sit in the pantheon of "E Tickets".
In other words, are we going to be wowed? You said so about ROTR many moons ago, and it looks to be true. What do you
think of the plans for this coaster? Apologies if you've covered this many times before.

You know how skunk works black projects have over inflated budgets? How WDI has a monopoly on TWDC park design? How endless meetings drag out time and resources?

A good five years ago there was a remit from the board to reign in the costs. It’s not exactly worked yet.
I have no concept of the inner workings for parks management or WDI so that's disappointing to here it's so dysfunctional and corrupt.

You don’t think two guys with absolutely no prior experience in amusement parks, design, engineering, architecture or construction are the best for the job?

Corrupt implies malfeasance that really isn’t present.

Well if the goal of those meetings is to layer on details to the details, as we seem to be getting with GE, so as to sell more tickets, I would say something is working.

The Disney difference.

In addition to bureaucratic/political issues at Disney, I think a major reason why the $$$ that buys you one (1) GotG Galaxy Coaster at WDI today could have bought you six (6) Big Thunders (including accounting for inflation) is the amount of technology involved in the design and implementation now. The computerized/tech aspects and employees are expensive. Back then you had only had art, models and architectural drawings. Today, you have things like the CAVE - which allows them to virtually experience theme parks and attractions via computer (has that made a real difference in end results?).

I think I prefer the 6 Big Thunder way.

I used to work for a company that got acquired by a company as big as Disney. It was not uncommon to see projects take 2 to 3 times longer and cost 2 to 3 times more then I could have done them before the acquisition with the exact same result, if not a better one, at the end. I don't know the details of how Disney works, but I would not be surprised to find out that those extra meetings were not actually improving the end project.

Just heard from a contact why the budget is so high. Turns out Chapek ordered Imagineers build a 1:1 scale replica of the Horizons building under the blue box and then to have it demolished. Had them do the same thing for a 1:1 model of JII. They haven't actually done any work on the GotG ride yet and are still debating whether or not to turn the entire area into a concert space for a revival of Off Kilter.

Oh, it’s crossed my mind once or twice. But I don’t own this site. I’m just a member.

I’ll just say I don’t base what I say on the odd bit of dialogue or quick typed email. And I’ve said it before, I don’t really care if I’m not believed. That’s not why I do it. I’m not out to prove anything. No skin off my nose if you think I’m a wacko. Maybe I am!

All I know is I became a believer after all the things you correctly predicted prior to the previous d23s. We love a wacko with quality inside info.

Words matter:

cor·rup·tionDictionary result for corruption
/kəˈrəpSH(ə)n/
noun

  1. 1.
dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery.
"the journalist who wants to expose corruption in high places"

Like I said, an abstract. Corruption is a broad term, not something specific like money laundering or theft which are actual crimes.

I would be more likely to believe this if we didn't end up with amazing results like Pandora and GE.
