News Reimagined Toontown coming

Even Knotts doesn't want them. They were pretty mad when they were denied special dinning events at Knott's Scary Farm.

Micechat isn't what it was and the theme parks know it.
I miss the Dateline Disneyland reports from Andy. He was a fabulous photographer and knew how to make the parks shine while also reporting about them. They seem to be fewer and far between now, with more shoddy Disneyland Updates in between.

I agree the photography on Ratchat is gotten pretty substandard. They seem to reuse pictures fairly often. It feels like the site is being sun setted.

From watching the latest video on Fresh Baked, if the scale model is to be believed, then it looks like Donald's Boat will not be accessible at all. It will just a huge prop that sprays out water. I can only hope that the stairs along the back are at least retained, but if it was, then you would think that there would be at least one or two people on the deck, and there aren't. Watch:

I thought I had heard somewhere that the boat will house all the plumbing and pumps for the splash pad fountains. It seems like the only logical place to put them.

They (Disney) confirmed it will no longer be accessible.

That's a shame. It's going to be rather awkward to not go into Donald's establishment and see some of those pictures of Donald in there:

I'm pretty sure that Goofy's establishment, once all is said and done, will still have his pictures in there, like this one of his son from the early 1950s cartoons (who may or may not be Max):

It's going to be disappointing, as well as awkward, to see pictures of Donald's friends in their homes, but not of Donald himself in his home.

And yet I can't say I'm surprised that his home will be an inaccessible prop, given how much it has been neutered by safety concerns.

I hadn't thought about this until just now, but one of the license plates in the queue for the Roger Rabbit ride reads "ZPD2DA". Given Disney's determination to distance itself from the movie, including removing "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" from all music loops in the park, it's going to be awkward to just leave the license plate as is. Here's an image to show you what I mean:

I hope they do something with it.

I would hope they would keep the Zip A Dee Doo Dah song, it's probably as well known as When You Wish Upon a Star and many african american artists have covered it over the decades. I don't think people find the song problematic and associate it more as a Disney motto than anything.

I'm secretly hoping the song is included in the new ride overlay.

Does anyone know if the bluebird chirp from Song of the South still plays whenever a ticket is scanned at the gates?

Considering what kind of songs they play in "The Princess and the Frog" and that the songs in the new ride are likely to be original (or at least contain original lyrics set to the tune of the movie's songs), I'm going to assume that "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" will not be included.

The delightful Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah is being/has been surgically excised from park audio due to it's distant association with the song Zip C***. It doesn't stand any chance of being included in the PATF retheme. Is the word "zip" bad now. I dunno. I compared the songs a couple of years ago when this all exploded and thought that Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah was to Zip C*** what Splash Mountain was to Song of the South: A popular and very remote adaptation that carefully side-stepped the racist themes of the originals.

As far as I can tell- and I could be wrong- but Zip a Dee Doo Dah's relation to that minstrel song is a modern idea that was popularized in the You Must Remember This podcast series on Song of the South. I don't think there's anything from the '40s - or even just from before that podcast- that cites the minstrel song as an inspiration for Zip a Dee Doo Dah. I'm not saying there's no relation- but I do think that relation has been vastly overstated in recent years.

Not to mention, the Minstrel song is played to Turkey in the Straw, which is still featured in the park.

Just like Fresh Baked Disney, that podcast should be seen and not heard.

A bit overdue, but I found out from MiceChat that progress has been made on Toontown, with the El Capitoon theater entrance almost finished and the water area around Donald's Boat has been completely removed to be replaced with a splash zone. The podcast that some have derisively denounced as the podcast that should be seen and not heard (i.e., Fresh Baked Disney) offers an update (from 0:22 to 10:15):

What show? Who's denouncing it? Source? (Please use the quote function)

With pleasure...

Just like Fresh Baked Disney, that podcast [You Must Remember This] should be seen and not heard.

And to that, I said, "If you can't hear it, how can you understand what they're saying?"

Anyway, based on the latest images, I think they still have a long way to go before the land is ready. Rumor has it that Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway will open in January by itself without the rest of the land opening with it, but I would think that they would want to open the land at least a couple months or so after (say, March or something), and it doesn't look like it's even close to that.
