Maybe this has been Ron’s secret strategy the whole time. To finally get them on board. :)

Most object to Citizens United because it opened the door to millions of $$$$ anonymously flowing into campaigns. "Dark money" is what it's referred to. If Dunkin' Donuts wants to call any government official a "fat, pompous jerk" and legislation restricting donuts to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays a danger to society and intolerable, that's their prerogative. However, said government official, as punishment, shouldn't revoke Dunkin's authority to operate their shops or paint them red.

He wants the silencing of the LGBTQ community, to be sure. He wants everyone back in the closet and we will be making sure that never, ever happens just because of the bigoted mind of a very small man and his smaller supporters.
Honestly, I don't think any of that about him at all.

I think his base wants that to happen though, so if he has to appease them, he'll do it. Because at the end, he's a politician, and that means he can't have beliefs or a spine, lest he have to give up his cushy gravy train and get a real job.

This has nothing to do with the Constitutional First Amendment in regards to "free speech". I am really surprised at the amount of people beating that drum, since this crowd is usually a bit more educated about such things.

This is not a law that "abridge(s) freedom of speech". No one is making a law saying Disney can't do or say what they please.

What they are doing is proposing to remove special privileges Disney has with the government because it is actively trying to work against them. Is it retaliatory? Sure, but it has nothing to do with the First Amendment or prohibiting Disney's Free Speech. It's just nasty politics, and Disney has no "right" to those special privileges to begin with.

I'm just amazed at how pro-corporations special treatment people have suddenly become...
Or maybe many realize a lot of the special privileges bandied about are just made up, offered to others and don’t give the sort of advantages portrayed.

If Disney doesn't benefit from it, then I guess they will come out with a statement any time now voluntarily relinquishing it.
Disney’s benefit is in predictability and control and they were granted in exchange for regulation. That doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways to get those benefits. The Villages is thousands of people living in a pseudo hereditary monarchy.

A $2200 tax hike for every Orange and Osceola county family - yikes!

So much for fiscal conservatism.

No one pays off an ongoing bond debt with a single assessment. This is a lame attempt at someone trying to divide a debt / # of tax payers. That's not how it works :)

The counties would simply raise money by issuing their own bonds if the old debt had to be bought out... but I'm sure there is some sort of transfer or debt servicing thing that could be worked out.

What matters is the county would take on new debt - not suddenly raise taxes. That's real shock jock reporting by that lady. horrid.

I want to see Disney retaliate with pettiness:

The affordable housing we were going to build? nah, changed our mind.

Florida resident discounts? Nothing but a memory.

Lake Nona Campus what?

Donations to local charities? That’s cute.
Problem is several of those things are for Disney to cut costs and then go get petted like lap dogs by their Wall Street masters

Well, I just read every page of this thread during a Greek diner dinner and learned a lot about my fellow members of this site. Just kidding. I’ve been here a while. I already knew who the fellow members were. But some of these comments. I should’ve had a V-8. Now I’m heading to a Broadway show where I will probably catch COVID thanks to the maskless coughing sneezing hacking tourists who are suddenly back in full force. Have a lovely evening.

They're all bigots.
There's video, man. Video and documents and concrete evidence of teachers pushing "cisgender" kids to transition to the opposite gender or some third gender and to hide their transition from their parents. This is a real, ACTUAL thing that is happening. We can debate the extent to which it's happening, or whether the Parental Rights in Whatever Act is an effective means of combatting it, but your head is in the sand if you think it's not real.

Correct. It was given as an incentive to Disney. An incentive that can be removed.

It can. But the district has been a win-win for all parties for 55 years. The issue at hand is the reason for dissolving it, now. If special districts are such an anathema to the Legislature, why not go after all 1100+ of them?

Why penalize the shrimpers and oystermen of Franklin County by dissolving the county's water and sewage district that will have a direct effect on water quality in that portion of the Gulf and directly affect their livelihood?

They absolutely will, but nothing which will harm their image further

Get ready for every person who voted for this to be primaried by a Disney funded candidate, and in the general, any remaining candidate who made it through the primary, to have their opponent extremely well funded by Disney.
