The pandemic already proved that TWDC can survive without both theme parks in the US, so they could close one.
This might be one of the most obtuse things I have ever read on this site.

I'm not one for a confrontation so I will say this and then stay silent. I understand that you think people will still come to Florida. However, you can't tell me that Disney has doesn't attract a lot of people to the state. You also can't tell me that the state wouldn't feel a hit if Disney were to suddenly pack up and head out. So I really think your argument is null.
Poor NJ. We should throw NY under the bus instead. Within just a few months they lost a governor due to sexual assault charges and then a lt. governor due to bribery charges. NJ is a state of angels. At least you don’t have to pump your own gas
A cake maker in Colorado probably disagrees with you.
So the founders were big on using government power to punish private speech, right?I must have missed the part of the Enlightenment where James Madison bribed the East India Company with special legislative carve-outs in exchange for them agreeing to set up growing operations in southern Virginia.
And you may have missed the memo, but liberalism is cringe now. It's a poo-flinging contest between the illiberal left and the illiberal right.
I was going by individual tourist destinations - WDW vs the Vegas Strip.Orlando as a whole gets roughly $25 billion in tourism spend. For the benefit of the doubt let’s say Disney pulls 80% of that (and that’s being gracious). That puts it equal to Vegas and not much ahead of Miami.
Orlando ranks among largest tourism markets in the world, but the city's reliance on the industry could be a problem
Orlando and New York dominate tourism in the U.S., but a new report shows the increasing dominance of Asian cities when it comes to tourism....www.orlandoweekly.com
That’s because the bills were identical. All is needed is for the House to take up the Senate bill and pass it. Looks like that will happen tomorrow then go to the Governor’s desk. The House has tabled its bill and has substituted it with the Senate's.
The only political event I've been to in my life was a Paul Ryan speech in The Villages, ironically, in 2012. An old lady next to me fainted in the heat and I had to cradle her until an ambulance arrived. The GOP seemingly gave up on fiscal conservatism and went all in on the culture war as of late.
When it was created the District created more regulation for Disney. The was no state building code, zoning was very loose. Even today, the District is not exempt from state law and many county ordinances. You are just making things up and throwing them out there because you like the guy with the grudge.I must have missed the part of the Enlightenment where James Madison bribed the East India Company with special legislative carve-outs in exchange for them agreeing to set up growing operations in southern Virginia.
Were your hearts beating in unison, both of you breathing as one, two souls united by love? The only political event I've been to in my life was a Paul Ryan speech in The Villages, ironically, in 2012. An old lady next to me fainted in the heat and I had to cradle her until an ambulance arrived.
Which "opponents"?DeSantis types and their opponents do this to one another. They all deserve it, so I don't particularly care.
I would love for our political climate to look something like Mitt Romney debating Amy Klobuchar. But it ain't gonna be any time soon.
In your face, you miserable, money-grubbing, blood-sucking bunch of vultures. This is only the beginning Mickey. Karma has more fun little tricks up her sleeve that go far beyond Florida. Your arrogance and greed know no bounds. Foolish mortals, indeed.
As much as I don’t like the gop ( or dems) at the end of the day this is chapeks fault. I’m a former CM and defended Iger all the time, he was a great ceo. I hope all those people who gave iger crap over the years are happy with themselvesLooks like Chapek poked the wrong bear. The idiot. The political pendulum is indeed swinging back, and swinging back hard.
Next, some lawmakers are talking about ending "Disney's" copyright to Mickey Mouse. Now, for my part, I don't want that to happen. I shudder to think what some people would do to the Mouse. I would be thrilled if Mickey belongs to his parent company for perpetuity. But the lawmakers could absolutely end the copyright, from what I understand, and I don't think there's much that "Disney" could do about it. Perhaps I'm wrong. I hope so. But this is what comes of boneheads who live in a bubble failing to read the room. Chapek should have stuck with his original statement regarding that so-called "Don't Say Gay" bill (yes, I know that's not what the bill is about). But he didn't, and now DeSantis has opened a can of whoopass on him. Maybe something good will come of all this. But frankly, I feel like hunkering down in a bunker right now until this mess blows over...
The Reedy Creek Improvement Act of 1967 was a mistake. It was cronyism, corporatism, and a whole bunch of other -isms. I'm pleased to see this mistake corrected. I'm unconcerned with the underlying motivations of those doing so.So the founders were big on using government power to punish private speech, right?

Obviously people gambling will spend more than a theme park where you don't actually have to spend a cent beyond admission.
Uhhhh No. At Disney properties guests spend many cent's beyond the price of admission. Yes, many cent's.I was going by individual tourist destinations - WDW vs the Vegas Strip.

That much is true. It’s not like they need the RCID anymore anyway. They have the money and can work directly with the counties. If it’s good enough for Uni, Sea World and Legoland, it’s good enough for WDW.Disney will be in Florida long after DeSantis has moved on, just a waiting game
