I'm not one for a confrontation so I will say this and then stay silent. I understand that you think people will still come to Florida. However, you can't tell me that Disney has doesn't attract a lot of people to the state. You also can't tell me that the state wouldn't feel a hit if Disney were to suddenly pack up and head out. So I really think your argument is null.

There’s no confrontation. We’re just engaging in dialogue. My opinion differs from yours. You’re entitled to yours. I’m entitled to mine.

I must have missed the part of the Enlightenment where James Madison bribed the East India Company with special legislative carve-outs in exchange for them agreeing to set up growing operations in southern Virginia.

And you may have missed the memo, but liberalism is cringe now. It's a poo-flinging contest between the illiberal left and the illiberal right.
So the founders were big on using government power to punish private speech, right?

You found a stupid article on the internet! That's exactly the same thing as one of the most powerful government officials in America passing legislation! I guess if I can find someone saying something dumb on twitter, it justifies my vote for a candidate who promises to violate the constitution.

Orlando as a whole gets roughly $25 billion in tourism spend. For the benefit of the doubt let’s say Disney pulls 80% of that (and that’s being gracious). That puts it equal to Vegas and not much ahead of Miami.

I was going by individual tourist destinations - WDW vs the Vegas Strip.

Obviously people gambling will spend more than a theme park where you don't actually have to spend a cent beyond admission.

When it was created the District created more regulation for Disney. The was no state building code, zoning was very loose. Even today, the District is not exempt from state law and many county ordinances. You are just making things up and throwing them out there because you like the guy with the grudge.

Let's be real here... this has nothing to do about Disney opposing anything, and everything to do with Disney ceasing all state political contributions. In the end it's always about the money. That being said, this is going to require the same kind of solution that the war in Ukraine requires: one where both sides make serious compromises. It's not pretty, or fair, but it is what it is.

The only political event I've been to in my life was a Paul Ryan speech in The Villages, ironically, in 2012. An old lady next to me fainted in the heat and I had to cradle her until an ambulance arrived.

This bill will never be enacted.

1. RICD will likely sue that it’s rights were violated with them not allowing local approval.

2. The legislature quietly extends the deadline from June of 2023 to later or just kills it in another bill.

But all you DeSantis supporters continue to high five yourself. I don’t know why he thinks this is a winner long term, other cooperations are likely to not want to support someone who can be so petty hurting his ability to fundraise. This is such a stupid waste of time.

Looks like Chapek poked the wrong bear. The idiot. The political pendulum is indeed swinging back, and swinging back hard.

Next, some lawmakers are talking about ending "Disney's" copyright to Mickey Mouse. Now, for my part, I don't want that to happen. I shudder to think what some people would do to the Mouse. I would be thrilled if Mickey belongs to his parent company for perpetuity. But the lawmakers could absolutely end the copyright, from what I understand, and I don't think there's much that "Disney" could do about it. Perhaps I'm wrong. I hope so. But this is what comes of boneheads who live in a bubble failing to read the room. Chapek should have stuck with his original statement regarding that so-called "Don't Say Gay" bill (yes, I know that's not what the bill is about). But he didn't, and now DeSantis has opened a can of whoopass on him. Maybe something good will come of all this. But frankly, I feel like hunkering down in a bunker right now until this mess blows over...
As much as I don’t like the gop ( or dems) at the end of the day this is chapeks fault. I’m a former CM and defended Iger all the time, he was a great ceo. I hope all those people who gave iger crap over the years are happy with themselves

At the end of the day we’re talking money. And Vegas isn’t about gambling losses. Hasn’t been for a very, very long time. Have you ever tried to rent a cabana at a pool party or spend an evening at Tao?

Uhhhh No. At Disney properties guests spend many cent's beyond the price of admission. Yes, many cent's.

Disney will be in Florida long after DeSantis has moved on, just a waiting game
That much is true. It’s not like they need the RCID anymore anyway. They have the money and can work directly with the counties. If it’s good enough for Uni, Sea World and Legoland, it’s good enough for WDW.
