Umm, am I the only one who is surprised to see this hail mary being thrown this early in the game? This is what they have coming? That Disney's actions were "criminal?" Yikes.
I think it's a "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" type scenario. In his mind, it would be great if they find criminal behavior, but he's also asking to look for ethical and civil violations. Basically, the more they find, the better position he is in.

For those who thought his win was too early for better presidential campaign election. Here you go. Here is the next phase and something that can become another victory either way.

The Western Way Widening will be like this section. It's interesting that it says "Flyover" for the Buena Vista Dr end. I assume this is going to be a intersection like the one at the upper right corner connection World Drive and Epcot Center Drive.

Western Way is also going to become a more used entrance over the next 10 years with several connections between Lake/Orange counties opening, so widening it makes sense.

There’s the 429 extension to US27 in Lake County, from basically Hamlin to Lake Louisa, in 2027ish. Also Schofield Rd to Avalon Rd soon-ish. And Sawgrass Bay Blvd to Avalon (which will basically make Western Way run straight to US27), by 2026.

Not to mention that development between 429 and US27 is booming in general.

This ding dong does know without the billions in taxes a year that these parks bring in (other theme parks included) is why FL residents dont pay state income taxes. Not sure why he feels he needs to bite the hand that feeds him. Apprarently he thinks his tooth pick is bigger than the one that Iger has. LOL..
This is like a telenovela. I just keep making popcorn.
You can say whatever you want about what DeSantis is doing, and if its good/bad/legal, ect., but calling him a Ding Dong, when at every step he is getting exactly what he wants at no personal costs seems like a big stretch.

First, as to the billions in taxes from the parks, do you think there is any chance anything that he has done here puts that in jeopardy? Is WDW picking up and moving the parks, and all the rides and the jobs created someplace else? Absent Florida declaring theme parks illegal, there is no threat of WDW moving the parks and the tax money out of FLA. Leaving aside all the pluses in Orlando like weather, transportation, existing tourist market, ect., do you think there is ANY way when disney is cutting jobs to save money that they are going to expend money to purchase, at today market rates, land of a size to fit all the parks (assuming you find a location that makes as much sense as having them in Florida) and build up all the new infrastructure to support them?

Second, again DeSantis is getting everything he wants from this soap opera. Free TV time and publicity for his base. When he first started this train wreck he got to stand up against WOKE Disney. He gets to not only reach out to his Christian conservative base, but also gets to stand up against the corrupt big business practices. And if you don't think that a tailor made 2-1 issue to highlight when your gearing up for a primary battle against former President Trump, I can't help you.

Even now, he is still going to get exactly what he wanted. More publicity and air time. Running the permitting and roads for the area was never his end goal. But he gets to not dissolve the district, so no new big local taxes (conservative rep check no. 1), your biggest tax base business gets to keep churning along and making money and paying taxes (check no. 2) AND now you get to keep complaining about the issue. This is why HE needs to be president. These woke corporations think they are bigger then the government, bigger than YOU the voter (leaving aside this was ram-roaded through without popular vote or input.) The election is not right around the corner, he needs the fight and the issue more than control over some permits, which at the end of the day, wasn't the control over content and corporate governance that it was sold to be in the first place.

In terms of the Western Way expansion, it makes sense. It would be useful for cast members and third-party participants who work at Disney and live in that area.

There is a ton of development that has taken place in Horizon West and Clermont over the last few years and it is not going to stop. They have been in the process of expanding Avalon Rd as well. Add in the new State Rd 516 that will provide a direct connection from US-27 to 429 for consideration as well.

They are probably planning on more usage of Western Way and traffic already isn't great.

Given what we just saw with the union negotiations, I'm having trouble believing Disney would spend $250 million of their own money to make the commute of CMs and third-party participants easier.

Yeah, I’m sure this is exactly what he wanted  He’s auditioning for the biggest job promotion in his life where he will be responsible for negotiating complicated agreements with foreign nations on behalf of the US and he got punked by a mouse. He has total control in FL and got outmaneuvered in a spectacularly embarrassing way. This is most certainly not the publicity he wanted and at the worst possible time as he slips further in the polls.

Then more dirt will need to be uncovered on his opponents for him to have a chance to rise up in the polls.

Having worked in large corporations that would often do dirty deals like this appears to be, I can assure you that they would have also left a trail of emails and texts between the folks on the board and Disney's folks. If Florida starts digging I'm betting money it wouldn't take long to find some smoking texts and emails that they colluding together which could open both Disney and the board members to criminal prosecution. I expect Florida to now start going over everything with a fine tooth comb. Sometimes corporations forget that even if they have great lawyers, when they off the government they are fighting an adversary that can also change the rules and make any victory you have worthless. It is always best to stay on good terms with any government you have to deal with... Disney is only going to cause themselves more headaches than they already have.
This was not a dirty deal. Why are you just throwing it out there like it's fact. And you working at large corporations is meaningless in this conversation unless you are attorney in house that put together a deal like this.
