We’re not talking about bias. That always exists. We’re talking about a “news” company who knowingly and deliberately told total lies. The reported on XYZ, knowing that what they told their viewers about XYZ was the exact opposite of what happened, and said they couldn’t tell their viewers the truth because they wouldn’t watch and the company would lose money. They convinced their viewers that lies are truth, just to keep them happy. That isn’t something to admire or emulate.
Totally agree, companies should not lie to protect their bottom line.

I definitely agree if they are saying that. It’s clearly more profitable for the company but I see no valid way to sell it as better for guests. I was hopeful that maybe part of Iger’s pulling back on “money grabs” like parking fees would include a return to some form of FP+.

I think it’s disappointing when a project is announced and then it falls through, but I still that is different than lying. If they add something in at D23 that they have no intention of actually building then that would be a lie.
You’re right. TWDC never lies.

Could be a turning point for his career. If he can’t stop himself and continues this fight it could be the beginning of a downward spiral not unlike Chis Christie with the bridge thing. If he walks away now he just claims victory publicly anyway which the base accepts and he wins points (or avoids losing more points) with independents and moderates in both parties.
I have an old friend who knew him from his time in the navy. Walking away from a presumed slight is apparently not in his brain chemistry.

When I worked at Disney, we were told that it's a fire safety violation for the ECV's to be inside the room and always told guests to leave them outside the room. I wonder where this miscommunication came from.
I was going to comment... I know this was California, but I was at Disneyland last month and the ECVs were clearly parked in the hallways.

You're talking about a lost art, I'm afraid.
Something so far removed from the present time that it no longer computes for some.
Just straight up giving the public the facts of a story as best they can be ascertained and letting the public come to their own conclusions.

I'm pretty sure the beginning of the end was the birth of CNN and with it, the commercialization of news along with the need to have 24 hours of it a day.

Prior to that point, most local networks treated news as a public service. Some didn't even run commercials during the evening news broadcasts.

A big chunk (possibly most) of the people on these forums probably weren't alive to experience the incredibly dry, often boring but mostly un-tinted, news.

That is not something I have any visibility to.

From the 2023-02-08 meeting minutes, starting on page 164:

We go from around $26MM/year on roads in FY22/23 and FY23/24, to $156MM/year in FY26/27.

That's a 500% increase in road spending.

Here are the projects. Why spend $250MM to widen Western Way? What's Disney get out of that?

@danlb_2000 - can you draw out on a map where these big projects are going to go? You know more about this than me.

These are some big but necessary projects. Western Way is a mess every rush hour, this will help alleviate traffic backing up onto Buena Vista Drive. The other big one is bus lanes on BVD from Bonnet Creek to World Drive… that’s going to be messy.

In terms of the Western Way expansion, it makes sense. It would be useful for cast members and third-party participants who work at Disney and live in that area.

There is a ton of development that has taken place in Horizon West and Clermont over the last few years and it is not going to stop. They have been in the process of expanding Avalon Rd as well. Add in the new State Rd 516 that will provide a direct connection from US-27 to 429 for consideration as well.

They are probably planning on more usage of Western Way and traffic already isn't great.

Western Way backs up for rush hour, so many homes/apartments going up in that area, definitely need it sooner than later. Not sure why an expansion when the only issue so far would be the Buena Vista intersection.

The only thing I don't see (which is out of Disney's hands) are improvements to the 192/World Drive exit, which backs up well into WDW during rush hour as well.

Lol…

If you call that “traffic”…you need to see the world more 🤪

I’ve driven right through Manhattan and out through the Holland Tunnel in the middle of the day/early afternoon, as well as DC a few times. I’d much rather drive through Manhattan than deal with the traffic around here on a regular basis. I HATE driving in DC, and yes I’ve sat in traffic in LA. Orlando traffic still sucks.

I have no idea. The hallway in a hotel is designed to accommodate a certain number of people trying to flee the building in an emergency. You can’t just keep things in places like hallways because you’re now reducing the how many people can use that hallway. Then if there is smoke or a power outage, you have an obstacle people won’t know is there and will run into.

Frankly, for as well as Disney does with accessibility, they frankly suck at building accessible hotel rooms. They know full and well that they see more people with different needs than a typical hotel but they continue to only build the code required minimum.

Ha, that makes like no sense. A battery is less of a fire hazard if it's in the hallway vs in the room? This sounds like someone who was thinking 'don't make the room crowded' and made up something. Serious disconnect between safety and someone likely just trying to deal day to day.
