Ratatouille in Epcot

Any intellectual property .... Be it Pixar or whatever... Simply just does not belong in World Showcase.

Because frankly, it's not about you & what you like, it's about the host countries and their culture.

Keep reflections of France. And there's plenty of empty space in future world to develop for your "rides."

Give me Brazil, a Brazil themed attraction & a steakhouse.

And while we're at it..... Leave Norway alone. Keep the frozen girls and their four hour tour elsewhere.

If you guys think Dr Who is a great example of British ways, culture and life then god help us.

Its a single tv show on a single tv network. Laughed at through the 70s and 80s until a higher budget resurrection in 2005 brought it to a new audience.

Kind of like having Knight Rider instead of the American Adventure (and I loved Knight Rider)
I'm thinking more of a top gear show ride! Lol

And also while we are at it...we need more rides like the Mexico Boat ride. World Showcase should be filled with amazing attractions like this one. Whoever redesigned Imagination needs to take a hard eye on how to improve World Showcase. Just give that guy carte blanche, then relax and rest easy....you will be in good hands.

Reading this thread, it has become apparent why nothing has been done to Epcot in so long.
Everyone has a different opionion...excuse me...different FACT about where Epcot and World Showcase should be heading.
It will be interesting if anything ever gets done again at this park.

Dr.Who is a product of the UK. UK at Epcot is supposed to be a sample of things from the UK. Ratatouille is an american product about France.

Okay.

Neither belong. Zero tolerance for your so-called "intellectual" properties, mass-marketed for mass consumption, dumbed down for middle American wal-mart zombies that swill Budweiser & graze on churros.

Management believes the guests will always come & they don't need to continually upgrade, innovate or improve to draw an audience.

Eroding market share says otherwise.

So then for those who are OK with Dr. Who (and don't get me wrong, I would love an attraction of some sort), then Mary Poppins would be OK to have a ride in the UK pavilion, right?

I'd be fine with a Mary Poppins ride in UK (though less interested in it as the movie/story doesn't appeal to me much) but don't think it is as a good a fit as Doctor Who. Dr Who is a cultural icon for Britain, with a very long history (multi-generational). Mary Poppins is better known for being an American film that happens to have British characters.

Personally, I would view putting Dr. Who in the UK pavilion on par with having Beatles tribute band there (which I think is fine as well). Edit: to be clear, I'm not suggesting that Dr. Who has the same kind of recognition/appeal as the Beatles, but I think it's the same kind of rationale in whether it is "appropriate".

And I think Sherlock Holmes is another good idea for a UK attraction. That's a good mention.

Kind of like having Knight Rider instead of the American Adventure (and I loved Knight Rider)

That's a pretty lousy comparison considering Dr. Who's 50 year history.

I think Star Trek would be a far better comp given the length of history and status as "cult classic" for a long time before having more mainstream success later. And because they are both sci-fi based and appealing to the nerdy set.

That's also a tough comparison between Who and Poppins. If the goal is to introduce people to a different cultural product like Who, then you could argue it would be a good fit despite what some may see as a "cult" or non-mainstream following. Poppins would immediately be a natural fit for a Disney crowd, kinda like the Caballeros in Mexico. I would argue that Who and the Beatles isn't even a close comparison and would suggest that the name recognition of the Beatles is significantly higher then Dr. Who.

The only ride your doctor who needs is a ride down to the sewage treatment plant.

These two comments directly contradict each other. The Brits love their Doctor Who, so by your logic it's not about you, it's about them. ;)

Edit: But I agree with above, would make sense in a Studio's park likely more. It's less of a celebration of British culture, which is the inherent essence of Epcot. One of the few reasons I think Ratatouille is an ok fit.

There in lies one of the many challenges within the Disney community. Impossible to please no matter what happens and jumping down everyone else's throats if they don't agree...not singling you our anyone out BTW. While I appreciate passion, sometimes it's a bit embarrassing to be a part of the community.

Its strange seeing people say Doctor Who is a cultural icon for Britain when as a Brit myself I don't see it as such at all. Shakespeare, James Bond, The Beatles, Potter (Beatrix and Harry) all are cultural icons. Doctor Who? Not so much.

I think Martin is right. From a Brit's perspective I don't think its as popular or iconic as Americans seem to think it is. Then again an American has said to me that they thought One Direction is our best musical export ahead of The Beatles so maybe I don't know Americans as well as I think :p.
