Bandwidth Issues...

Ok, I am very suprised, but due to the OVERWHELMING demand to view the RCT2 screenshot page I put together, my bandwidth limit of 1 GB has been exceeded. :brick: So, I have created a clone of that screenshot page in another account of mine to help balance out the bandwidth usage. Here is the link. I have also added it to my signature.

I think there is also supposed to be parking lots. Because it said there would be tram services. I will definitely buy this game when it comes out. I am a big RCT fan.

Wow! That think about parking lots would be cool. Just think if there were hotels with trams and shuttle services to the parks that would be cool.

You know out of all the stuff they add, I really hope they add fireworks. Do you know how totally awsome that would be.

When do you think we'll see more pics of the game?

Oh and by the way, Great job on keeping this thread updated with all the latest facts and info on RCT 2. You guys cruise and search the net so I don't have too. :D

Yeah diffenately parades. I forgot totally about them. It would be interesting if they ever put it in the game how they would do it.

This game looks AWESOME!... I cant wait for it to come out.

But the one thing I kept joyously seeing in the pictures were...

DOUBLE WIDE PATHS!!!

Is it poosible that the peeps are not as lemming-esque as they were in the first one? Can we finally, truly create a realistic and working park map?

Only time will tell...

Well, actually I can tell you right now that, YES, you will be able to create double wide paths. Chris Sawyer mentioned in an interview done by GameSpy that he added another layer of AI to the peeps, or guests. Besides, it wouldn't be a good marketing decision to show pictures of double and even triple wide paths if they weren't possible. ;)

Yes that is a new feature I can't WAIT to get my hands on. Chris created that so the another new feature, blocking breaks, could be implemented. For those of you who don't know what blocking brakes are, here's a brief rundown:

Blocking brakes do what they are named for: they block other cars from entering the loading station before the train in the loading station leaves. This will substantially decrease that pesky "Station Brakes Failure" and car crashes we are all so familiar with, though I'm sure "Blocking Brakes Failure" is a possibility. Basically, a rollercoaster is split up into several sections, or blocks. Each block is separated by blocking brakes, with only one car being allowed in each block at a time. For example, car A is in block 2 on a rollercoaster. Car B reaches the end of block 1 and begins to head into block two by passing through the block 2 blocking brakes entrance. If car A is still in block 2 for some reason at the time car B enters block 2, the blocking brakes will automatically kick in and stop car B, keeping it from entering block 2 until car A leaves block 2. Whew....thats a lot of blocks!

All I can say is I can't wait! Keep checking back, as I will make news posts as more info and screenshots are released!

Alright....Another UPDATE!!!

Ok...First of all, as I mentioned before, since E3 ended there would not be as many updates in this thread. As you can clearly see, I was right. However, I do have a little more information, with the help of PC Gamer Magazine. The following is a mini preview from the pages of the August 2002 edition of PC Gamer Magazine:

RollerCoaster Tycoon was a massive success, due in no small part to its accessible and addictive gameplay. It's also an original and incredible story of essentially one man - Chris Sawyer - producing the hit, and programming in core machine code.

Keeping the same 2D isometric view of its predecessor, RollerCoaster Tycoon II will feature overhauled graphics and will now support resolutions of 1024-768. The parks and objects will also be much larger, and the number of animations has been increased as well.

One of the bigggest additions is the inclusion of five Six Flags parks. We took an extended look at the Magic Mountain park and found the reproduction to be spot-on, including its dipiction of the Goliath coaster. Beyond the new licensed parks, there'll be six new themes (such as a pirate theme), nine new coasters, and 20 total scenarios. You'll also get a coaster designer, which looks extremely simple to use.

Unfortunately, accroding to senior producer Thomas Zohorik, RCT II won't include a sandbox mode. But you will be able to create a kinda-sorta sandbox mode with the enclosed scenario editor. "You can build a park," says Zahorik, "and use the editor to give yourself a $5 million loan, give yourself all the land, and so on. It's not an exact sand-box mode, but it's pretty close."

The interface looks to be nearly identical to the one that powered the first game, and all of the quirky animations and other trademarks appear to be intact.

As you can see, our question on the sandbox mode was answered. However, it looks like we will be able to something close to it. I like the idea of everything being larger and having more animations, and we have found out that there will be 9 new coasters and 20 new scenerios, not including the ones we will be able to create ourselves with the help of the included but limited scenerio editor. The only detailed information is the mentioning of Pirate Theming, which I was hoping for from the beginning. The only thing I find strange, however, is that there was no mention of the number of new flat rides in the game. I find that a little nerve racking.

Keep checking this thread for all of the latest developments and info on RollerCoaster Tycoon II!

Update...

Alright everyone, another update. This is a new interview of the pages of HomeLan Fed. They recently did an interview with Chris Sawyer. Not much new information is released in this one, BUT he does touch on the development status of RCT II. Enjoy!

From HomeLan Fed:

Let's face facts: RollerCoster Tycoon and its two expansion packs have turned from being merely a very successful PC sim game into a huge phenomenon. With millions of copies already sold and the original still showing up in the top 10 lists of best selling PC games, the amusment park and rollercoster building sim has spawned tons of imitations. This fall, however, the original returns when RollerCoaster Tycoon II hits shelves courtesy of the game's creator and designer Chris Sawyer and publisher Infogrames. HomeLAN got a chance to chat with Sawyer about the new game and how the success of the original has changed his life.

HomeLAN- While you must have known that the original RollerCoaster Tycoon was a fun game, did you have any inkling that the title would become as popular as it has become?

Chris Sawyer - The game's popularity has grown far beyond what I expected - It's like the game has taken on a life of its own and grown out of all proportion.

HomeLAN- How has developing a multi-million best selling title changed your life?

Chris Sawyer - I have a nice house and a nice car, but a job with increasing pressure and responsibilities, and there are never enough hours in the day to get everything done.

HomeLAN- Since the release of the original RollerCoaster Tycoon, there seems to be a huge amount of strategy-sim games with the word "Tycoon" in the title. How do you feel about this trend?

Chris Sawyer - There are a few other great 'Tycoon' games, but there are also many others which really aren't up to much. I hope that games players don't get misled by the names and buy something which disappoints them. You can't blame publishers for trying though - The 'Tycoon' name has been strong for many years, long before RollerCoaster Tycoon there was Sid Meier's great game Railroad Tycoon, and then my own game Transport Tycoon.

HomeLAN- When you decided to create a full fledged sequel to RollerCoaster Tycoon, what were your goals?

Chris Sawyer - I had two main goals - First, to add more depth and detail to the game (e.g. bigger map size, more detailed roller coasters, scenario editor, vertical scenery construction), and second, to make it easier to build complex rides and parks (e.g. automatic tree removal, 'ghost' object construction markers, instant track designs complete with scenery).

HomeLAN- The look of the sequel is said to be more or less the same as the first RollerCoaster Tycoon. Why did you decide to stay with the original look rather than do a huge graphical upgrade?

Chris Sawyer - I could have put several years work into doing a 'huge graphical upgrade', but would it have made the game any more fun to play? RollerCoaster Tycoon is all about interaction, construction, and gameplay, and I felt that it was more important to upgrade these areas than to spend too much time on more superficial aspects of the game. I also think that the present graphical style suits the game perfectly, both in terms of how it looks, and in terms of the display performance when viewing complex roller coasters and scenery constructed from up to 100,000 individual 3D objects plus over 5000 people.

HomeLAN- What sort of new gameplay features can players expect to check out in the sequel?

Chris Sawyer - A separate roller coaster design mode, a scenario editor, vertical scenery construction, themed track designs with scenery, larger map size and height, loads of improvements to roller coasters, new types of scenery, and many new rides and shops/stalls.

HomeLAN- How are you refining the AI of the sequel as compared to the original?

Chris Sawyer - I put quite a bit of work into improving the behaviour of the people in the game, helping them to find their way around (which they found very difficult on large paved areas in the original game), and also adding just a bit more depth into their actions.

HomeLAN- Currently what is the status of the game's development and do you think the game will be released by the end of this year?

Chris Sawyer - The game is now 98% complete and will enter the testing/tweaking and localization stage soon. It is on schedule for publication in October
this year.

HomeLAN- Do you see yourself venturing out and doing games outside the RollerCoaster Tycoon series in the future?

Chris Sawyer - Yes, but I doubt I will do anything radically different in the near future - Don't expect a 3D shooting game or motor racing game from me!

HomeLAN- Finally, is there anything else you wish to say about RollerCoaster Tycoon II?

Chris Sawyer - I'm looking forward to when it's finished - I might actually have time to ride a few real roller coasters instead of building virtual ones!

Oh and one other thing......

Keep checking this thread today......I found four more screenshots...... :drevil:

They're kind of crude looking, but they ARE new. I'll try to get them up on the two screenshots pages sometime today.

See everyone later! :)

Hey check out what was posted on Screamscape today

Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 - (6/30/02) A website that has the game up for advance sale lists the following five Six Flags parks included in the game: Six Flags Magic Mountain, Six Flags Great Adventure, Six Flags over Texas, Six Flags Holland and a park described as being in Dusseldorf, Germany. ***The odd thing is that there is no Six Flags park in Germany, though I believe the Warner Bros. MovieWorld park in Germany is close.***

That last tidbit of info is interesting. Have you looked at this park on the web? It is very interesting and highly themed. I'll try to post a link to here in 5 minutes. Check it out. I can only imagine all the details that could go in that park. It even has a replica of the Mann's Chinese Theatre. What do you think cac2889?
