Quiet 40th Anniversary

COP and the Tiki Room were on the drawing board for the 40th. Now a new day parade (!) is about the only thing definitely planned.

Then there's that FLE thing... ;)

I believe him about the Nightastic/40th anniversary problem. The marketing and DDG departments are often thrown things at the last minute. Much of Disney's design work has been outsourced to a local firm lately, which is why so many things use the same clip art. Disney Parks has some of the worst timeline planning in the world.

Thats just sad. It seems like they could at least do something with the Tiki Room. I thought Burbank was starting to have more of an upper hand over TDO??

And to the comment about Disney being obsessed with Tech, def agree. They are starting to spend much more money on queue's and post shows etc than what they are putting into the actual attractions themselves.

I have to disagree. Expedition Everest is now one of the most state of the art roller coasters in operation. Mission Space is a state of the art ride that you wont find anywhere else. Both have amazing queues. What other rides have they built that they havent put "effort" into the actual ride? All they have been doing lately is improving the queues and the ride itself. They dont have a need to add new rides other then the expansion. They have the best park world wide, most attendance world wide, all they need to do is continue focusing on improving the rides as they age and adding a ride every now and then.

That's because the people in charge wanted their parks to be the best possible for bragging rights and simply because they could. There was once a real desire to constantly improve the parks and blow people away with the latest, greatest attractions. Of course they wanted to make money, but management believed in the "if you build it, they will come" strategy. Now they focus on discounting the inflated prices to attract guests.

EPCOT Center never would have been built in today's executive climate.

But they're obsessed with tech. You can pull up wait times on your phone! Yaaaaaaay.

Tirian ... still fighting the good fight I see.:)

So true ... about tech. That's gives the Weatherman a bulge. And having Steve Jobs (a giant iPhone that can't be used as a phone ... really! that's the iPad fanbois!) around makes matters worse.

Technology by itself is cold and meaningless. It would be like watching an AA from Pirates without any skin and costuming. Tech PLUS story PLUS quality/$$$ is what separates great attractions and what used to separate Disney from the pack.

Now, Disney is about what I call gimmick tech. Things like what RFID is/will bring.

There's a huge difference from a virtual porthole on a cruise ship or a 'magic mirror' as that's what will be coming to Disney resorts, and APPS you can use while pushing your double wide stroller into my ankles at the MK and an attraction that immerses guests completely into another place ... something that sure appears to be happening at IOA right now.

Anyway ... I'm going back into hiding or my favorite Laughing Place, but thought I'd chime in here.

That's what She Said

Michael Scott's Top Ten Springsteen songs include three Huey Lewis & the News songs, Tracy Chapman-Fast Car and Short People. :ROFLOL:

Please.... EVerest was a very good designon paper, but is being run into the ground with effects not working as envisaged, too many cars being run too often affecting show, and a lacklustre approach to fixing the issues. it is one thing when you have an effect that dosn`t work as planned but have another 77 to fill the void (Imagination `83) but when over half the effects - incluing the finale - don`t work or can`t be maintained... don`t get me started.

I`d have taken half of the M:S preshow to have something - anything - to hide the fact it`s one big shed on the exit walk.

The plussing has begun, but it`s only a small fraction of what needs to be done.

State of the art effect driven coaster? Go see The Mummy down the road. Not perfect but a stunning example of design and execution.

You do realize that Everest is a first of its kind? First to have a "silenced" chain lift, first to stop you in mid ride twice to change directions to different tracks, first to be highly themed, first to use state of the art animatronics. You cant expect everything to be working 100% from the get go when your the first to do something.

I rode Mummy and wasnt very impressed. Probably because I had to keep from hitting my head due to it being a premier coaster. Both coasters are state of the art but Everest gets the edge with so many firsts.

Just a random thought, does anyone actually know why Disney asked Vekoma to design a new anti-rollback system so that it doesnt create the clicking sound as you go up the lift when they could have just put in a magnetic lift that could slowly lift the train up the track and put in magnetic brakes. Could save them alot of operational costs.

I agree Everest is probably the best rollar coaster I've ever seen. The theming is so detailed. When you go through the mountain backwards I thought I was really in the mountain. There's so much to see as you go around the mountain, the rocks and trees and occasionally the Yeti. I don't know why people get so worked up about the non-moving Yeti. I just tell my friends he's meditating or trying to be camoflauged and that's why he's not moving. Makes sense and it doesn't destroy the illusion. Anyway, i cant imagined a rollar coaster having more to look at. Everest proves again that Disney is the best!!! :sohappy::sohappy:

Everest gets the edge, but Mummy is still really advanced, and Imotep's B mode is still realistic with there being a projection... and the fire is really nice in the false station...

I guess vekoma had designed the silent lift system and wanted disney to try them out...
