Quiet 40th Anniversary

It totally blows my mind that WDW would take that approach for celebrating (or not celebrating) the 40th anniversary....But then I remember what happened with Epcot's 25th anniversary.

They could have made the 40th a huge deal and a promotion, like The Year of a Million Dreams, and had it run for about two years to milk it for all it was worth. If they took that approach of making the 40th a 2 year long promotion, they could have made it a huge celebration that would culminate with the opening of the FLE.

Or better yet, they could have actually put some serious planning into all of this and started the FLE earlier to have it ready to go for the beginning of the 40th.....

Just a random thought, does anyone actually know why Disney asked Vekoma to design a new anti-rollback system so that it doesnt create the clicking sound as you go up the lift when they could have just put in a magnetic lift that could slowly lift the train up the track and put in magnetic brakes. Could save them alot of operational costs.

They asked it to be designed that way because a real train would not make that noise going up a hill. It's part of the theming.

That's what he said...

Jan - "Michael!"
Michael - "Oh, you're just upset that you didn't think of it first."

OK, now on to the 40th anniversary celecbration. Why don't they have a celebration atleast on par with Disneyland? I had been thinking that they didn't do anniversary's quite as large at Disney World for some time now, but with never having visited Disneyland, I wasn't sure whether or not those thoughts were true.

I know that Disneyland was Walt's first brainchild (as far as parks go), but I think that Disney World would be where they would want to go above and beyond since it was Walt's ideal theme park, devoid of all the outside business that sprung up around Disneyland after it was opened.

Now I'm a little dissapointed because I am planning a trip for October 23rd to November 4th so that we could be there at the exact 40th anniversary date. Well, either way, it'll be a great trip.

Also, I agree with "thehowiet." It would have made a lot more sense to have Fantasyland back up at full capacity by the 40th anniversary.

well unfortunately the actual 40th anniversary is October 1 so you're going to miss it but the good news is you'll be arriving on the 88th anniversary of the Walt Disney Company.

Everest gets the edge, but Mummy is still really advanced, and Imotep's B mode is still realistic with there being a projection... and the fire is really nice in the false station...

I guess vekoma had designed the silent lift system and wanted disney to try them out...

I knew that they asked them to do that but Magnetic lifts and brakes are always reliable, create practically almost no wear on the trains and the tracks where theres brakes, and creates a smooth and silent lift/brake. Plus they work even in bad weather where friction brakes and fin brakes can sometimes not stop as they can in dry weather, and would stop you if the power went out I believe. A perfect example of this is Rock N' Roller Coaster. Same technology, and same manufacturer.

I would agree the Mummy is advanced also but nice advances have been made from its design period to the build of Everest. Plus the typically Disney quality and theme work that goes into it.

A previous issue of Disney Twenty-Three Magazine hinted at WDW's 40th anniversary celebration in a major article about the FLE.
