And also have a system that maintains a minimum and maximum speed, in a range that each set of Ride Vehicles can't interfere with each other. Basically, you can only get so far ahead or behind before the computer either slows you down, or speeds the other up. That is also how it would/could work for empty cars.I think a busbar ride system would work!
I think it’s a good call having a speed range for vehicles so that there isn’t big separation. And also have a system that maintains a minimum and maximum speed, in a range that each set of Ride Vehicles can't interfere with each other. Taking out the speedway definitely makes sense here. That’s a lot of space that can be used quite effectively for this attraction!Would the Speedway be a possible template for a location? - given the requirement for an E-ticket in the prompt, the Speedway would account for capacity (which would be a question) given the large land area it would have enough. It would also provide a template for the speed up/slow down motion. Computerization of the set range between cars (rather than bumpers) could also add better 'Tron' esque aesthetics. Lastly, a redo of the speedway location then offers us a prime spot rather than having to try and squeeze this in elsewhere.
I am all for a busbar system and I think keeping the track layout of the speedway makes sense! I think that would definitely be a possibility as there are already paired tracks!I really don't want to step into 'team leader' mode - I'm actively trying to avoid that...that being said I'm going to do a 180 and go into it now with 3 days left haha
As visibly gorgeous as the other team's project appears to be - we should pretend as if that doesn't exist. Just make the best project for us.
To do that - we need to first come together on a theme. Tron? In my view, it might be easiest to just stick with Tron, unless we can quickly come up with something that we all agree on. Otherwise we might just spin our wheels until its too late to do anything in terms of concept art/'presentation' points to compete.
Next we seem to agree on the Speedway location so moving past that --
If we use a busbar would there be any point to rip up the speedway or just use the pre-existing track? I don't see a reason to tear it up to add in a busbar when we could probably convert the pre-existing track. If we are tearing it up we might as well add in another ride system -- so that is something we should come to terms with. Are we keeping the same configuration or something else?
Once we have those down -- there are 4 of us active (hope you feel better Disney Dad - the flu is going around here too) so hopefully we can crank out some of these components over the weekend. The Write-Ups are more important than the concept art, that being said, from the artwork I think a map and ride vehicle image are most important given the project itself.
Write-Ups
Introduction - how are we answering the requirements of the prompt? etc.
Queue Description - (1998ish queue so little to no interactivity, and no Fastpass line yet, it hasn't been invented)
The Gameplay Dynamic - What's the gameplay competitive nature of the attraction in simple terms?
Ride Schematics - 'Tech Talk' - how does this attraction work? two paragraphs max
Ride Through - Describing a sample run through of the attraction.
Possible Gift Shop (if necessary)
Conclusion - summation of experience tying back to why it fits.
Artwork
Attraction Poster
Location Map
Entrance Facade
Queue
Ride Vehicles
Ride Through Map (blueprint or sketch)
The Ride Through itself might be told better through a visual narrative rather than text-based -- so 2-4 images of the cars in action, speeding up/slowing down, images of people using the gameplay controls, etc
I am still all in on this! That being said, I have also become pretty sick the past couple days so with school on top of that, I've kind of slowed down on here. I'm really hoping I'm feeling better tomorrow as by then we should have decided if we are doing Tron or an original story and from that I will definitely help power through the last two days before it is due!Hey gang, you still up for trying this? Didn't realize it wasn't due til Sunday night. I'm still hurting from this flu but think we can still put out something solid. Space put a great shotlist of some bare minimums for the submission.
Depending on when a final idea gets formalized I can maybe work on the attraction poster and see how much more sleep I need for other items. I'll try and pop in frequently today/Tomorrow and see how it's going.

I love it! I can definitely do some of the write ups for this!View attachment 257557
The wayback feature on Google Earth offered a color photo from 2002 (after that it went back to black and white but essentially this is how the park looked minus the skyway which was going away in '99 anyway.)

While I'd personally prefer something original -- I can't think of anything that would fit the requirements, and we're short on time to create it. It would be nice, but Tron can be done in a way that isn't a 'book report' of the film - it's the universe that the attraction is based on, not the specific plot/characters.
Plus, the visuals blend in with the mechanical and colorful 'New Tomorrowland' of 1994.

A rough draft - but this could be the basic layout
For a Tron interactive ride to work it would need to be indoors so you can have the visuals on the walls and in dark rooms with neon lights. Given that the speedway is outdoors and underneath the peoplemover, rather than enclose it all -- I tore it up. New (large E-ticket) show building in the footprint of the Speedway, but with enough room north for a potential Fantasyland expansion of 1-2 dark rides in the future. It also keeps in tact the pathway from Tomorrowland to Toontown
The building itself blends in with the mechanical futuristic vibe, with the Tron colors.
Inside, we have the busbar system. Even looking at the 1982 Tron (I haven't seen that film in forever) but the 'grid' lines could essentially glow as a more 'high-tech' busbar system.
Similar to the speedway, you have a driver and a gunner. and you run side by side up and down a 50 foot tall show building with multiple stacked levels, giving a variety of visuals, with the goal of defeating your opponent using the gameplay descriptions @Magic Feather described.

Thoughts? If we agree on this general premise by tonight, we can divide up the work and go from there. I can handle most of the concept art and queue if others can handle some of the write ups.
Love the poster!! I can do the write up for the intro, gift shop, facade, and conclusion!!Just a quick and throwaway attraction poster to give the potential ride additional context.

Again, we should try and come together as soon as we can to finalize either this direction and start taking roles, or pitch an original story and divide from there.
Either way we should do this soon so we are all on the same page and understand our roles as the weekend approaches. Thanks.
Another sample aesthetic piece to fit the 80s vibe of the original Tron. A potential map showing the two dueling lightcycle paths.

Also since we can't use Daft Punk as the soundtrack, I found a playlist of 80s electronic music that after listening to it for a minute or so would sound really cool alongside as background music as you travel through the grid
