When the mine train is completed im sure the effect will work better but it looks like you are leaving the castle courtyard and entering the enchanted forest as they call it.

The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is not some magic elixir that will suddenly fix New Fantasyland. It won't change that big dead space nor will it change the Swiss cheese nature of the walls that undermines the concept of a portal nor will it change the disjointed aesthetic of the Castle Courtyard.

I said it will help the illusion of entering a forest the rest of the problems you mentioned I didn't direct anything at. If you don't like the aesthetic of the castle walls thats your own opinion which you are certainly entitled to, just like I am entitled to think as a portal they work quite well. As for the castle courtyard it always kinda has been disjointed hasn't it? Flying elephant circus next to a submarine voyage right behind a carousel from new jersey behind a castle inspired by french architecture doesn't really scream cohesive theming in my book, yet people still loved it huh?

In order to create a portal, there needs to be a real transition. Just having a big open space doesn't do that. And I am not sure where you're seeing a great deal of fondness for Fantasyland's original aesthetic.

The transition itself is you are leaving the castle courtyard with the stone walls ending and the forest beginning its hard to create that when you have giant walls everywhere and a construction site to your right at the very entrance of the land. After all this area is the "enchanted forest" and with the mine train will come an abundance of trees really giving you the feeling that you are leaving the old castle courtyard and entering the forest. Whether you want to admit it or not the mine train will help this land out greatly, will it fix all of NFL problems of course not that's not what I'm arguing, but it will help a great deal with theming and giving guests more to do. And the fondness I have for the old fantasyland is the same one many people do. While the aesthetics may be dated now when they opened they were something people marveled at and today still do.That's the last i'm going to say about it considering this is a thread meant for PFTH.

The whole wall is undermined by their lack of bounding two distinct places. Even with the construct ongoing, it's being different should help be legible. That there are aesthetics that bleed across the line of the wall undermines its power as a portal. It's three different things happening at once, a transition on the edges, a plaza space and a portal. They can all work right on top of each other.

One Little Spark...
The Castle Walls are one of the worst ideas. It's just a big open dead space. No fountains or flowers or even places to sit down. It's just dead space.

They should rope it off as stroller parking for the stroller farms that tend to grow inbetween Peter Pan and Small World! <kidding...sortof>

Not a fan boy of this project but I don't see any of the problems you've mentioned. FLE was a nice little addition...I don't think it needed "fixing". Sure, there are always bigger and better ideas, but what was built served it's purpose...IMO. The castle walls is one of the best parts.

If anything, I wish the OLD fantasyland would get reworked to be as good as the new part.

Hmm. No real change to the exterior there. Put up the sign and some flags and it looks like it's done.

Let's hope they've gone totally gonzo on the interior.

They didn't, sadly. The budget was slashed and you will now just be standing in roped off lines rather than having the interactive stain glass windows and the cushioned princess benches to sit on and enjoy.

Uh, oh.

Perhaps that's why there hasn't been a big publicity push on this new offering yet? Well, at least there's still the Mine Train.

It serves its purpose poorly. The purpose was to increase capacity and it consumes more space than necessary to achieve that end.

D23? That was pretty big. I mean, it's Fantsyland. Not sure what you want to go there other than dark rides and meet and greets...like I said, things can always, always be better. Always. But what was built is a very nice addition and will be so for decades and decades to come.

I think we all know that the budget was cut so many times that in the end it was hard to play up the finished product. I think if Pixie Hollow was built it might have been a different story. Perhaps.

Actually I don't know, that bit of "new" concept art was actually released during its initial showing to the public so maybe they are going to keep the nice stain glassed pieces/area's after all, here the imagineer is talking about it and mentions both the stained glass area and the waiting area with the portraits and lines!

talking about both places^

here the "New" concept art is being shown all the way back in 2012 when staggs was talking about the project in the philarmagic. Good to know I was wrong and that they are going to keep that really nice que area with the stain glass windows :>

In your opinion. Even if the walls were moved forward or eliminated all together it wouldn't matter. There would not be any more room for another attraction there. And FLE did increase capacity. Just as much as they had originally planned. But I don't think that was the point or intention. Meet and Greets are becoming more and more a part of the fold with Disney Parks wether we like it or not. They are as popular as the classic E-tickets. So much that random meet and greets are almost impossible to control. Disney saw that shift and addressed it with FLE. FLE was never intended to be for the fanboys. It was intended for the little boys and little girls. You know, the billion dollar industry they cater to? I think they achieved their goal with FLE.

Thanks for sharing! I am not huge on meet and greets but I am hoping this one will be super nice since it will be rather permanent.

I agree hopefully they really make this one nice, especially since it took over some nice attraction real estate.

I couldn't agree more, people keep complaining of the "dead space" probably have never been there when the park is busy and that "Dead space" is very much alive with a lot of people flowing in and out.
