Priciest Place on Earth

I know it is a long time ago, but in the late 90's and early 2000's, a 5-day trip to all Disney Parks, hotel, and flight was under $1,000 per person.

Did I hear that right? No courtesy shuttle from the airport to your disney hotel? That is insane crazy. How do you get to your hotel?

Yup, a lot of theme parks do this.
When they started the resorting parking fee, we just used our timeshare options in Orlando instead. Have not stayed on site since.

I gather the parking fee was a chapek fee, because DL has been doing it for years.
The timeshare my aunt had was at Orange Lake country club in Kissimmee. It was a spacious 3 bed 2 bath and I think one of the largest swimming pools I have ever seen. It was just a few minutes away from DAK. There are many options outside WDW to stay but areas outside some of these resorts are a little dicey at night. ( ie Kissimmee )

I believe free parking was in affect up until 2018 not a long long time ago
I think the parking upcharge in parks parking is when they went to preferred parking which is the lot closest to the main entrance. I think it’s more than $15 more than regular park parking. Resorts which had free parking for many many years went to paid parking in 2018.

Yes - We have stayed there numerous time.
Also The Sheraton Vistana, and Hilton Park Solei.
2-3 bedrooms and full kitchens - washer and dryer.
We are not missing WDW property one bit.

Once they started charging guests to park their cars - that is when we stopped staying on property.

I always thought it was a very greedy move- A lot of the new regime is based on greed and not the equivalent service to back it up.
WDW has always been a premium product - but at least they provided a premium service to back up their prices. Now, they are a shell of their former company resting on their laurels. Nickel and diming people for services that were once free.

According to data Testa compiled from archived price-tracking sites and guidebooks, the nightly price of the cheapest room at Disney World's Pop Century Resort rose from $95 in 2013 to $168 this year (2022). That $73 difference is a 77 percent increase, more than three times the rise in inflation over that span.
Can't say Im surprised.
Now that it has Skyliner though, some folks may call it "Paying more for more", rather than, "Paying more for less."

SwwwGlad to see you are able to cut costs! Good for you guys!

Sure - - - I suppose.
However.....
Don't forget about - - -
-reduced staff - Longer ride que's - reduced ride capacity.
-reduced cleaning staff - dirty parks
-non existent ride maintenance
-Paying for what was once free - fastpasses
-No nighttime parades
-No magic express from the airport

All for a higher gate/daily fee and Genie+/LL fee's.
So I see it a little differently.

I'm sure skyliner saves a bit of time for those at specific reports.
Not really a deal breaker for all the extra cost, in my book.

@Jrb1979 I just received an email offer from Cedar Point for Annual Passes. Although CP isn’t open year round, the prices are $99, $135, $235. If I were closer to it like you, I’d definitely purchase one. Although CP and WDW are 2 distinctly different experiences, there’s certainly value in the CP passes if you live close to it. We enjoyed staying at the Breakers Hotel right there on property.
Remember that CP is part of Cedar Fair, and they also own Kings Island, Kings Dominion, Canada's Wonderland, Dorney Park, Michigan's Adventure, CaroWinds, Knott's Berry Farm, and Great America in San Jose. So if you're close to one of those, a Platinum pass with Cedar Fair might work out for you.

Ride ques aren't longer, as long as you can afford to pay for that benefit.

Current Genie+ and LL system are not the same as the old fastpass system, so claiming that you are paying for something now that was once free demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of these things.

Reduced staff. Say hello to every business in the country.

Dirty parks. Bwahahahahaha!

My first visit was the MK in 1972 parking cost 50 cents (has increased ever since)I don't believe there ever was free parking at the parks. If you stayed on site there was free parking at the parks and still is. You pay to park at the resort
I must be mistaken.....I don't remember paying for parking in the mid 80's.
We almost always stayed on WDW grounds then.

Adjusting for inflation we are looking at around $3.46
So $25 now is a very nice and greedy cash cow, just to park your car.

If you stayed on property you wouldn’t have paid for parking at the resort or in the parks.

Parking is still free for resort guests at the theme parks.

If you think about it though.....
Parking is no longer free because they are getting your parking money at the resort instead of the gate.
Actually they are potentially getting more money, if you don't go to a park every day.
We would take days off to chill, they would still be collecting money on our off park days.

This is one of the big reasons why we refused to ever stay on grounds, again.
Of course there are other reasons as well....
