Prices for a family of four

110% Agreed. Problem is a lot of people don’t want to work to play. They think Disney owes them a cheap vacation. We work to play. And we play hard. That’s the way it is. It’s life. I pull down lots of overtime for our trips. Wouldn’t want it any other way.

What's interesting to me is that (and this is just my view) it seems to be a Disney phenomenon. Some how this image of Disney as a benevolent great uncle that wanted everyone to be able to afford a vacation there wa formed and it stuck.
Most other places if a person can't afford it, there is no outcry. You just move on but people take it personally if ticket or room prices rise

Agreed, I have rented some houses that provided beach badges, it depends on the owner. I think the season beach tag is only $25 in Ocean City, NJ. Some owners buy one set, and then if they aren't returned, the rest of the renters for the year are SOL.

The ones I have rented usually count the beach tags. and if any are missing you get charged.

This right here nailed it on the head. Not sure why so many people feel entitled to certain things....a cheap Disney vacation being one of them...

Read and article if you go budget all the way, least expensive "All Stars Resort", no sit down meals, you will spend on average $4000.00 Canadian, and if you upscale get a dining package, moderate hotels it can cost up to $10,000 Canadian for a Disney Vacation.

Weird that so many people have that much disposable income.
Nobody has a problem with the price of a Disney Vacation ?
We have a serious problem with it. The prices overall at WDW have escalated sharply over the last several years We went from 7-8 days every year to 5-6 days every other year to not going at all since 2015. It's a totally financial decision. When the totally cost of 6 days, including air fare for 5 topped $12,000 we had to say no more. We would all love to go back, but have no interest in doing WDW "budget all the way" at this stage in our lives.

Is that a deluxe resort? I couldn't spend 12,000 at disney if i tried for 4 of us. We do a moderate resort at most...Maybe 1 sit down meal. A few shirts and all. We have never gone over 5000 and thats just from 2017. We didDLR in 18 Airfare fromOhio is like 200 a person round trip...

I always assumed canadiens used......pecos? I mean they aren't even a real country right?

Nah, the reason that they have cheap AP's has nothing to do with profitability (directly at least). Its all political. They offer the incredibly generous in-state resident AP's as a gesture to get the Florida legislature on their side. They figure that the autonomy and freedoms that they enjoy (as well as the gifts that Florida gives them) outweigh the money that they lose by selling the dirt cheap APs.

If Disney wants to keep hawking hotels, maybe they could try to beef up the non-park activities and excursions to help justify 7-14 night stays without guests having to go to parks every day.
Political!? Huh? Oiy...

I love camping too, but it's not the same thing. You're paying for a spot in the forest to sleep on the ground, you're not paying for 24/7 entertainment.
My family hates camping. My husband says he is not going to spend money to feel homeless. We have trees in our backyard, he'll go sit outside and look at them. Lol. We have year round staycations. We go on vacations to see things, and do things. Your point is spot on!!

Nonsense, sheer nonsense!

You just implied a Disney vacation supplies around the clock entertainment.
Parks have limited operating hours.
Even resort pools close at 10 pm.

What are you talking about?!
Perhaps you have not factored in the amount of sleep needed to recuperate each night after the 10 miles of walking one does most days at DW. An excellent nights sleep (esp. for those of us with insomnia) cannot otherwise be had without the constant entertainment. Hence, completing the 24/7 model. It includes the best sleep of your life.

I realize this thread is all about the cost of Disney - but how many families are paying attention to the cost? By that, I mean family members. In my family, it's just me. No one else pays attention or cares. All that matters is: are they interested in going where I'm trying to sell them? Unless it's Disney, the answer is no. I'm not paying to go somewhere no one wants to go. We've been loads of other places, my family gets bored. They were bored in Hawaii, in Paris (?!), in Mazatlan, etc. Ok, so they kind of thought it was fun to look for the Loch Ness monster in Drumnadrochit, but that got old, too. They'd rather stay home. So, hey! We're off to DW again! It IS their childhood, I guess, and we are all Disney fans, so we just keep saving our money until we have enough for the next trip. They like the old stuff (nostalgia), they like the new stuff ('cause new!). The trips might get a little longer in between if something comes up, but then I always plan ANY vacation with a "if we can go" mentality. And I always said that to the boys growing up, due to an on the job accident my DH had years ago when the boys were super tiny. So they grew up with "might" for every trip, if everything goes as planned. Weird that they never get bored in DW, as many times as they've been.

Think about it this way:

At $X,000 per Disney trip, your family can afford to take one two Disney trips every four years. If you can get the cost down to $Y,000 per Disney trip, your family can take three Disney trips every four years. So 50% more magic and super happy fun times (or maybe you have to go to Thailand for that). But the "cheaper the trip, the more you can take it" might be a way to motivate you to be thrifty. Personally, I would never save up for a vacation. I travel all the trip, and I'm always booking cheap flights, staying at Airbnbs, and trying to cut costs. I'd rather just be traveling.

And as I've mentioned on here before, I'm a local. I have a stupid cheap AP, and cherrypick my days.

well we are staying at pop 7 nights, 6 day hoppers, meal plan and photo pass, supposedly also a room discount $4800 for 2 adults and a 10 year old. That's not including airfare.
Wow. We're paying less than that for 7 nights, 6 day hopper and we're staying 2 nights at a moderate and then 5 nights on rented DVC points. I guess timing is probably the difference.

I get what you're saying about the inflation vs. salary though. I think a lot of companies are sticking to a 3% flat increase regardless.
