Ill agree that an attraction can be viewed from an Artistic viewpoint. But it is more of Art mixed with technology that creates the wow factor. No, I'm not sure what Walt would have wanted but I am positive that Walt was constantly moving ahead and improving things. I'm truly not trying to argue with you, I understand that you'll miss it and I'm sorry b/c that does suck. I know if I loved something like that, I'd be devastated and wouldn't want anyone telling me I was wrong. I'm not trying to do that, but Disney does have to appeal to a wider audience in order to continue to create revenue (sad but true) and in order for the other things you love about Disney to continue, they sometimes have to make tough decisions. Don't let it change your image of WDW b/c this is closing...just give the new stuff a chance and try to appreciate it for the effort that is going into it.

To those in the know: Is it established that the mine car ride will basically tell the same story as SWSA?

It seems silly to me to remove the dark ride just because a ride with the same character is going in, considering that DL has no problem with multiple Dumbo and Alice rides in the same land...but if the stories would be pretty much the same, then it makes more sense.

I don't doubt that is true for you and probably most people on here. It isn't really true for me. Heck, many of my favorite attractions on WDW property, like the Affection Section contact yard at Animal Kingdom and the Horse Cars at the Magic Kingdom, have nothing whatsoever to do with technology! I honestly don't notice technology. When I ride a ride like Snow White, I am honestly not thinking about or critiquing the technology being used. I am totally and completely caught up in the STORY!

Another example is, from a thrills point of view, my favorite roller coasters are wooden roller coasters. I like the way they feel, the aggressive ride they give, and the fact that they are based more on drops and airtime rather than loops. Yet, wooden coasters are considered "old" tech compared to steelies.

I'm truly not trying to argue with you, I understand that you'll miss it and I'm sorry b/c that does suck. Thank you for being understanding and sympathetic to my views without making it personal.

I'm sure I'll try the changes in due time, just like I eventually came back to the WDW fold after the mid/late 90's bloodbath where SEVERAL of my favorites in both Magic Kingdom and Epcot were methodically and systematically purged in a VERY short timeframe of a few years (20 K Leagues, Toad, original Tiki Room, Kitchen Kabaret, original Imagination ride, Horizons, World Of Motion, etc)

However, I would be an "all-talk, no-action" hypocrite if I didn't vote with my wallet, so I'll be taking at least a couple years off from WDW as soon as Toontown and Snow White are gone and my annual pass expires. It won't be like I'll be sitting around moping, though. I'll still keep my Busch Gardens/Sea World pass active, and I plan on giving a Uni/Islands Of Adventure Annual Pass a try, as I've never had one before. The thing about Orlando is, if one chain does something you dislike, there are always other choices!

More importantly, I'll get my Disney fix by taking a long-awaited return trip to Disneyland! I've been wanting to do this for a LONG time anyway, and with the DCA improvements scheduled to be opening around the same time (or shortly after) the WDW Fantasyland/Toontown area is being changed, 2012 and/or 2013 seem like the perfect time for me to hit DL!

Their Magic Kingdom-style park is honestly a lot more appealing to me than WDW's, and they have a lot of Classics there that are missing in Florida that I can't wait to ride/see again!

Well David..one thing I'm glad you realize is that when you're unhappy with something you aren't forced to continue and "suffer" through something. It's the attitude I sometimes see on here that somehow Disney "owes" something b/c we're such a big fan. Yeah, I think they should appeal to us and present excellence like they always have but its also true..u can take your money elsewhere. Good thing to know though that you'll be back. I think you'll be impressed upon your return.

NEWSFLASH Disney, nobody wants to see a bunch of strangers faces plastered all over the castle. What a horrible gimmick...

Once again, you have really aloud your negativity to cloud your vision. I almost like this Castle show as much as FLE. Almost. I am so sorry you can't enjoy this because it is really magical. Love you and your posts but you have been off the mark a lot lately.

I do have to ask though...I am sure there were attractions in the past that you probably didnt care for that are no longer there though right? Im sure there are quite a few ppl that maybe were sad to see those go.

clearly maf doesn't speak for the majority on this one. As a person who complains alot about the moves Disney makes, I cant say anything bad about this one. Disney finally did something right. This is a hit and will stick around for along time.

I see your point, in a way, but the multiple attractions you speak of are flat rides with no real story elements. Neither Dumbo nor Casey Jr. have a story and not much in common with each other. And the Teacups don't have much to do with the Alice dark ride other than some details in theming.

If the mine train was to be a simple kiddie coaster through the Dwarfs diamond mine, with no other story elements, then they could co-exist. I wouldn't want it to be that limited in scale. Also, the existing ride doesn't draw well, though it's my personal favorite in Fantasyland. I too wish they could co-exist. They could have always designed a ride for that space with another theme??? Let's hope we get a new dark ride in the SWSA building in the future. Albeit, the distant future.

Excellent point, and I agree. If it tells the same story, it would be easier to accept or even prefer, especially if it retains the Happily Ever After Scene. But whenever someone refers to it as the "Snow White coaster", Raven corrects them and says the Dwarfs. And I believe there was another post around here somewhere where he suggested the beloved forest animals wouldn't be in the ride. Which makes me think it might just focus on the Dwarfs and not really tell the full story of SW like the ride does. I'd love to be proven wrong, though. But I am a little concerned that the gentler elements of the Snow White story may be eliminated in an attempt to make Fantasyland more "masculine" - which is why this ride is being added in the first place. Look how they sadly took the cute Gus and Jaq figures (the mice from Cinderella) off the carousel sign when they changed the name from Cinderella to Prince Charming.

Anyway, if the new coaster can approach the detailed storytelling found in the SW (or any) darkride, that would truly be a breakthrough for coasters.

Still, it would be a ride that could no longer be shared by every member of the family, in families where some members don't do coasters (even kiddie ones).

Just to weigh in on the story vs. technology vein...I'll agree that the most immersive technology is pointless without a decent yarn at its core. But with a good story in place, superior technology can definitely go a long way to pulling me into it more effectively.

I think most people would agree that a gorgeously animated motion picture is a more effective vehicle for conveying a story than a series of stick figure drawings or a puppet show. The narrative might be exactly the same, but the means of conveying it can either help or hinder the audience's immersion.

If this new ride can provide a great story in a method that helps more people forget they're riding through setpieces in a theme park (something I could personally never do on SWSA), then I think it would be an example of technology properly serving story. We'll just have to wait and see!

With the technology they can continuously change it too (if they would want to). The skins can be created in months and nearly limitless to the Imagineers imagination. Imagine 4th of July themed skins, Christmas Skins, etc. This was just the beginning of a VERY enjoyable Disney project! :sohappy:

I have to say, very impressed at the new castle show and the promise it holds for the future! Sure, the pictures may seem a bit out of place to some, but that's just a marketing campaign that will eventually end. Once it ends, we will still have this incredible projection system installed, and the possibilities for integration into Wishes and special events throughout the year are astronomical. I think back to when they started making the castle change colors at night. We now view that as the norm and I, at least, consider that to be one of the most magical effects at Disney. I can only guess what will be the norm 5 years from now.

I am a big MAF fan and I find his humor amazing at times. But how can anyone hate this? This show is Phenomenal. And I Walt at the end made me cry my eyes out! How can you hate on that?
