Ill agree that an attraction can be viewed from an Artistic viewpoint. But it is more of Art mixed with technology that creates the wow factor.
I don't doubt that is true for you and probably most people on here. It isn't really true for me. Heck, many of my favorite attractions on WDW property, like the Affection Section contact yard at Animal Kingdom and the Horse Cars at the Magic Kingdom, have nothing whatsoever to do with technology! I honestly don't notice technology. When I ride a ride like Snow White, I am honestly not thinking about or critiquing the technology being used. I am totally and completely caught up in the STORY!
Another example is, from a thrills point of view, my favorite roller coasters are wooden roller coasters. I like the way they feel, the aggressive ride they give, and the fact that they are based more on drops and airtime rather than loops. Yet, wooden coasters are considered "old" tech compared to steelies.
I'm truly not trying to argue with you, I understand that you'll miss it and I'm sorry b/c that does suck. I know if I loved something like that, I'd be devastated and wouldn't want anyone telling me I was wrong. I'm not trying to do that, but Disney does have to appeal to a wider audience in order to continue to create revenue (sad but true) and in order for the other things you love about Disney to continue, they sometimes have to make tough decisions. Don't let it change your image of WDW b/c this is closing...just give the new stuff a chance and try to appreciate it for the effort that is going into it.
Thank you for being understanding and sympathetic to my views without making it personal.
I'm sure I'll try the changes in due time, just like I eventually came back to the WDW fold after the mid/late 90's bloodbath where SEVERAL of my favorites in both Magic Kingdom and Epcot were methodically and systematically purged in a VERY short timeframe of a few years (20 K Leagues, Toad, original Tiki Room, Kitchen Kabaret, original Imagination ride, Horizons, World Of Motion, etc)
However, I would be an "all-talk, no-action" hypocrite if I didn't vote with my wallet, so I'll be taking at least a couple years off from WDW as soon as Toontown and Snow White are gone and my annual pass expires. It won't be like I'll be sitting around moping, though. I'll still keep my Busch Gardens/Sea World pass active, and I plan on giving a Uni/Islands Of Adventure Annual Pass a try, as I've never had one before. The thing about Orlando is, if one chain does something you dislike, there are always other choices!
More importantly, I'll get my Disney fix by taking a long-awaited return trip to Disneyland! I've been wanting to do this for a LONG time anyway, and with the DCA improvements scheduled to be opening around the same time (or shortly after) the WDW Fantasyland/Toontown area is being changed, 2012 and/or 2013 seem like the perfect time for me to hit DL!
Their Magic Kingdom-style park is honestly a lot more appealing to me than WDW's, and they have a lot of Classics there that are missing in Florida that I can't wait to ride/see again!
