Pre-Disney Workout?

We (my girlfriend and I) started P90X about 90 days before our trip. Were on week 7 of 12 right now ..... if it doesn't kill us it should put us in perfect shape for our trip. :D

I think the only way it might kill you is from boredom.

"And now we'll do 30 minutes of various pull-ups.....now we'll do 30 minutes of push-up variations.....and finally 30 minutes of sit-ups...."

 Boredom? Wow, you must be in incredible shape if you find P90X boring. It's one of the most intense workouts I have ever done and I am a runner, swimmer and am in the gym at least 5 days a week.

In preparing for our trips, we do several things.

Fist we purchased 10 strollers of various sizes, and invite over several small children from the neighborhood. The strollers are smacked into our ankles while we do warm up streching, thus building up our pain tolerance.
After warming up, we walk at a quick pace and have the small children dart out infront of us and suddenly stop. Thus allowing us to learn how to hurdle them, or do the teetering off balance sudden stoppee.

And

Secondly we also go to the mall 3 times a week and find the large groups that "side by side" walk at .25MPH. Using this moving road block we practice our "tactical break formation, weaving around slow person, regroup" moves.

I am trying to figure out something to help us stop the line jumper(s) (aka my friends are up there) crustations. Maybe the polish chicken dance, thus allowing up to practice throwing our arms and elbows up to enhance the line jumper(s) face with misplaced black and blue eye shadow.

I never really do anything special but it does help that we have a dog that loves to go for walks so we are usually pretty active, whether it's leading up to a trip or not.

Like a few have mentioned, once you get to WDW it's like something changes completely. We usually arrive first thing and stay as late as possible. When we get back to the hotel, the feet definitely hurt, but when you out at the parks, it feels like we could keep going and going!

I think it's a decent program for people with little to no experience or history in plyo or strength training.

The problem is it's just not sustainable. It's fine if you take what the DVD's show and expand on it, but for those that just "continue to push play" burnout and boredom are sure to follow.

Me and my kids start walking 2-3 months before our trip. I don't like feeling worn out by the middle of the day and "training" has really helped us out. My kids do complain about it but I'd say, "This is only 30 min. What are you going to do when we're at Disney? We'll be walking ALL DAY then! And it's going to be just as hot or maybe even hotter." All is right with the world though once we're at Disney. Although I also make sure to bring good shoes (Crocs for us all) and band-aids just in case. I can't wait till next year.......:animwink:

Excellent!!! Kudos to you for getting your kids to go with you. We do the same and its worked out that we actually have kept up the walking routine through the rest of the year (except when it's REALLY cold in Illinois).
You never know when a really great last minute deal might come along, and we could maybe go again with not much notice. (I dream)

I tend to walk more before a WDW trip to get ready. But living in Manhattan (NYC not Kansas), I walk most places anyway.

Yes, I've been exercising and trying to lose 5-10 pounds in the two months before our annual fall Disney trip. I have to be prepared to eat our way around the World.

No work-out beyond the normal, - I am at my ideal weight- but I do diet and lose 8 pounds prior to leaving though. Then, as "Fredtom" stated. I can eat my way around the world and around the food court at Pop Century.lol..

So, if you see the gal at Pop Century on 9/26 - 9/30 with a mickey ear snack, a greek salad, and sandwich that is me!!!lol

So I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there who does this?

My mother and I for the past two Disney trips started walking about a month or two before the trip to "get ready" for Disney. It's not that we are not physically active or don't walk much on a daily basis. We just know how MUCH walking is in store in Disney and like to "amp" up our game before we go. I started seriously walking two weeks ago and have been listening to RoE, Wishes and Fantasmic as inspiration to walk further each night.

Am I a weirdo or is there anyone else out there???:lookaroun

You aren't weird at all, I do the same thing.

About a month before I also start eating out for every meal, ordering appetizers and desserts with each sitting, and eating 3 ice cream bars per day.

I just don't want the dining plan to take me by surprise, gotta be in tip top shape for all aspects of WDW ;-)
