I worked at Space Mtn. for a year, there were areas of that building that nobody set foot in for months on end. Sure, the maintenance staff walked the track and did the necessary ride repairs, but all the corners of the physical building structure, there was never a reason or opportunity to go and clean them. So nobody did.

It is a gross, gross building there. Which is why they prefer to keep the lights off. So much/many dirt, dust, soda cans, hair weaves, dead birds (fly in through open doors and get caught), etc. Even the employee break-room there is just awful. Smells like mildew.

Oh, come on, I worked at a fast food once and I was Never allowed to leave a mess like that! CLEAN IT UP! this is inexcusable at any park!

I know that in central Pennsylvania, some cities and businesses have incinerators. Maybe Disney should invest in a waste to energy plant to help power their parks and get rid of the garbage.

A large part of the power for MK and EC is generated via waste to energy. There are two locations on property that do this, one in the north service area behind MK and one behind test track just outside the EPCOT perimeter gates.

Awesome video. wow, everything looks so close together!!

Yeah it does. Someone earlier said that they won't put their hands up on this. I agree. This is the only thrill ride in Disney, or any other park for that matter, that I won't put my hands up. Way too easy to picture a metal beam right next to you that you can't see and could, well you get the point......

I can't help but laugh when people say they don't want to put their hands up on SM. After 37 years of people visiting the attraction no one has ever lost an arm/hand/head and many of these people are much taller than you. Even Shaq has ridden and he got off unharmed. I understand it looks closer than you thought, but you're totally safe.

Mr Ed, The Horse. A Horse barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. Mr Ed will be that horse. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.

Fact:
My hands touched the ceiling of the entrance tunnel without trying. I will never put my arms up again on Space Mountain.

Those tunnel Pictures must have been taken in 1971 at 3am. I've never seen them so empty! Besides, they look completely different in color. Furthermore, it's missing the huge piles of boxes and such lying around.

Yeah, I was wondering that too. That is totally not what the utilidors look like now, and that's not what Mickey looks like now either!!

Oh, about it missing the boxes and trash, don't forget about all the randomly parked pargos!

While it may be true that nobody has LOST any body parts, that does not mean that nobody has ever hit anything. Near where I live, there is a Six Flags (Over Texas). There is a very mild wooden coaster (Judge Roy Scream). At one point, the coaster goes through the support structure, and it LOOKS like you could easily hit some of the supports. Well, I actually TRIED to reach up and hit them once and SUCCEEDED. I still have my fingers, but I will tell you that it did not feel good. To my knowledge, nobody has ever lost a body part on that ride, BUT my experience is reason enough for me to not want to reach too high on that part of the ride... While I wouldn't be worried about losing fingers on Space Mountain, I also don't think I'd want to raise my hands as far as they'd go--smacking something hard at 20 or 30MPH is not a pleasant experience...

Yea you can get in deep trouble for having cameras backstage. They also get taken or stolen as well...Mine did.

You also can get fired for showing them.

Even so. I'd prefer to not be the first. My hands will stay down.

There has never been a confirmed case of someone riding Space Mountain hitting any of their body parts against any part of the track. However, people have sustained injuries from items falling out of other cars; sneakers, glasses, etc. can fall from a car and hurt riders in another car.

I am not a small man at 6'3" and the only thing I've touched outside the cars on SM is the top of the launch tunnel.

Now, if I had fingers... That might be a different story!

That's insane. Im very surprised. When you say it's not too pretty with the lights on are you talking about stuff that people have dropped off of the ride either intentionally or not or what?

No, I mean that it's now a very old ride and it's never had a real good refurb.
