There has never been a confirmed case of someone riding Space Mountain hitting any of their body parts against any part of the track. However, people have sustained injuries from items falling out of other cars; sneakers, glasses, etc. can fall from a car and hurt riders in another car.

Well, the point isn't whether there is a "confirmed case"... when I hit my fingers on the coaster at Six Flags, I didn't go report it to anyone--I just said to myself "OUCH--that was stupid!" For all I know, there are no confirmed cases of anyone hitting anything on the Six Flags ride, either--but that doesn't mean that it hasn't happened!

Can I just ask... is falling sneakers a really big problem on that ride? I'm trying to picture how that would even happen. Hats and glasses I can understand, but what are people on that ride doing with the sneakers that would cause them to fall out of their car?

We did the Keys to the Kingdom tour a few years back. I had to laught when we went behind the Emporium at MK. It looked like the back of Target.

I was stuck on SM once. After sitting there for a while, the lights came on the ride continued. While on the ride I was looking at the ceiling . . . huge water stains on the ceiling where the roof leaks, cob webs, pretty gross! :ROFLOL:

Having worked at Space, I can tell you that you are COMPLETELY safe to keep your arms up. However there is one part of the ride that comes a little too close for comfort, towards the back of the building, right after you go back through the area with the "big gold balls." It comes pretty close, but most people are holding on since its just before/after a turn.

All this talk of hands up versus hands down has scared me! I am now doubting if I should ride with my hands up like I have before... Now seeing what it looks like, I had no idea the beams were that close.

there has been one case reported on sm

many many years ago before the lap bars were put in people use to stand up and do dumb crap like that, there is one death from a guy standing up witch caused the lap bars to be added. there are some case pre lap bars that people have had arms and wrists broken from impact of standing up and trying to grab something.

I'm not sure that is true. SM used to have log-flume style "tandem" seating in which people were secured by lap belts. That allowed couples to sit together but most of the time only one person was sitting in each large seat. The lap bars came in when they switched to the individual seats.

I'm pretty sure that no deaths have occured on SM, but there's always a chance an injury like breaking an arm or just slightly injuring yourself has happened on SM. It's pretty much unkown if any injuries like that has happened before WDW was required to report major events and injuries that have occured on property.

The one incident that I know occurred, as I was working at the time happened when a guest dropped a glass beer stein from "Zone 9," up at the top of the track, just over the lift hill. It plummeted, striking a rider in a train just before the re-entry tunnel, essentially breaking his skull open. He died en route to the hospital.

Unless your willing to get caught backstage and take them yourself as a guest and risk incarceration or get to be a WDW CM and just don't care about your job or the rules then you're not in much luck for much of a thread revival. Mickey keeps his eye out for "unmagical" things.
