Wow, I'm in shock at this news. This is great! As much as I still love the ride, the film is incredibly dated looking.

Is there any truth to what Anthony Daniels said about the new film is already made? If so, wow, how did that get by all of our scources?
who says it did? Some things can be released, other's can't.

One of my biggest beefs with the original STAR TOURS is how it doesn't really fit into the STAR WARS story. Yeah, that didn't matter much when we were younger and were happy to get *anything* new and STAR WARS-related, but the fanbase of the series is now considerably large and critical. The new attraction's creator would do well to try to keep the ride within the realm of the story's canon.

I remember quotes of Lucas saying he didn't like that either. Any changes would probably be to fit the story into the canon and not a remastering of the existing attraction.

Tenative approval for a substantial refurb to Star Tours was given several months ago. The scope of the reurb is uncertain, at least to me.
Timeframe mentioned in the article should be fairly accurate.

Been sitting on that nugget for a while. Glad it's getting out there.

This sounds a bit odd but i would love to know more about your nuggets.

But with the advances that ILM has made in computer generated images, I wonder if Mr. Daniels actually is making a film appearance, or just lending his voice to the film. They also have a CGI television series coming out next year based on the Clone Wars. Maybe a new movie with that type of animation to tie in with the new TV show?

Well, if the HP reaction -- SW revamp theory is in line -- we could see an exit from the ride where we actually meet our destination.

The guy who said the wand was coming down this summer also said that the greenlight was given for Star Tours and that it would be a major overhaul. I am goodfriends with this source and know him to be very reliable.

Also, although he doesn't know, it is my speculation that Disney gave the greenlight to this project once they got wind that Universal sealed the deal for harry potter. I bet Disney didn't annticipate Universal announcing the Harry Protter project so soon.

How good of friends are you with this "source" because the wand isn't coming down- and this has been covered. Star Tours`s update has long been in the tube, with George himself helming the project. Now that the burden of Indiana Jones IV is clearing up, Lucas is turning once again to his most famous works- Star Wars. Along with the two televisions series in the works along with the 3-D restorations of all six films, Lucas has been adeptly working on Star Tours as promised.

Disney knows that Star Wars isn't enough in the "Star Tours" form to beat an entire Harry Potter land... But what Disney has in store for MGM.... I mean Disney/Pixar Studios is their trump card. Disney didn't just give up the talks with Rowling without realizing that Universal would win the account. Plenty is in store for the Walt Disney World Resort. Jim was right in saying that the loss of Harry Potter isn't as severe as everyone thinks... (Oh, and don't expect Universal to be perfect on the upkeep of this project...)

Digital film would also point to "REAL D" being a possibility if they want to do 3D.

IF they were to do 3D, I'm sure they will use a two projector setup so that the left eye and right I are on screen simultaneously and not "REAL D". The alternating left eye/right eye that "REAL D" utilizes would probably causes massive motion sickness when combined with a motion simulator.

I will say that this source reported back in December that a restructuring of WDI was coming soon. He has friends very high up the ladder. He also told me a Toy Story ride was coming to the Studios and DCA before Al Lutz and others started talking about Midway Mania.

I do not where you guys are getting your information about the wand not coming down but I briefly spoke with one of the supervisors on the project who even gave a timeframe when the crane would be in the park.

Oh and I wouldn't say George Lucas is "helming the project" though he has to sign off on everything he is very busy with Indiana Jones IV and The Clone wars cartoon series to be the main guy overseeing the project. Last I heard, none other than Tony Baxter was helming this project. Its a similar relationship to the original Star Tours development.

Didn't get by me.
I've known for some time that a refurb had been tenatively greenlit, but was asked to sit on it for a bit. That's all I know.

Do you know of any Indiana Jones or Muppets projects coming to the Disney-Pixar Studios?

I think that is something important for everyone to understand. Like I've posted before being from Miami we would much rather take a trip to Disney then go up just to make it to IOA or US. They alone aren't worth the trip, and I know various people who feel the same. Harry Potter will come and then it will go...because of the venue (Uni) it will not have the long term attraction powers as other attractions in Disney. Mummy was supposed to be the next big thing in Universal. And what is up with that ride now?

I didn't have issue that the wand would come down, that may or may not be true. But that it was somehow 'forced' by Siemens is completely fabricated.

While I have no idea. I could see Siemens being annoyed with all this extra stuff (the LAL kiosk, the wand) grafted onto THEIR advertisment and requesting Disney remove it.

And for those of you complaing about Universal's upkeep of Harry Potter. It really doesn't matter...The Harry Potter land could be complete six flags dog**** and people will still come in droves because they want to pretend there in the world of HP. Its the same reason people still go to Disneyworld sure the maintenance and quality of attractions ain't what it used to be but people are still coming. Most people don't know/care/understand the difference between c,d,e ticket attractions and why some attractions are good and others are not. They come in with no expectations.

Harry Potter is a HUGE franchise it is not a fad. It is much bigger than Pirates of the Caribbean, The Matrix, Narnia, and in some ways, Lord of the Rings. There are very few big name franchises that can compete with the Harry Potter franchise...and one of them is Star Wars.

and here comes the other scary part for disney, once people leave WDW even for a day to see Harry Potter they are going to see there is a whole other world out there of attractions, dinning, and entertainment throughout orlando. Where they can get better accomodations, better food, etc. for much cheaper than disney's overpriced mediocricity. This is going to have a major impact on the mouse do not fool yourselves. It will be up to Disney's upper echelon of management and the true talent of WDI to find big new ways to keep people from leaving property. Pixar and pirate overlays & year of a million free churros just ain't going to cut it anymore

"I feel a great disturbance in the Force. As if millions of Disney fans suddenly cried out in joy..."

If true: :D
