I've posted before about how in the U.K it is totally different. You HAVE to have proof. From your DR, or a specialist. I am going to Chessington World of Adventures this week. I cannot be in the strong sun for long periods of time. Strong sun in my case is a UV index of 4 and over. My Dr wrote me the attached letter. Yes, I get it could be produced by a five year old with some typing knowledge but it is proof. The Dr's number is there is they wanted to call them. I'll be taking this letter to WDW next year in October, but will not use it for rides that have adequate shade. Those that do not have shade, I am hoping they would have implemented a system whereby I can go back to the ride later rather than skip the line.
My friends that have autistic children, they HAVE to take along their "Statement Letter" from the district Child Development Centre.
No reason to bring your letter. They don't need it. They don't want it. They won't take it. They can't read it.

Just stop in at Guest Services and tell them you need a GAC. Everyone who asks for it gets it.

You will still spend a good deal of time in the sun, though! Getting in and out of the parks, as well as walking through them...you are out in the sun a lot. You might want to consider coming during a cooler month, when long pants and long sleeves would be easier to wear. And you might not want to consider that! Just a heads up!

I didn't mean to imply that they were stupid! Thank you! I'm sure someone would take that wrong! :D

They aren't allowed to delve into your personal info and therefore, are not to read medical documents or letters from doctors. They will politely decline to read any documents offered. :)

Looking at the UV index, October is the best time for us anyway out of the months we can come. We want to avoid Christmas as did that last time and it was sooooooo cold, couldn't take the kids out when dark.
Walking around is ok, I'm pretty good at playing "walk in the shade", it's just standing still for a while, with long sleeves and a hat. overheating is my problem when it comes to my sun safety, but that is an entirely different conversation.
I think unless WDW (and USA in general) stop being so afraid of being sued for offending someone, it will continue to be abused. Us Brits are polite, but we speak up if we think we're having the taken out of us, and that goes for businesses too ;) The Merlin Group (which own LEGOLAND, Alton Towers and Chessington for instance) used to give away free drinks after 3pm for passholders. The first month everyone was getting drinks for themselves and their mates. Now we have to show all our passes and make sure we only have the correct number of drinks per pass. Do I hear complaints in the queue? No, because everyone thinks it was nice while they got away with it (I didn't btw do this ;) )

Free beer!

My father attended a ball game where they sold beer for five or ten cents each. It would have been free, but there was some law against free beer, so they charged a few pennies. Oh, my gosh, it was a funny few sentences! (And even a few sentences were a lot from dear old dad, a man of few words.)

The sporting organizations decided that, in retrospect, giving sports fans free beer may not have been the best idea ever. I guess nobody has done it since. :D

my solution if you can't be in the sun for long? A nice big hat.. or umbrella. There's your GAC solution.
Can't help but notice you seem to be skipping over threads then interjecting today/tonight. You jumped all over my Sun Safety in the Parks thread too. If you had read my post properly you would have seen that I have a problem with overheating as well as sun exposure. Having skin cancer gets you pretty savvy when it comes to sun protection so I'm all tooled up when it comes to that, but I need to avoid the associated risks that comes with it.

Being hot and overheating in Florida is not an uncommon problem or a disability that requires use of Fastpass lines. Disney will still give it to you! They give it to everyone who asks for one!

But the way to beat that is to drink a lot of water and take nice, long, air-conditioned breaks.

In fact, the longer lines would generally help, as it is more time in the air conditioning.

Are they legally required to allow people with diminished height syndrome onto rides with height requirements?
No. While dwarfism is considered a disability it is not reasonable to make any exceptions for rides that have height requirements. It would constitute a safety hazard which would be an unreasonable accommodation. They are only required to provide reasonable accommodations.

I'm a natural Ginger and I want my GAC.......my dermatologist said I can't be in the sun for extended periods of time.......AND load it on my Magic Band while your at it!

AND I'm going to need the entire gang of Princesses to put sun block on me each day. That is all....please accommodate my reasonable requests.

They need to limit this to extreme cases though , seriously. Many of my colleagues and I all have battled different levels of PTSD and many have serious issues with crowds......many often have young families that want to enjoy Disney.......they suck it up and deal with it. If more people took that attitude instead of the "I'm entitled and special" attitude then the world would be a better place.
