marni correct me if Im wrong, I need to go back and look at the map, but the outpost area is actually two expansion pads right? because the way the backstage water way curves and trees you really cant see the layout of it when there in person, but it would have been the Equatorial Africa pavilion along the backstage waterway, and then a space for another pavilion, then Germany, space, Italy.... is that correct?

Even a D23 announcement is no guarantee.

Oh sure, I agree, nothing is a guarantee. But it does make it much harder for them to back out. Once they've announced it to the public, they're pressured to go through with it in some form.

I can't think of one instance where Disney's backed away from a parks and resorts announcement in the past decade. I'm sure there is one but I can't think of it, which means there certainly aren't many. Hyperion Wharf is the closest I can come up with, but even that came to fruition in a different form.
Most of the time announced plans are either changed or scaled back, but never completely cancelled.

The mountain would destroy the sight lines from other countries if they scaled vertical at 100%. But it would still be awesome.

but opening without an attraction and plans to build one in "phase 2" unfortunately never happens...which is sort of why we have the EPCOT we currently have. If they would have built all the attractions planned for World Showcase we would be looking at a very different park now... Certainly one with lots of capacity that would have never had to start the festivals for attendance.
I agree with every word. Unfortunately, I also know the budget process for getting projects green lit. They don't coexist well.

With Star Wars Land (Experience? I can't remember what it's being called) on the horizon, Disney should really be plussing Epcot. DHS too, but that's moot at this point. Epcot is the closest park to DHS, and when the rides and attractions reach capacity over there during SW's opening months, the crowds are going to need to go somewhere else. Epcot needs new (or fixed) attractions ASAP, and I'm hoping that Rat might open around the same time as SW.

That's the current plan. Along with other alterations. But Rat is likely to be the only big ticket draw when SWL opens.
Huh. Was not expecting slight optimism to actually win out. Is the thinking to get two trackless rides in two parks at the same time as a consolation prize for people not riding Alcatraz? "Sorry the line for the new Star Wars ride is five hours long. Might we suggest our other new trackless ride in Epcot?"

With the GMR possibly faltering for various reasons Rat is the sure fire go to at the moment. I'm not saying GMR won't happen. I'm saying things may change and one dead cert is needed.

There is plenty of room for another country and the necessity to update/improve WS as more than just the Food and Wine place is upon Disney Management to make happen. Unfortunately, as Marni stated...The budget and $ people dont always share the same ideas for improvement that the people putting forth ideas have. Multiple plans, multiple ideas, and unfortunately, the $ people will always try to find the cheapest solution so the two eventually compromise on most cost effective with most ROI. So instead of getting the full impact of what the brilliant people with amazing ideas have, the guests get a more "simplified" version. When the first talk came about of the amount of $$$ they will spend on Epcot to reimagine it, knowing the $ put into Studios, AK, and still work to do in MK, I figured that would be tempered down and either be a typical extremely slow process done in bits and pieces as the project groups move around, or they will rush to throw a couple of below average projects together in one end of the park ( WS) and then figure out how to afford the $ for FW. I think it may be a combo of both and they eventually will spend the money, but, not on the initial projects. They will be tossed in just to pacify everyone while they finish off the $ investments in other parks, and then turn their attention to Epcot, Mainly the FW end and a new country in WS.
