You're welcome. If I recall it was more problems with politiics and sponsors and becoming too much a project that could backfire with apartheid still prevelant rather than Disney just scrapping it.
If only someone would build a whole park themed around Africa... maybe include some animals and top-flite amusement rides... But I guess we're just beating around the bush here, out in the gardens.

Cheaper than actually going there, I guess...
How do your children request where to go? Do you blindly pick a spot on the map without knowing anything about it? Or do you learn about other countries and cultures..then decide which ones you're most attracted to and would like to experience first hand and in what order of importantance.
I'm extremely curious how someone's decisions would be influenced without any prior knowledge. Maybe that's why people were so shocked to learn that there are actually alligators in Florida last year? Or maybe why we confuse Spanish and Portuguese so often here.lol
Or, maybe you have the opportunity to travel the world all year long and home school while doing so. In that case, I'm extremely envious!

Okay, this is not going to be a popular idea (especially since it should get built in DHS)... but if Disney ever wants to build an Egypt pavilion (set inside a pyramid of course), I can think of one IP they can tie into it (since all of their rides have to use an existing IP nowadays )... It rhymes with Schmindiana Bones...

This idea of only using IPs for new attractions really just sucks all of the creative energy out of the room. While I think Ratatouille is actually a pretty decent fit for the French pavilion (focuses on food in France), I worry about other pavilions. Like Aladdin in Morocco (avoiding going on that tirade today since I've talked about it in other threads). That property doesn't belong there, and I hope they don't throw a ride based on Aladdin in the back of Morocco.

I would love to see an original story with a pavilion. Like, if Brazil ever gets a spot, I would love to see a boat ride on the Amazon. However, I guess I could compromise with Disney on it; if the Cabarellos are kicked out of the Mexico pavilion, I might be okay with Jose being a narrator for the ride. There are so many creative ideas out there; I just wish Disney would start coming up with them on their own again.
An Egyptian pavilion would be a perfect excuse to make a bunkered building in the shape of a pyramid in the back and a sphinx in the front.

'Cause a live action Groot and Rocket on stage would be really hard to do, let alone the extensive make-up for the others.
Star Lord would obviously be the easiest, but I guess puppets could be used for Groot and Rocket. Gamora & Nebula could probably do stunts, but like you said, there's a lot of make-up/prosthetics in the movies.

Or just create a dance party parade with the characters a la High School Musical, instead of having the Storm Troopers march all day.

That would be a waste of paint.. do both.. so you can rehuse the prosthetics and paint in both shows.

anyway, there are some very good groot cosplays around. If they can pull a wooky, they can pull a Groot.

Indeed. The biggest argument against would be an arguable similarity to the Mexico pavilion, but I don't think it is similar enough to have that issue. If they wanted to go full ancient, they could also do a Greece pavilion housed in a Parthenon-ish temple.

Anyway, if they are using expansion pad #2, I would think they would only need to have enclosed buildings along the side of the canal. They could put a building in front and a ride show building behind it on that side and still have room for a more courtyard type setup on the side towards Germany.

I've always thought Greece made the most sense for a new pavilion, but maybe not with their financial condition now.

Well, the governments of the countries themselves have rarely been involved in Epcot Pavilions, it's more typically been companies from those countries. And while Greece's economy is in the crapper, there's surely some companies from there that could sponsor a pavilion (or parts of it) especially those that are involved in tourism and would benefit from having folks inspired to visit the country or buy products from there.

From a theme park fan prospective, an interesting question is whether Greece is too similar to other Epcot countries because there a number of "Western European" ones -- Greece is sort of a hybrid in that regard because it's often considered part of Western Europe (long time member of the EU and NATO with extensive trade relations) but based on location is also a crossroads location with Eastern Europe (old Communist countries) and the Middle East. I'd argue that Greece would be more of a variation than other European options that have been planned/considered like Spain, Switzerland or Denmark but I'd prefer something more unique to come like an actual Sub-Saharan African country, a Middle Eastern country or one from South America like Brazil or Argentina.

But, heck, I think we'd all just be happy simply to have a new country added.
