be prepared for the flames!

Let me ask you this - if you were paying a few hundred dollars per night at a deluxe resort and planned on spending a few hours at the pool, and when you went to the pool, all of the chairs were taken and the pool was very crowded, and you heard that most of the people had come over from another resort just because they wanted to swim in your pool - how would you feel?

Ugh this was not suppose to be a fight.

. I get it . I hate it when people talk about bringing the cups from last year or lying about their kids age. Or when everyone makes 7 ADR's for one day when they know they will only show up to 1.

I was trying to find on the DVC site for the pool hop rules, they did not have the dates for 2009. Here are the dates that were listed for 2008 for the DVC site:

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time because of capacity limitations. Due to expected high occupancy, Disney Vacation Club Members may not "pool hop" during the following dates*:
  • May 23 - 26, 2008
  • June 28 - July 5, 2008
  • August 29 - September 1, 2008
  • November 24 - 30, 2008
  • December 14, 2008 - January 4, 2009
*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity.

So just be midful that these dates are during holiday times.

i havent done it, but the only place i have seen that disney seems to care is the Swan and Dolphin. One time a friend and i headed over there just to check out the resort because we never stayed there, and the place was pretty packed and they had signs stating you needed to have your room key available, or something to that effect.

It is against the rules and I personally do not do it. However, I have never been in a Disney pool because I'd rather be in the parks. That said, the only place I have heard of strict enforcement is Stormalong Bay. It really comes down to a decision about obeying or breaking the rules.

That is good to know. So I take it that you can always go ahead if you want to and if you get there and they have signs up that you need a room key, I would not then.

Actually they have gone to great lengths to stop pool hopping at Stormalong Bay at the Beach club. Disney has gone as far as putting a fence around the pool and requiring resort ID to get in.

Personally, I find pool-hopping, lying about your child's age at meals, reusing the refillable mugs (which I never buy), and any other sort of dishonesty just plain tacky. When you get right down to it, it's nothing more than stealing. Sure it seems like a harmless little thing in the moment. Little white lies don't seem like a big deal in the moment either but it doesn't change the fact that they are what they are: lies. Stealing is stealing. You can't change that. Dishonesty generates bad karma. People in general should think of that more often.

Case in point, my brother and I just returned from a trip last week. We stayed at the Polynesian. On our way back to the resort one afternoon we were on the monorail with a couple ladies and a little girl dressed in swimsuits with coverups and carrying towels in a plastic shopping bag. I'm not sure these people were even Disney resort guests at all. We were under the impression they weren't. Anywhoo, we overheard them talking about using the volcano pool. When the monorail stopped one lady asked my brother if this was the Polynesian. The skies were growing dark as we disembarked. We followed behind this little group into the Great Ceremonial House and they obviously were trying to figure out which way to go to get to the ground floor and out the back doors. After much quiet discussion my brother had decided to follow them out to the pool and point them out to a lifeguard or some CM who could check-up on this bunch. It irked him that he had shelled out such big bucks for the Poly because he wanted the perks and here were these people just moseyin' right on over to take advantage. However, none of this was needed because just as we all stepped outside the back door of the GCH a huge flash of lightinging and crash of thunder sent them running back inside. We strolled on to our room with lovely smiles on our faces. I love karma. I truly do. :D

It used to not be a big deal. Seriously. As Disney has added more and more rooms on property, there are more and more people who may be coming from somewhere else on property making capacity an issue.

Some people who go years in between visits may be surprised when they return to find the rules and expectations around some of the resorts have changed as much as the scenery around State Road 535 and 192 since their last visit.

Hey Richard! We were at Beach Club last Saturday evening to eat at Beaches & Creams and waited about 45 minutes for a table. During that time I noticed that the gates with the card/key access were off the hinges entirely. I people-watched for a long time to see if there was a wristband system going on but there was not. Also, my brother attempted to "cut thru" the Stormalong Bay area thinking he could get from the building side to the lakefront side in search of a smoking area. He came back after 1/2 an hour saying he got lost in that ((expletive)) pool area and couldn't find a way out. LOL! We were Poly guests so I was surprised he was even able to walk around in there. As busy as it was last week I was sorta surprised not to see more efforts being made to keep guests only in that area.

Also, to the person who mentioned that they observed Disney making efforts to keep non-guests out of the pools at the Swan & Dolphin resorts: those are not Disney operated resorts. Any efforts at those resorts would be by the people who operate them which could explain why their signage and attempts differ from the other Disney operated resorts.

At one time pool hopping was allowed at all Disney hotels, but that is no longer the case. There are enough pools at the hotels to accommodate the guests. Now only DVC members can hop and that is only at certain times.

I have been at the pool in the Contemporary, Poly and the WL and have been asked for a room ID. I have seen an entire family told (not asked) to leave the pool at the WL because they were not staying there. These people had to get their kids out of the pool and carry them off crying because they wanted to stay...embarrassing for all involved, the family, the lifeguard and the CM who had to escort them out of the hotel.

I 100% agree.

It's worse when people try to justify it. "WDW is so expensive" "I paid for this vacation to have fun" "we clean up when we are done" "the pool was not full"

If you are going to lie/cheat/steal then at least have some shred of respect and own up to it. There are things that I have done that are of the same ilk. For example, I have taken an extra half dozen shampoos off a Mousekeeping cart. Guess what, I stole them. Period, end of story. I own up to that fact. It was dishonest and wrong and I did it. Maybe I will even do it again some time, maybe not. But I am not going to say "its OK because the room costs so much, or the stuff is so expensive in the gift shop" I guess I am an honest theif.

My kids and I have been "carded" many times at Stormalong Bay. Of course we were staying there, so it was not a problem.
