Poly, GF or split stay?

I'm lost (as usual). I'd lke to stay at the GF, but the wife is worried it's too fancy with 2 younger kids. We love the atmosphere of the Poly, but I like to try new things, and I've only done 2 nights at the GF. All things being equal, what would you do?

nice long vacation, I have never stayed at either resort so can't say for sure.

You need to ask yourself if you mind changing hotels or would you rather stay in just 1 place for the whole vacation? Can you afford it?

I know for me personally I just like the feel of the Pol, we go into the GF and feel a bit out of place really, but that's just my family.

Yeah, I know how you feel. The restaurants especially. The rooms though are beautiful, and the outer buildings are much nicer than the longhouses at the Poly. It's a tough call.

I would choose the Poly with the kids.....

Split stays require split (separate) reservations thus adding a great deal of expense to the trip.

Choose wisely...

What extra expense would their be? Disney (sadly) doesn't give you any discount for staying a certain amount of nights at one resort.

I vote for a split stay! We loved our stay at Poly but have never stayed at GF. We love to change resorts during our vacations. This summer we were at the world for 3 weeks. Our first week we stayed at Beach Club, our second week was at Contemporary, and the third week was at Boardwalk. We really enjoy the change and love to explore the different resorts! Plus, it's so easy to do!

Stayed at both, really can't go wrong (kind of like: should I take the beamer or the mercedes?) My husband felt like we were out of place at GF - felt like Poly was more for "people like us". That being said - GF is really a stunning resort. Split sounds like the best way to have it all!

Were it just two grownups, I'd definitely say split it up. I'm not sure how young your 2 young ones are. Are they able to help pack and unpack or would one parent need to distract them while the other one does all the work? Do you tend to overpack? Swithing resorts mid-trip would make sense if you're not packing for 16 days worth of vacation and were planning on doing some laundry anyway, as the day you need to switch can be the day you do the laundry and then just move it back into suitcases. But otherwise, bear in mind that at least one grownup, if not the whole family, is losing a chunk of his or her or their vacation doing the work necessary to move. Plan it out in advance so it's a minimum of fuss if you're going to do it, is all I'm saying. Probably would be easier for one parent to "babysit" at one of the parks or take the kids to breakfast whilst the other one throws everything into bags for the switch.

Excellent point.

When we were at the Yacht Club in August, it was a spur of the moment switch when we found out we could get into the Poly. One of my kids is old enough to help (9), but two of them are not (3,3). Anyways, lucky for me, my wife is a wonder at that stuff. She has me watch the kids, get the hell out of her way, and she does it. She had us packed and out of that room in under 30 minutes.

We're definitely not heavy packers. We've learned our lesson. We pack light, and do laundry a few times each trip. We always do it at night once we're done for the day, so it doesn't cut into "play time". So, packing up and moving wouldn't be an issue at all for us.

Only thing I need to decide is, which resort first?

Splitting it would be fun - two different magical moments!! But don't worry about GF being too fancy - it is actually set up very well for kids. Enjoy your trip!

I would choose to stay at the Poly for the 16nights but that is just my own personal opinion because I love it there. We have stayed at the GF before with our DD and it was not to fancy at all for kids. It def. comes off that way but it is very kid friendly. The Poly just has more of what I like, such as , Kona and O'hana's. We also like the pool better and enjoy the tropical feel of the resort.

I definitely like the tropical feel of the Poly better as well. However, the GF is maintained much more like a Deluxe Resort and you feel pampered staying there.

I have stayed at the GF twice and loved it both times. I have never stayed at the Poly but would love to one day. I would do the split stay. Have a magical time!

If switching resorts mid-trip is your idea, I'd say let your "better half" decide which resort you go to first. Of course, depending on the availability of the rooms, you may wind up having to do the opposite of what she wants. But at least you make the effort.
