Planet Hollywood unveils redesign for Disney Springs

I can say I'm much more interested in eating in a star-filled observatory than I am next to props from Twins or the remake of Red Dawn.

(note, I have no idea what props are actually in this Planet Hollywood, I've never been, I just chose two movies at random)

Typically all they have is Dr. Who stuff. Weird I know. Planet Hollywood featuring a BBC production, but that's the way it is.

Have you noticed that with a lot of the concept art they like to show an upper outdoor balcony area and then when they finish building it they decide to scrap it..Seems like it's happen a few times.

It really is strange that Planet Hollywood exists at all, since they were supposedly going out of business long ago. But even though they closed many locations, they now have a Planet Hollywood hotel/casino in Las Vegas, which started out as the Aladdin. Though the hotel may have been sold off and kept the same name.

Planet Hollywood in Vegas is a great way to stay in a recently refurbished and reasonably stylish hotel on the strip for 100 bucks a night, but be a 3 minute skybridge walk to CityCenter across the street. At CityCenter you can hang out in the drop-dead-gorgeous casinos and malls and lobbies and cocktail lounges and pretend you are staying in the $500 a night Aria or $700 a night Mandarin Oriental there. Then around 2 or 3 AM you scuttle back over the skybridge to Planet Hollywood and tuck into your $100 a night room.

Planet Hollywood the restaurant, however, has far fewer charms or reasons for being. It made sense in 1994, and I fully admit that I ate several vacation meals at various Planet Hollywood restaurants during the Clinton Administration.

But a Planet Hollywood restaurant in 2015? Really? People still eat there? They willingly go there, order food they have to pay for and eat it? It's amazing enough there's still a Planet Hollywood restaurant in daily operation in 2015, but that they actually get people to eat the food there like it's 1994 is mind blowing.

It's called Artistic License. And Imagineers are the most blatant at it.

It's why official Imagineering concept art of future projects that looks like this...

I have no idea why this is so hard to grasp for some.
Because it is a bit of nonsense since they keep hyping the story but the story is self defeating since it justifies anything and everything. A good theme is limiting in what is appropriate.

Most of the imagery released is from well after conceptual development.

So if I walk into my local observatory I should see movie memorabilia?
Ever heard of adaptive reuse?

That hotel rules. I love it. We had a unit there at the Westgate, too.

Would anyone have been excited for Epcot Center, back in 1982, if they had put a graveyard in the concept art?

Now, about enforcing the dress code from the concept art... ;)

I skipped DTD last fall because I really, really dislike construction walls, congestion and lack of "fun". This will at least blend in with the concept of a small town with shopping and dining that pretty much rolls up the sidewalks before midnight. Lived in one of those most of my life. Don't need to go to WDW to see one. I am not a fan of the new DTD and it boggles the mind how long it is taking to build.

More excited for the concept art of restaurant inside sapphire falls since it will look like to finished product than half of springs.

Aside I know they said there keeping the memorabilia but jessus who cares. Dump it and keep the theme consistent. (Rustic industrial steam punk like observatory that you eat in) lots of exposed metal beam and pipe. Lots of funky contraptions ect. Watered down it feels.

Considering how large it is, it's not taking very long to build at all. But it's the 5 years it sat idle that boggles the mind.

As an aside done right the springs appears to be turning into a world class shopping area. It was sorely needed now we just have lack luster parKS :(

If speculation is correct the Edison will have the run down power plant theme anyway. Keep Planet Hollywood full of memrobilia, I loved it when we went and it is still unique to be able to see a lot of that stuff.

This is great stuff! I enjoy eating at PH as my family ate there this past June for dinner. Everytime we have gone to DS, PH has always been crowded. This will certainly be fun to check out once all the changes are complete!

So, clear up something here...is it still run by Planet Hollywood? Or is the redesign by Disney imagineering going to also mean a takeover of the eatery
