Planet Hollywood unveils redesign for Disney Springs

I may be in the minority here but I kinda think Planet Hollywood belongs more in/at DHS (like Rainforest Café is in/at AK) and was hoping that Observatory would become a new themed restaurant at Disney Springs

either way - it looks much better
Putting Planet Hollywood at DHS wouldnt be a terrible idea, just as long as it stayed out at the entrance like rainforest is at ak to avoid spoiling the emersion

definitely dont need another commercial chain taking residence inside the parks alongside starbucks

however that would never happen, as not sure how profitable planet hollywood is right now after they closed a ton of locations

i dont know what kind of lease planet hollywood has, but maybe they ran into some kind of snag with doing a complete changeover dropping the planet hollywood name.

would be curious to find out whos paying for these renovations, my guess would be disney not planet hollywood

...not sure how profitable planet hollywood is right now after they closed a ton of locations.
Even off season it seems like there are always tons of groups, particularly Brazilian, dining there. But my understanding is that they've been through several management changes the past few years and that's usually not a sign of profitability.

This redesign looks nice. An observatory to look at stars. Hollywood stars. Get it?

But I'm surprised to learn that Planet Hollywood is still a thing, and that they still have an operating restaurant somewhere. What a fun return to 1995! If I make it to Disney Springs on my next WDW visit, I'll have to remember to pack my acid wash jeans for my big night out at Planet Hollywood. Is the food still that horrible microwaved dreck they served in the 1990's?

What's next, someone is going to tell me that Seinfeld is still on the air and that Bill Clinton is still President? o_O

EDIT: According to Wikipedia, there are three additional Planet Hollywoods still operating in America. All of them opened in 1994-1996; Las Vegas, New York, and Myrtle Beach, plus the Orlando one that opened in 1994. These are the last remaining locations out of the original 38 Planet Hollywoods that once operated in the USA in the 1990's. Who knew?!
There is still one in Niagara Falls, on the Canadian side of the border.
While I've never eaten there, we always walk through the gift shop.

I had no idea there were so many of them at one time ... and now so few.

Anyone know what happened to Jenny?

from new aerials on near map its clear she's no long there, which is no surprise considering her water has been filled in.

She was "salvaged" and put into storage. That's the nicest way to put it.

The last time I saw her she was still in the water but had enough plastic wrapped around her to make me believe she was only floating because of it. The boat was in really rough shape. If disney wants to reuse the boat they are going to have to spend a ton of money to restore it. I'm betting the boat was scrapped.

It's cool that they are making the effort to modify existing places at Downtown Disney to match the new Springs theming. The art looks very nice. I've never eaten at a Planet Hollywood, though, and it's hard to imagine I ever will eat at this one, though that's because I only get to Downtown Disney a couple of times per trip at most, and PH is never going to make my top two food choices there.

It really is strange that Planet Hollywood exists at all, since they were supposedly going out of business long ago. But even though they closed many locations, they now have a Planet Hollywood hotel/casino in Las Vegas, which started out as the Aladdin. Though the hotel may have been sold off and kept the same name.

That really is a very clever way of using the original structure and still making it something new. Somebody should get a bonus for that idea.
