Deep down I knew they were coming back, but I was secretly holding out hope I was wrong. Ha ha.

It's just that the new skin makes the building so clean and rhythmic. These vents are different sizes, are in no thoughtful pattern, and just completely kill the overall look. I'm sure most people won't care, but the designer side of me does.
I totally understand and really quite agree. It honestly puzzles me as to why they wouldn't have just extended the vents up the old exterior (hidden under the new one) and put the vents at the top of the building at least.

The amount of extra money it would have taken is a quite tiny. A couple thousand tops. This is nothing when you concider this is a multi million dollar remodel.
If it was only a couple of thousand then yes they would have done it, but building codes may not have allowed them to just add ducting to the top, that may have been too long of a run to still function without adding additional fans in the ducts. There's a myriad of reasons why, and they all come down to $ and I would have to believe that it would have been more in the 10's of thousands, which for a company that's been shuttering restaurants for years, is enough to make them cringe when one of their remaining restaurants is forced into a multi-million dollar remodel. They've already scaled it back from the originally released concept art......

the door was the main thing that was scaled back
and the tarp roof

what else was scaled back from the concept art?

There were more windows across the entire first floor, there was a balcony/lounge where the fire escape was, the entire tower where the fire escaped was had a new domed top, that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

Billboards popping up around town. Dominated by Guy Fieri's face. "Planet Hollywood" in small letters. Didn't see the word "Observatory" at all.

Why they didn't just go with "Guy's Burger Town" or something to that effect I don't know, they're clearly trying to sell this as his restaurant.

I was really hoping that observation deck was going to stay. But, the building still looks WAY better overall. Here's a comparison of the original rendering versus the current one. It looks like many things were removed from the scope including the dome on the entry, the arched windows under the planet hollywood sign, and the base to the tower (as well as the main tower itself).

If that white structure in the back to the left is the outdoor dining terrace, it looks like it may have stayed, though!
