Pizza flyer scam still happening in the Orlando area

I can get Pizza Hut, Dominos, Papa John's anywhere anytime I want (not that I normally would). Part of the joy in traveling is enjoying new and different foods. There are legitimate local pizzerias.

I'm gonna try a hijack thread. Aside from the aforementioned "Flippers" anyone know of any good local pizza places that deliver to WDW that aren't any of the national chain pizza places? Places for which you can vouch as legit? We can't warn everyone who visits WDW but we can educate each other.

As much as I rather order better pizza, on my last trip my fiancee and myself found ourselves ordering some Dominos after a long night of um.....drinking on the Boardwalk and such. I feel a bit more secure using my debit card on a company I know is legit, not a random pizza place (or scam flyer) I find.

Last December @ AKLV Kidani we had a flyer under the door when we got back to the room. A couple days later we got back to the room and called and had the pizza delivered and paid cash to the delivery guy when he got there. I was not about to give a CC or DC number out.

When I placed the order, the guy had no idea of what resort I was staying at and I had to give directions. Then the delivery guy called me twice trying to find the Kidani lobby. I am not even from Florida and I could find it no problem. Then we had to go to the lobby to get the pizza from the delivery guy.

I am not sure I would do that again, but without a counter service restaurant we wanted something easy to eat that we could have in the room while we kick back and relax.

Thanks for the heads-up and we will keep that in mind for the future.

For awesome local pizza around Disney, I recommend Flippers. Some of the best pizza I've ever had!

I second this! Excellent food - not just limited to their pizzas (I'm in love with their pesto chicken flatbread). We eat at one of the other locations fairly often - their lunch specials are great.

The offsite hotels I've stayed at in the last few years all had a note posted either in the lobby or in a noticeable spot within the room Guest services binder (usually on the page explaining how to make outside calls) warning about the scam and asked guests to order from a known pizza chain, or one of the local ones who paid to advertise in their binder. Just got back from a quick two night stay after a Cruise and for once didn't receive one flyer.

I just saw a yahoo article about the pizza delivery at wdw. The morning I was leaving - there was a pizza delivery menu that was slid through the door. I hope people do not fall for this. On a side note - I often wonder why people even order from chains like pizza hut - the pizza in the food courts at least in the values is so delicious.

There has been a lot of thread bumping going on lately...must be a slow WDW news year.

I'm surprised the city hasn't done more to actually track down the people doing this. It shouldn't be that hard, they leave a phone number on the flyer.

Oh wait, no, its Orlando. I'm not surprised.

I'm guessing the phone number goes to a pre-paid cell phone that can't be traced to a person. If not, the criminals are really stupid. By the time that they would get a warrant to grab the location the criminal is already using a new phone.

Here's the deal. I work at Loews Royal Pacific resort at Universal Orlando. We have pizza people come through and slip flyers under the doors, but these people are actually from a legit pizza place. It's only an issue at "open door" hotels. Just be very careful. Ask a few questions about the menu and food items before giving your credit card number. And if you have cash USE it and don't use your card. Just be very cautious. Like the OP look for an address as well.
Seriously? What the heck are you thinking letting ANYONE slip ANYTHING underneath your guest's room's doors? That sounds really stupid.

Because the morons that decide the operating hours of food courts and room service at Disney's resorts believe that only guests staying at the Polynesian or Grand Floridian will want Pizza at 1am. That's why. Guests at other resorts are reduced to ordering Pizza Hut or Domino's and waiting in the lobby for them to deliver it.

I got some of these fliers last trip. I think most were legit but if I was going to call one, I would check for Yelp! reviews online, or if you're rockin' it "old school", check the phone book in the room first.
Every room on Disney property has a phone book... and a Gideon bible! :)

The people who do this are often a single person (typically male, but can also be female) usually carrying a Disney merchandise bag to "blend in" usually between the hours of noon and 5pm. I had it happen while we were in our room once. I immediately opened the door, got the person's attention, and told them what they were doing was illegal and that the Walt Disney World Resort does not allow soliciting. As quick as they were to start to ignore or turn around and leave, I told them they better get off property ASAP as Disney Security is being called with a description. The guy quickly turned a corner and ran. Never saw any activity the rest of the time we were there.

:) Don't mess with my Disney.

This happened when I was down Dec. 2012 at Beach Club. I was honestly surprised someone had gotten in to the corridors with fliers, but then again I have wondered around the Disney hotels enough to know that it isn't that hard.

If it was me I would just googlemaps/mapquest/waze pizza places near me on my phone and call one of them.
