Pixie Hollow To Replace Swiss Family Treehouse?

I personally agree that if Disney feels the movie is not relevant, remake it! A re-hashing of the movie would be amazing! Imagine all the new technology to improve the shipwreck scene, as well as creating a more expansive landscape. Sounds like a slam dunk to me! :D

What i dislike is all the talk about boys versus girls areas. It is Disney and people like Disney because it is Disney. All Kids like Disney movies like POTC because it works for all kids not just boys. Pixie Hollow works for all little kids not just boys or girls. Disney is not gender specific and was never meant to be. It is about families enjoying time together Yes there are things girls or boys like more however they go to Disney for the full experience not for a girl or boy thing. My grandkids love all of Disney not just what you are calling gender specific things.

BTW as a Disney lover since the 50's when it all started the SFRT needs to have something done. Making a movie to be relevant is cost prohibitive. SFR is 60's and not remembered by few under 50. It is so irrelevant today. It needs to be changed into anything that would make people actually use it. I go to WDW a lot and seldom do I see any one in the tree. Another area that needs rethinking is the Tiki birds another irrelevant item due to it's age just like the SFRT. Sorry folks sometimes things get old and need replacing.

The Tiki Room is far from irrelevant.
As is the treehouse. The movie doesn't have to be seen to appreciate the tree house. All kids dream of a tree house. This one is the super model of tree houses. I am older than dirt and although I was around when the original movie was made, I never saw it. I still appreciate SFRT today. I don't go there as much as I used too because of a leg injury that makes the stairs a problem, but I still brave it and go on occasion.

We need time for things to happen.
Awful idea. Better idea: reboot SFR in a new film, mixing the family warmth
of the original, with today's POTC film style adventures. Bingo, instant relevance.

THIS.

My god...I'm not one to argue the girls vs. boys thing although if I had a gun to my head I would say that perhaps there has been a bit of Princess overload lately. I've got nothing against Tink and crew either but no need to close a classic attraction for the fairies..

But let's forget that...what @Atomicmickey said is pure gold. Disney and the rest of Hollywood is looking for old sh*t to rehash at every freakin' turn. They've got an amazingly easy MAJOR WIN with SFR!!! God almighty they could call it a spin off of POTC franchise and really cash in...

Wouldn't Tarzan be a better fit for adventure land then Fairies. I am also in agreement with re-making the movie and making the tree relevant again. I mean we had the country bear and haunted mansion movies. If they copied the old movie at least it would have a better story line then those two.

I'd like this. Its time for a change. Be it this. Tarzan themed or Chip & Dale themed.

I also think the Island needs to be transformed into Tortuga or some sort of Pirate Island. I can't believe that wasn't done YEARS ago. So much potential there for that.

please, no, please!!! We visit this attraction every trip..usually numerous times...day/night, before or after dole whip. If you've never done it you should give it a try. But enough of the Tink already...and I like Tink.

From the sound of it, SFT would simply become a M&G for a current franchise without a permanent home. If we stop and put on our TDO-thinking caps for a second, we quickly realize SFT is "wasted" space (i.e. there's no merch, photopass attached). Do I think this is the right thing to do? Hardly. Do I think this is a realistic decision the way TDO has been operating over the past decade? Absolutely.

We all love armchair imagineering, but we have to be realistic. A Tarzan or Jungle Book retheme is highly unlikely unless the entire area was being overhauled and it got some side budget capital thrown at it. Those films (while beloved) aren't going to get the average guest excited. TDO's main demographic (unfortunately) isn't the fan-boys and girls. Disney knows we're going to continue to come back regardless.

On a related note, I think a day will come when most opening day attractions will be gone. It's a shame but it's the natural progression of things. Walt himself said that the parks would always be in a state of flux, changing and evolving to suit the times. I hope some attractions are left unspoiled, for historic value. But let's face it: Disney under Iger has been about incorporating other brands into the Disney family and challenging common perceptions of the company and what it represents. Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars etc are becoming main attractions and Disney's new source of income with a new generation. And look at the stock price. It's working (from an economic standpoint). It's a little disheartening, but it's what Disney is becoming. We just gotta keep an open mind.

...but anyway, let's remember this is just a Blue Sky rumor.

And about the boys vs girls talk, I was just throwing my two cents in. Pixie Hollow would realistically be a more popular attraction for girls, but it doesn't have to be gender-exclusive.

Personally, I don't like attaching genders to Disney experiences (except maybe the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique), but we know for a fact this is the way TDO thinks after the FLE plans were re-done specifically for this reason. Most theme parks rely heavily on market research. A consequence of that way of thinking is business decisions are tailored to target demographics.

I do worry about that. I'd hate to see a company like Disney sacrifice being bold and creating something new for simply trying to cater to what people already like. That's the danger of solely basing decisions on market research and consumer insights. It makes companies afraid to do something a little different. Something that might not be popular at first. Instead it produces something bland, sterile and familiar. Disney has to recapture the enterprising spirit that Walt had infused into his concepts.

Via wdwthemeparks.com per Jim Hill's 03/11/2013 Unofficial Guide's Disney Dish podcast:

While the concept of Pixie Hollow doesn't exactly scream "adventure", I think few of us can argue that SFT is relevant outside of nostalgia and a rework was coming sooner or later. This would bring some balance to a stereotypically boy-centric land in the park. And as long as it's done unobtrusively, I really wouldn't mind. It's not an attraction I would visit, but I do have younger family members who would enjoy this.

That stereotypical boy-centric land balances out the girl centric-ness of everything else.
